Here is what i have learned. Print something, assemble it, and paint it before moving on to the next unit in your army. This keeps each step fresh and fun. Also mix in a plate of something else in between.

I'm currently printing my 3rd army on my good old Mars 1 Pro. :)
My first Army is a steel legion army, the models are mostly from RedMakers (awesome model quality & price) and two straight GW copies (Taurox & Valkyrie). I also modified some of the Vehicles from RedMakers (I'm a professional 3D artist^^) to create my own unique vehicles (e.g. I took their IFV and turned it into a light tank).
My second and third army is from the OnePageRules Patreon (Saurian Starhost and Dwarven Guild).
I found out that not printing the complete army in one go, but more in an "escalation league" way is much less frustrating. E.g. I printed two Infantry squads, two power armor squads and one vehicle of the Dwarven guild (1000 points (OPR)) painted and played with them some games, we then increased the points by 250, so now I will print a trike and a runecaster to add to the army. Step by Step :D
Btw: You for one big issue when printing an army, you can't stop and sooner or later your appartment/house will be overrun by miniatures :D

I printed a Lizardman Army from One Page rules and I have a lot of 3d units as supplements to my Necron and Tyranid armies. I largely avoid copies, but have a lot of proxies (models that are obviously made to be a replacement for a GW model) but what I really love most are the "inspired by" models. Two that I especially enjoy are Highland Miniatures Steppe Goblins that reimagines the Warhammer Goblins as Mongol steppe nomads. You can use them to play the Old World because you can just use the rules for regular goblins, but they have a very distinct visual identity that fits the setting but isn't actually present in it. The second are the Dredge from Mezike. They're clearly meant to be the Death Guard, they even have a version of Mortarion, but their design contains absolutely no plague or disease elements. They have an aesthetic reminiscent of Big Daddy from Bioshock or Space Marie versions of the Vampire Coast. Anyone familiar with the Death Guard will immediately know what each model is supposed to be, but at the same time nobody is confusing them for actual Death Guard.
I also want to point out that no matter how slow your minis print, they'll take longer to paint. If you're painting as they're printing, the printer will feel oppressively fast.
Also, while multi part models are great for elite armies or units, for the love of all that's good and holy do not get multi part hoard kits. They are not on a sprue. If you have multiple different models you will mix them up, you will lose bits, you will find out you printed too few or too many. It's not worth it and the fact that they're not unique does not matter. Big, flashy units that draw the eye will look off if you have multiple in the same pose. You will find a weapon, arm, leg, or other part that fell off a hoard mini and you will look for the mini that lost it and not be able to find it, because they all just blend together.
If nothing else, using 3d prints as a supplement to buying minis is a must in my opinion. Printing a whole army is real work, but ultimately still easier that building one. The fact that it's a passive activity that happens while you're paints, makes it more likely you'll actually put something on the table and play.

I have been working for some time on getting a customized army. Being ambitious I decided on 2: Sisters of Battle, and Flesh Tearers. The Sisters are topless, while the Tearers are in chonky Mk5 armor with umbra pattern bolters with the bottom halves modified to have modernized hand guards. I did most of the work myself with 3D builder, and commissioned a sculptor to do what I can't. A ton of work, but the armies will turn some heads when they hit the table!

I've got commercial licenses to print stuff and advertise it for sale.
Because I live in a somewhat remote part of the world, there's not much competition.
So my prices are set low enough to keep it that way - it's not worth trying to compete with me because I am THAT cheap.
Of course, I have discovered that I also don't get to print stuff for myself anymore because I have orders coming out of my ears and I can't really afford the time needed to print my own stuff.
My pile of shame is already plenty big enough so I guess it's a good thing?

@@pulsegategaming If you have a commercial license then you can advertise the sculpts for sale.
I use FB marketplace and a local site that's roughly like ebay to advertise and sell my stuff.
Normally you MUST use the images provided by the creator, but you can include photos of prints as well if you like.
People can ask me to print stl's that they have purchased, typically they share them via Google Drive or some other site, I slice & print then delete the files after I am done.
Having a day job does somewhat limit my output potential, especially in our Winter since I can't leave the printer running overnight due to the cold.

Give me a week or or two and I will be able to print every single army out there complete with both vehicles and characters, although yes, some needs to be proxies, but the only cost I will have will be for the resin - hell, I use water washable resin, so I don't even have to pay for any cleaning agent....

Mostly agree. Except for two things. I have printed 30k to 50k points in less than a year. Marines, nids, guard, chaos knights, deamons, death guard, and about to start grey knights. Each army I print 3 of everything in the codex.
So yes. Buy STL’s from my mini factory subscriptions. There are tons of creators that every 3 months they do an entire army. That’s $30.
Also forget about GW sculpts. Artist sculpts are way better. My marines are minos detachment. They look awesome, they got Minos helmets, pads, guns with horns. My deamons are proper sci fi with mechanical parts, my Nurgle is all underwater beasties and plague marines in deep diver old timie armor. Do something special; after 30 years GW stuff looks stubby and old.
Where I disagree: printing is super easy, and fast. “Can you paint faster than you can print?”
The answer is no. For months I would start a print every night, every morning. The. I stopped printing for almost 6 months; cause I had to catch up on painting.
Minor disagreement. Yes it takes time, but I think is faster than hunting for GW boxes, cutting out of sprue, cleaning plastic… etc.
Finally. A printer now cost the same as a combat patrol. You don’t need a permanent place for your printer. Print 2 weeks. Then you can put it away. You’ll be painting for a long time.

A lot of my Astra Militarum army is 3D printed, but since I only have a FDM printer and no resin I mostly focused on bigger things. My scions are 3D printed, as well as my vehicles, but most troopers with small details like faces are bought. Mostly old ones or proxies though. Cults3D have some models that are very close to original GW. Since I mix my army I tend to try to get them as close as possible.

I'd say more as someone relatively new to 3D printing that finding Warhammer proxies or even exact copies is easy. I started looking on Cults3D but someone said a simple word to me - Telegram - and within a very short amount of time I found pretty much everything on there.
The hard part was more to do with the plethora of things that can cause failed prints, getting settings right, learning how to clean and service your kit, etc. It's a MESSY hobby, some of the materials are hazardous, and the hardware can be temperamental at best. IF you're lucky you get the "3D Printer go BRRT" results straight away, but I've been doing it a couple of months and still regularly get failed prints because I didn't quite dial in one of the million settings right. I'm actually quite lucky - we have some at work I can use for free and learn with - but even then we changed resin recently and even getting perfect results from the cones of calibration, actual prints were failing miserably until we dialled it in further. It really is a hobby in and of itself and people need to realise that.

    • @pulsegategaming
      @pulsegategaming  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

This kind of stuff is super sad for me to hear. My resin printer is one of the cheapest ones you can buy and I think after printing on a for a year I’ve only had maybe 4 failed prints out of hundreds. Yes it’s messy to clean up but after moving to water washable resin that completely changes as well. When I first started 3-D printing, it was definitely a hobby in of itself, but I feel like every month. It’s just getting easier and less messy. I hope that you see that too and your process gets better and easier.

Bad side of Telegram is most of the files being shared are stolen from creators. Sharing them on Telegram does not give anything to the creators that worked hard to make the models.
