There are so many habits that can be developed with a bit of willpower and repetition. I learned from Mom to start each cooking session by filling the sink with hot soapy water. Every time I finished using a knife or things that shouldn't go in the dishwasher, I immediately washed it. At the end of cooking, most ckean up was already done. When I put food away, I would fill up all the lunch containers with leftovers. Next morning it was simply grab and go with no more prep time. Bringing lunch to work saves thousands.
This is all so true! When my husband and I both got laid off in 2020 we went through a transition period. Thankfully we were already debt free. However, our lives changed drastically. It took a few months, but we figured out that we could live on just his income. (He got a new job quickly.) I have learned so many ways to save money, simply by using my new wealth of time. We no longer use the dishwasher; I wash by hand. We use less laundry soap, and no longer the pods. I can home cook more often, etc. So many little things add up to big savings!
Cooking dinner is not a chore, it's a gathering time to reconnect with family, everyone pitches in and talks about their day. This is what makes a strong family.
Also, when you cook at home, you don’t need fancy spice blends. I was making a new recipe and needed ancho chili powder. I was grateful that the store was out of it as it was $4.28 for a small bottle. I googled what to replace it with and it was red pepper flakes mixed with chili powder-2 spices I already had at home. Meal was great and I saved.
Sorry but ancho Chile powderpuff is not a blend of anything. You can use red pepper flakes but as a Latina I am telling you it is not the same thing. I cook at home all the time and I have stocked on many spices that make a world of difference. I don’t buy spices in bulk but in small quantities that I replace as needed. You buy ancho or any other dried Chile powder in the Hispanic section or Mexican markets usually for about a dollar or so for a pouch
This needs to be a whole nother book. The truth you’re speaking is gold. Almost every problem in life is part of a vicious cycle, it’s just a matter of finding the easiest place to break that cycle and sometimes it’s doing the dishes that ends with retiring with savings!
This is so true. It goes way beyond dinners too. I have homemade cake mix in my pantry but I couldn't even make that the other day because ALL the dishes are dirty. My baby is screaming for hours every day this week and I can't seem to get ahead but I'm trying to get 10-20 minutes cleaning when the kids finally get to bed so I can clear my head after that. Thanks for the encouragement and giving more useful advice for some of us who can't do it all at once.
I am not surprised by people who are in debt because of eating out. Working in a restaurant I see people who spend $40 -$80 each visit, with a lot of customers who come in several times a week. And the majority of them don't eat 1/2 of the food.
Lots of wisdom here. We eat out about once every other week. Used to do it 2-3x/week. It’s saving us over $6000/year. That’s the equivalent to two week-long cruise vacations, a good cash car, or several months worth of house/rent payments. Home cooking is much better for your body and pocketbook.
Ever since watching your cleaning videos and a few others from various TH-camrs I always remember these basic things: • Clean as you go • Have a Garbage Can next to you as you prep • Just stop making a mess
I absolutely believe that there's a direct correlation between dirty dishes and debt. It's attitude, I used to cook for a living in a big resort -- our soup had 3 ingredients -- chicken stock, heavy cream, broccoli, it was cooked til the brocco was soft then given a buzz with an immersible blender. This was a world class resort, many of the recipes were like this. So simple.
Those are great suggestions! I believe we’ve all felt overwhelmed with cooking and cleaning up. My trick was always sit down and relax and watch the evening news😂😂😂 and I would only get up and clean thru the commercials. It was amazing how much I could get done in just 2 or 3 minutes👍
So glad you said that! I do the same - high intensity cleaning! There's the focus of getting it done quickly, you don't get tired because it's only a couple of minutes at a time, and you don't feel guilty at watching the show instead of tackling the chores.
I work with no days off right now, but eating out is not in the budget for us. I cook simple meals at home that don’t take a lot of time or work. I refuse to spend money on eating out, because then it would make no sense to work if working makes you eat out. I earn my paycheck AND save money by cooking at home.
ALWAYS keep a frozen pizza or lasagne on-hand for emergencies! Spaghetti is super quick. Prepare a large salad on the weekend and use it with these items, taco salad, fajitas, or a piece of grilled chicken breast, etc.. When you grill or bake a roast or chicken, make extra, slice and freeze. It is not that hard if you don't over-think it.
I wasn't taught to do these things growing up and have really struggled as an adult to keep on top of the dishes and other mess in the kitchen. Watching and listening to you Tawra and Jill over the past few years has really helped me to master some of these skills. On my own I had definitely improved (especially as the kids got older, my kitchen was always a dump when they were little!) and I had learned the importance of getting the kitchen cleaned up before bed but boy would I drag my feet...sometimes I'd still be up at 3am because I had procrastinated cleaning up the kitchen and finally started on it at 2am! Cleaning up as I go has been a game changer for me. Hopefully now that I've worked it out I'm successfully passing those skills onto my teenagers :)
You two really hit the nail on the head. It takes effort and time to get yourself organized and get the kids involved. It's all worth it when you see how much good family time you share with your kids.
My SIL used to just keep all dishes dirty. As in, if you wished to have a drink, please select a dirty cup, wash it, dry it out, use it, put it down and leave it until next time. Things never sat so long as to get moldy or anything, but it was GROSS. I am at home full time, we don't have a dishwasher, but I don't even let my lunch dishes for one (me, home alone) linger long. A cluttered, dirty kitchen makes me crazy!
I meal prep and freeze most meals once a week. Things like pasta sauce, prepped meat. Then come home to the defrosted meals. It makes work day meals take 30 minutes. Also while the pasta is cooking for example I’m wiping the counters. And before sitting to eat. I wash all cooking dishes. So when dinners over I just have my dinner dishes to wash. 2 minutes max to wash and dry and the next morning I have a clean kitchen to make breakfast in.
I do a freezer and pantry inventory on a sheet of paper and write down meals I can make with what I have on hand. Saves so much money. Sometimes, it is a simple soup and sandwich but it is a meal that satisfies the whole family.
My #1 rule: finish the task. That means cook, eat, clean. Then relax. Same with laundry...wash, hang to dry when the sound goes off, fluff to dry, fold and immediately put away. Dont let the laundry pile up. Great video! My daughter seta the table, we all put our dirty dishes/utensils in the dishwasher, and dd clears the table (ketchup, salad dressing, etc). And if anyone has a snack they out their dirty dish in the washer. I also hand wash certain items as I go while cooking. Helps stay on top of it all
I actually listen to your videos with a set of headphone while I do my chores. This way I get to hear your videos and apply your advice at the same time, plus it makes cleaning somewhat fun because I get to listen to my TH-cam!
We went to IHOP during a softball tournament and spent 50$ for three of us!! Breakfast!!!!!! We were just sick afterwards. That was way too expensive. You can eat out once in a while - you just have to watch what you order and where you go. Eating out should be a special treat not an everyday thing.
juls jewels And order water to drink. Most restaurants make their money on beverages. I carry a bottle of Mio with me and flavor my water if I need a little flavor.
Everything you two said is the absolute truth! We mainly eat at home and eat at a restaurant once every two months. My husband is an over the road truck driver. I make him a few sandwiches and put leftovers from dinner when he's home in microwavable containers. I hit the drive-thru (never McDonalds! Yuck!) maybe once a week. This saves us thousands. I am a stay at home wife and we make it work comfortably. We save so much not eating out that we make a trip to Missouri and Louisiana every year to pick up my mom and bring her back here for Thanksgiving. The Louisiana trip is our yearly anniversary trip since we honeymooned there🙂 It does work if you do it right!
I very strongly agree with this. If my dishes aren’t done I have almost no motivation to clean anything else and I have to pick between my dishes and my laundry. If I’m washing laundry I can’t have hot water for dishes. So if I let them pile up it consumes my whole day trying to get them washed and do the other things that I need to do. The only reason why we don’t spend any money on going out to eat when we get behind is because there isn’t a restaurant within 30 minutes of our home.
I totally get the dishes all day long lol I run a day care and cook 3 meals and two snacks a day. But I want to thank you, your cook book has saved me so much money already. I love it and can’t wait to give it for Christmas gifts to my grown kids.. you guys are awesome. Feeding so many kids I have to watch all the pennies and still cook well rounded meals.
I am sooo proud of you Tawra for making everyone responsible for their OWN dishes. There is NO REASON why mothers should ever let any children over the age of eight leave dishes in the sink expecting someone else to clean them - this includes husbands!!!! Lazy parents just don’t like to be the bad-guy and want to be their children’s best friend instead of being their parent.
For me, the crochet wash cloths that Jill did a tutorial on really worked for me because they really make washing dishes so easy!! Plus when you make them in pretty colors, they look so cheery in the kitchen :) Little things can lead to big changes.
Oh I am so glad to hear that. You are so right about little things making a difference. I know we try to teach people not to spend money but I had a friend once that was having trouble getting herself motivated to clean so she each week would buy herself one little something to inspire her to get the job done - something like you said, a new dishrag, towel, bar of soap, even 1 little flower to put in a vase on her dining room table when she got it cleaned. It was never more than a dollar or two and she had a spotless house.
@@janeyd.6228 th-cam.com/video/58dxlSNem8s/w-d-xo.html Hello Janey D. Hope this link works, if not just type How to Crochet Dish Rags-Knitting and Crocheting Dishcloths. This was on LOADTGR on July 7, 2018.
I agree this eating out all of the time is what prevents savings, home purchases, and what causes a lot of losses with employed people. Working is being used as an excuse out of cooking and I think it’s accepted. Then to be buying cars and vehicles beyond their means...there’s nothing left over. It’s not as simple as going to a job. You have a lot of side jobs at home. It’s what you do with what you make.
Thanks for the timely kick in the pants. In the summer weather I tend to want to get back outside and WAS just piling up the dirty dishes and glasses in the sink. Today’s mission is to have a spotless uncluttered kitchen. ❤️
When I was a teenager, I babysat for people who hated to wash dishes. There would always be dirty dishes in the sink, on the kitchen table and on all of the counters!! So when I babysat I washed all of the dishes too. I never could figure out why they left dirty dishes everywhere.
How very true! These are very good tips. If I might add, in the area I used to live I was able to purchase some foil pans fairly cheap. I would make one pan meals and use paper plates and plastic ware until I got things back under control. Using the throw away stuff freed up the time I needed to get back on track. I no longer need to that on a regular basis, but if I know that I am about to have a very busy day or 2 I will use the same tricks so I don't get back into that quagmire.
Peanut butter sandwiches, avocado sandwiches (just bread and avocado), and cereal are my quick go to meals for tough days. As a bonus, my kids love all of these foods.
Exactly you and your family does not need a 10 course meal. They would rather have a simple meal (like you all have mentioned) and relaxed mom than a huge elaborate meal and a stressed mom
I try to clean as I cook. I have my sink with water and soap, and I will clean the dishes when I know I would use it again. I use left overs that are in Rubbermaid containers, and at times have 3 or 4 containers. I clean them as I use the food. Or I will combine last nights burger with tonights green beans. It honestly doesn't take me too much more time. I'm standing there anyway, right? Great advice ladies!! P.S. I don't have a dishwasher, and I have the cookbook :)
I am cleaning my kitchen as I text. Thank you. I too have this problem and I want to do better. God willing this is a new beginning for me. May God Bless You Ladies.
Way to go. Also sometimes it is fun and can inspire you to put on up beat music or listen to youtube things like this while you are working. Keep up the good work!
Great cookbook. I made the gravy mix. I used it as specified in the recipe, except I replaced the water with beef broth because I had it. It was really good. I found that even better was using it to make milk gravy. It was amazing!
I have found this video to be so true for any family. One other reason I've found that pushes people to eat out is not having some quick options in their pantry to pull from on a busy night or planning the night before/early in the day what's for dinner. Great video. Could help lots of people think different about these situations.
@Mrs. M I know my kids always like a sandwich with good ham, chicken or turkey lunch meat or grilled (ham) cheese. I always give them some fresh veggies on and on the side. Also, I keep some good quality canned chicken breast in my supplies. It's so super fast & versatile to make good meals. I know it can be expensive in comparison to cooking it yourself & it's not a regular thing. However, way cheaper as an alternative for people who tend to fall back on "fast food".
It made my baking so much easier when I started doing that. I have one in the sugar too. I also use an ice cream scoop that has a little arm in it for baking. It is 1/4 cup and I measure shortening, honey, syrup and the little arm scrapes it out so well. I will also grab that to measure milk or water.
I can relate to Mom whose life was affected by illness. I am 4 yrs into being ill and although I am half my self, I cannot catch up or keep up. I have no help and one time paid someone to help me but the money ran out fast. This past weekend I cleaned the inside of my dishwasher so that I can use it and finally put a load of dishes in. I get too exhausted too easily. I like your ideas. Any other tips, tricks and hacks to help me get ahead will be greatly appreciated!!
I know some people get defensive or sensitive with some of the advice you two give. I however find it very refreshing in this age where everyone is coddled. And the crazy thing is...what you're saying is common sense and not new. People just need to be able to listen advice as it is without getting defensive. They don't have to agree but it's not necessary to get defensive.
As always, good, common sense advice! Another thing about having a buddy help in the kitchen, it's a good time to visit with each other. Thank you and have a great day.
Yes kids will talk your leg off when you do this. So many people are making a special bonding time with their kids which is fine but by doing things like this you really bond and are teaching them how to do something and be responsible at the same time.
When I make a meal I clean as I go, if I can. Other wise I will just fill my pots and pans or dishes with soapy water until after the meal, then I will wash all the dirt dishes. And then I just let them air dry in the dish strainer.
It called teaching ur kids to clean up the dishes off the table put them in the dish washer hello. U got it teaching them it’s not hard. Great job teaching them.
I don't have a dish washer so I bought a wire shelf to put over one of the sinks. So I rinse dishes and stack them under a wire shelf. I put dish container on top of it. So you don't see the stacked dishes and put silverware in a big glass with hot soaking water. That stays in other sink. Then I put drain item and container to wash dishes on wire shelf and cover with a towel. We are on well water and don't do dishes everyday unless we have cooked a good deal. We are just 2 people. Plus we don't want to waste water. So that works for us and it looks neat all the time. 😁
I chose to stay at home because at this point in my life with two young children 7 and 4, and another on the way it's just easier. It costs less because we're not having to pay for daycare (which would wipe out the 2nd income anyway), I cook and so we're not eating out much, and I get more family time. There are definitely certain things that we could be more frugal on but we aren't doing bad. We keep to maximum of $50 a week on groceries. We're a military family and so between Aldi (where I get the majority of my produce and eggs) and the commissary (where I get my meat and anything else that isn't saved by Aldi) it's doable. I see people with massive amounts of food in their carts and I'm going around with just the food that I accounted for meals. I will admit that I did fall into the dirty dishes trap more often when my husband is deployed and that's really a depression thing. It was hard last year when he got stationed in South Korea last year. Now that he's back it's been easier and now that the honeymoon time is over we're getting back to business.
Btw I collect Fiesta Ware and love to use my dishes. But I do have paper platea and plastic utensils on hand for nights where I am just worn down. We still get a good home cooked meal but clean up is easier!
It saddens me when people say they’d like to be a stay at home parent who don’t consider how much it costs for both parents to work! (Day care expenses…ugh, vehicle expenses, wardrobe, all the conveniences you need because you don’t have time because you’re working and exhausted.
I wonder how much time that hairdresser had to work to equal the money spent at a restaurant...especially for 5 people. How many heads of hair if she just used her tip money. Great show as always ladies and Have a Blessed day.
Practicing simple but healthy meals can save time and money. Dinner can look like a salad and sandwich. Or a piece of frozen pizza with fresh fruit. Keeping egg salad, potato salad or pasta salad in the fridge can mean dinner is almost done, if served with veggies, a slice of cheese and whole grain crackers. I use paper plates for every food item that is not scalding hot. Even the foam plates will hold up under toast and eggs, if left in the pan/toaster for about a minute so they can cool off a bit. While disposable plates may not work for everyone, it is good for breakfast and lunch, at least. Sometimes I just use a paper towel for a sandwich or snack like potato chips or popcorn.
Believe it or not. A garbage disposal made it so much better for us to keep the dishes up. Since soup was a big meal choice in my house for one elderly member, who never cleaned the multiple bowls, which showed up many random times per day. The sink had disgusting bowls dropped in at all times. No one wanted to tackle it. It was dealing with the "sink vomit" as my husband called it, that made it unbearable. For us, maybe not for everyone, a disposal saved us, and we now easily keep up with the dishes. A simple disposal, with a drain plug that lets small things through and not large items, like spoons and forks. It was so easy to rinse quickly, and no dealing with soup which did not easily go into the garbage bag. Yes, dirty dishes are depressing. ... I would add laundry to that list. One simple load per day, makes a huge difference, and becomes part of the routine. ... Glad I found your channel, love your videos.
I wash my dishes in sets, 1preparation dishes 2 pots pans used in cooking baking vehicles measuring cups.3 is meal dishes I wash and clean as I go along . Than I wash counter. At the end of day sink stove microwave. Than I spray homemade solutions of Lemon essential oils .i don’t have a dishwasher but my kitchen is always clean.
My son said we needed a dishwasher. I laughed and said we have one! She is 54 years old but she still works! Your just 15 when do you start? He has never said another word! Lol
another good tip, think like a minimalist! if there is 4 people in your household don't have 30 plates! (have extra plates in storage for parties.but make sure they are not easily accessible) , In the kitchen have one plate and bowl , one knife, one fork, one spoon one cup/glass for each family member plus a spare set for a guest. That way there should never be a overwhelming amount of dishes in the sink.
Love this! We recently bought a house and when we moved I couldn't believe how many spoons we had in the cutlery drawer! Ugh! Two people don't need 20 spoons! 😂
Love this! We recently bought a house and when we moved I couldn't believe how many spoons we had in the cutlery drawer! Ugh! Two people don't need 20 spoons! 😂
Yes one of the main tips I do for organizing in every room is to actually take time and think - I have 1 double bed - do I really need 10 sets of sheets for it? When you have so much you have to clean all those things, find a place to store them, take time to shift and move them every time you need stuff. You would save so much time if you got rid of things.
I DO NOT mind the dishes. I hate cleaning the stove. plus my family won’t eat. Too picky ends up in the trash. Then I just don’t cook anymore. Negative experience.
Been married forty four years c one September eleventh two thousand nineteen I vary rarely had dirty dishes because when u wake up to dirty dishes it ruins whole day and I didn't want it drawing varmints such it's just me hubby now kids grown me hubby always make sure no dishes or food left out
Definitely agree! The best is to get them done before going to bed and definitely don't leave in the morning with dishes in the sink. And if you come home and your teenagers have put dishes in the sink while you were away...... kill them. Well not literally. lol
My husband and I went out for a date during breakfast on Friday and Saturday we ordered pizza for dinner. Prior to Friday and Saturday we haven’t eaten out any meals for over a month and I actually felt guilty.
Great video! We only eat out occasionally, when neither me or my husband has the energy to cook. & I try to get 2 or 3 easy dinner options when I grocery shop to help keep us from doing so. My fav is the rottiserie chicken, Italian bread, & frozen spinach! I have health/energy issues myself, so if I don't get it all cleaned up afterwards I will come sometime later & finish up after a nap. ; )
Yes that is one of the underlying themes of all of our saving on groceries posts and videos. People would save a ton on groceries if they ate less and threw less food away.
Paper plates, bowls and utensils are the way to go. If you buy the plastic coated ones you can microwave on them and then just toss them. There are tons of quick microwave meals that you can make in minutes, like quesadillas, tostadas with beans and cheese, I love microwaving a Tyson chicken pattie...the good ones with the real meat...then chopping it up, adding a can of 59 cent pinto beans from Kroger, topping it with low fat cheese, then microwaving that in the paper bowl for two or three minutes and topping it with sour cream and salsa and chips or crackers...kind of like a chicken chili...all in minutes for pennies with absolutely no mess. It's worth every bit of the 10 dollars a week for the paper and plasticware.
Yes, you might be tired from working all day, but I'd rather cook at home bc food in a restaurant is just not as good as home cooked food! I add it up to sheer flat out laziness if people don't wanna cook or wash dishes. I know a man who came home to his wife being gone and his little boy asleep in the bed all alone. That crazy lady left him a baloney sandwich with a note that said she ran off to Whichard's Beach for the weekend! Sorry excuse with for a mother! Get ya ass in the kitchen and cook! Life is not about you! Its about your family and you taking care of them.
My problem is my family will not clean dishes (very traditional/by gender roles) or clean at all. I clean everybody's dishes all the time and have not much energy or time to cook. Also taking care of a sick family member with not much help. Eating out on the healthy/cheap side has been my salvation and only help and it's cheaper than hiring a cleaner which we've never done. But I can and do cook just not as often as I'd like, try to put some extras in the freezer. Right now my focus is turning the kitchen into a kitchen I love and keeping it nice and clean and organized at all times so that whenever I or someone else wants to cook it's a pleasure. Oh also got paper plates.
Pack up all the dishes. Give each family member 1 bowl, 1 plate, 1 knife, 1 fork, 1 spoon, 1 cup, 1 mug of their own color. Then they wash AND PUT UP their dishes on the shelf after EACH USE! If they refuse to do it there are no other dishes to use. There is NO REASON AT ALL for you to be doing that gender or no gender. Guys do dishes in the Army ALL the time. They can do them at home too!
@@LivingOnADime Thank you so much for the reply! Well, my dad is actually the worst about this, he's in his 60s and it's very hard for me to change his ways but he will use paper plates. He really refuses to wash things and if he does he does a very bad job plus all the general cleaning all falls on me. No one else will do it. Also can't really leave home because I'm taking care of my sick mom. But I got my brother to wash his dishes which is a big help and I consider that a big win! I agree with you 100%, it's wrong. If I had a son I would teach him to clean up after himself. I love your videos!
@@LivingOnADime He would have refused and I've had a low income for years. Right now he's actually paying for a caregiver while I'm at work so I'm very grateful for that. I don't mind cleaning, we're okay. Maybe in future I'll be the one to pay for housekeeping at least once a year or something. Thank you so much for the replies!
I find it curious that you have to actually make a video telling people how to do something so basic and common sense as how to clean their kitchens and make dinner? Are people today that disorganized or are they just lazy? I am 61 and have worked full time since I was 17 years old. I have been married since I was 19 and we have 4 children. CAYG (clean as you go) was something I preached to my children daily and I still practice it to this day. 10 minutes now saves hours later. How do people function when their lives are so chaotic? I would go mad. Especially now that I am ill. (Lyme co-infection, fibro, ME-CF, IBS etc.) If I just left things go, our home would be in chaos in a very short time. My husband works 6 days a week to support us and helps around the house when he can, but I do things in small bursts and keep pretty much on top of things. I do get overwhelmed sometimes, but I just take a deep breath and tackle one thing at a time until I get on top of things again. Keeping the kitchen clean is a priority and I try to keep the ingredients around for simple suppers when necessary. I wouldn't have the energy to go out and eat even if I had the money. How can you be exhausted and then go out to eat?
What has happened is many people now had moms that worked and just didn't have the time or the energy to teach the kids how to do things. Now we have a generation who really want to learn but sadly there aren't too many out there who can teach them how to do it now. I love it that so many are really wanting to try and change. How can you be exhausted and then go out to eat? It is all in the state of mind. A women once said I just don't have one ounce of energy to clean up this kitchen. Her husband came home and said "Shall we go out dancing tonight?" and she said "How fun I would love too."No energy for dishes but lots for dancing :):)
You are so right Jill. When I am exhausted, the last thing in the world I want to do is get up and go out to a restaurant. I am lucky I can hold a plate and get the fork to my mouth. I guess it is all priorities.
Just found your channel. What a beautiful family (mum and daughter and I saw a dog passing by). Are your kids still small? I wish I had someone to teach me all that before. Xx

Ever since watching your cleaning videos and a few others from various TH-camrs I always remember these basic things:
• Clean as you go
• Have a Garbage Can next to you as you prep
• Just stop making a mess
👍"A penny saved..."
That's wisdom!
My kitchen is 85% clean BEFORE we sit down to eat.
Mine too. Makes cleanup a snapthen more free time afterwards.
In our 47 year marriage I was the cook and hubby was the dishwasher. Perfect combo for a clean kitchen and coffee time together.
This is the most truthful perspective on household finance and food. And I love the way you guys say "warsh".
There’s a lady called Flylady who has a ministry/program to help with your house, and she starts with a clean shiny sink. It really works!
Very good point. Home cooking can be done for 10% of cost of eating out.
I carry a bottle of Mio with me and flavor my water if I need a little flavor.
.
And you were sick...why?
Thank you Jammie. I am so glad you like the book and I love when people actually are using it and it is helping them. :):)
So simple, but so necessary to repeat! Amen, Sisters!
This is so true!!! My fam eats out when I don’t do the dishes. Thx for sharing!!
For me, the crochet wash cloths that Jill did a tutorial on really worked for me because they really make washing dishes so easy!! Plus when you make them in pretty colors, they look so cheery in the kitchen :) Little things can lead to big changes.
AnishNorge Lq
Oh I am so glad to hear that. You are so right about little things making a difference. I know we try to teach people not to spend money but I had a friend once that was having trouble getting herself motivated to clean so she each week would buy herself one little something to inspire her to get the job done - something like you said, a new dishrag, towel, bar of soap, even 1 little flower to put in a vase on her dining room table when she got it cleaned. It was never more than a dollar or two and she had a spotless house.
Where did Jill show how to make the dishrags, please.
Yes Tawra always love being outside in the garden too in the summer so it can be hard
When I was a teenager, I babysat for people who hated to wash dishes. There would always be dirty dishes in the sink, on the kitchen table and on all of the counters!! So when I babysat I washed all of the dishes too. I never could figure out why they left dirty dishes everywhere.
My mother was a hoarder and a maniac depressive. I understand the exact thing you are talking about.
This is a great tip! I've been saving some of those foil tins from pies so I wouldn't feel so guilty throwing those away if I had to.
@@erikareading
That's a better idea - throwing away so much foil and plastic after one use is just terrible for the planet!
If I am that tired after work, I make a quick sandwich and I am done! Its Ok to be simple...
...and even a bowl of breakfast cereal...
Sass YES!!
I chuckle out loud every time you say....”Come onnnnnn peeeeople! “
Me too
I am cleaning my kitchen as I text.
The measuring scoop in the flour idea is such a good idea.
This is one of the truest pieces of money saving advice I’ve ever received. Thank you so much!
I ask myself, do I want to be a debt slave?....this has helped me with my purchases of every kind!!
That is the coolest title for a video!!!
AWWW! Thanks!
It called teaching ur kids to clean up the dishes off the table put them in the dish washer hello. U got it teaching them it’s not hard. Great job teaching them.
This is so true! I'm so glad you kept going with youtube and never gave up. You are so helpful and a channel I watch everyday
love listening to your mom!
Sometimes we can’t see the forest for the trees!
It saddens me when people say they’d like to be a stay at home parent who don’t consider how much it costs for both parents to work! (Day care expenses…ugh, vehicle expenses, wardrobe, all the conveniences you need because you don’t have time because you’re working and exhausted.
Grandma's looking younger by the Video!!! 🌻🌻🌻👏👏
Love it when mom says to train your husband.
I try to clean as i go.
I wonder how much time that hairdresser had to work to equal the money spent at a restaurant...especially for 5 people. How many heads of hair if she just used her tip money. Great show as always ladies and Have a Blessed day.
The best thing I've done for my kitchen was when I started cleaning as I go. It saves so much time after.
I love your cookbook. Yesterday I made your oatmeal-cookies. So yummy❤❤❤❤
Dishwasher ? I thought that was my name. You mean to tell me there automated now? LOL
My son said we needed a dishwasher. I laughed and said we have one! She is 54 years old but she still works! Your just 15 when do you start? He has never said another word! Lol
Food prepping helps me a lot
This is such good advice. Thanks so much for your videos!
another good tip, think like a minimalist! if there is 4 people in your household don't have 30 plates!
Been married forty four years c one September eleventh two thousand nineteen I vary rarely had dirty dishes because when u wake up to dirty dishes it ruins whole day and I didn't want it drawing varmints such it's just me hubby now kids grown me hubby always make sure no dishes or food left out
You make such practical sense. Enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I have health/energy issues myself, so if I don't get it all cleaned up afterwards I will come sometime later & finish up after a nap. ; )
Start using banana leaves and branches, when finish throw in the compost. 👍
This is true! This is my favorite video because this is very practical advice
That’s insane!!! 😱 oh my...
I just ordered the cook book. I can't wait!
Thanks for the order
well said! i do the same as you Tawra and soak and rinse or even wash dishes as i go!good advice as always Tawra and Jill!
Overeating causes debt too.
Yes that is one of the underlying themes of all of our saving on groceries posts and videos. People would save a ton on groceries if they ate less and threw less food away.
I sincerely love you guys🙏grateful to have found you
I just went to the kitchen to make a cup of coffee. While it brewed , it take 3 minutes, I washed a sink full of dishes. It doesn’t take much time.
Throw the trash from the plate to the garbage, I feel that!
I work 40 hours and some of the fastest things i can make is a grilled cheese or spag bol! Just gotta rinse the dishes after :)
One pot pasta
These tips are really helpful. Thanks! Just made your egg rolls today and wow they were good!!!
great points ladies
Fantastic. Direct and funny. Thanks ladies. 😀
Just so bad for the environment ☹☹
Very wasteful...
Thank you for sound advice! Shared.
That's good! Could you make dad pay for housekeeping? I would suggest that.
I guess it is all priorities.
crap for $20 grand they could hire a cook lol
I always soak my dishes. So much easier to clean
Just found your channel. What a beautiful family (mum and daughter and I saw a dog passing by). Are your kids still small? I wish I had someone to teach me all that before. Xx
Our youngest is 9. We have adult children.
