  • I remember being a freshman in college and thinking that it would be awesome to transcribe this entire album for orchestra. At the time, I had only just finished "Foam Born", and the task seemed literally impossible. Like, fr bruh how I'm finna do this?
    After completing dozens of other transcriptions, compositions, and other musical projects, I finally got the stones to take on this absolute monster of a project. I am so happy to share it with y'all. Share it with all of your Metal/Orchestra-lovin friends!
    This album changed my life when I first heard it in 2008. It is among my favorite albums, and I consider it a masterpiece of modern progressive metal.
    Here is the link to the PDF's of all of the scores:

      Alright, if there are a hundred of you, we might be able to pull it off. I'm gonna set up a kickstarter. I've run the numbers multiple times, and (unless there is a very generous orchestra), this project will run between $5k-20k. Going set it at $10k, do a little ad placement and hope for the best. Y'all use your Reddit powers to spread the word if you want to see this happen! Should be up by July and will run through the end of the year

      @@Maremons I've tried proposing this to my orchestra. With virtual orchestras becoming popular, there might be a way to get this done. With the internet, you could probably find enough people willing to do a virtual orchestra version of this. I know I would do it!!!! You could probably round up a whole string section through Mark Wood's Rock Orchestra Camp group. Also, how much are you selling copies of the score for? I'm interested in purchasing the score anyways just so I can have fun learning the parts.

    I never used to listen to metal, but I couldn't get enough of this album the first time I stumbled across it. I listened to it "despite" the vocals, and eventually they grew on me, allowing me to discover all sorts of amazing metal bands! This album literally single-handedly opened up the metal genre to me, which has since been a HUGE part of my life.
    I'm also a classically trained pianist, and am a regular attendee of the local symphony orchestra, so what you've done here BLEW MY FREAKING MIND. I LOVE YOU! (This is really super good!)

      Same. I was so confused by the heavy riffs and the vocals didn't sit quite right with me but Ants of The Sky and White Walls won me over at the first listen ( I remember being so baffled that I listened to Ants over and over, I instantly knew I had to learn how to play like that) and then the whole thing started making sense. Learned the whole album. Damn, I'm gonna grab my guitar and relearn white walls. So satisfying to play

    Colors is my favorite album of all time and I love this version because it sort of allows me to explain what I find so beautiful about it to family members and friends who aren’t metal fans at all. If I showed them the original they’d be like “why do you like this? This is just screaming” but when I show them this they love it and it helps them understand what I hear in the original that I like so much. Thank you so much for making this!

    I'm only a few minutes in and I'm blown away. I shared it with my buddy. We both had picked it up at different Best Buys when it first came out in 2007, but neither of us had even left the parking lot. We both had just sat there and listened to it from start to finish. Lol that is awesome, man! I'm so glad it has had such a positive effect on you. Besides challenging myself, the main reason for doing this was so that other people would (hopefully) enjoy it, so I will try to think of that the next time I'm going through a bout with the black cloud.
      Also, you really don't have to buy me anything at all. (unless you get REALLY RICH and insist on get an Abasi 8-string guitar haha)
      Thanks again, bro! Now that holidays are over, I'll be posting some new transcriptions and original pieces, so I hope you enjoy those, too!

    I love hearing metal music redone as orchestra because you can experience a much greater depth of the melodies which are generally more difficult to perceive through all the heavy distortion. I am witnessing one of my all-time favorite albums through new eyes thanks to you dude. Cheers

    • @Maremons
      @Maremons  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! This is probably the best description of the reason WHY I make these transcriptions. Not everybody enjoys the sound of distorted guitar, which is a matter of preference, and I understand that. Still, everyone should be able to appreciate this album (at least, I think so), and if I can introduce even one person to this music by way of these orchestrations, I will happily spend as much time as is needed to create them. Thanks again! All the best to you! \m/

    DUDE!!!! You are an amazingly and brilliantly badass individual, this is amazing for playing drums with.
    You should start a patreon, I would totally support the cause. It would be amazing if you posted/linked to a version without percussion.
    I can't be the only drummer who practices to stringed/orchestral versions of the music I like.....no one is really doing string quartet covers, of btbam forget a full orchestral version of a entire album.
    Again....dude you're fucking amazing! subscribed and hoping you tediously fritter away a lot more time doing this and making my drumming/life better! Seriously!

    • @Maremons
      @Maremons  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I really appreciate it when other musicians enjoy playing along with music I create, whether orchestration or original. I actually remember listening to Vitamin String Quartet and wishing they had orchestrations of progressive metal. Then I thought, "... but who would be crazy enough to spend that much time on a project like that??"
      Answer: me.. lol
      You're fucking dope, bro! There is a link to my Patreon in the description, but it's slow-going right now. I will also be amping up my work with transcriptions again, soon. I've been writing/practicing a ton for my next album, so be on the lookout for all that!
      Thanks again for the kind words and support! Stay awesome! \m/

    Duuuuude, did you use the tab book? The production is muddy on some parts of the album, can't quite hear some riffs, wish they released a remaster like they did for the great misdirect. If it this was by ear, kudos!
    The patience it must have required to do this, damn. Nice! Ants of The Sky sounds so medieval haha

      Thanks, man! It started out by ear, yes. I didn't know there was a tab book until I had already finished Foam Born, Decade of Statues, and Informal Gluttony lol. After that I grabbed it and worked from there. Patience is the easy part for me. Extrapolating the notes of a single instrument to figure what goes in which instrument is the tough part.
