    I’ve seen a lot of performers in my 55 years, and few would qualify as a genius musically and as a wordsmith, but Robyn is one of them.

    "Crampons thrown into my teen-aged cliff"? How can we not love what Robyn Hitchcock does?

    When I heard Underwater Moonlight in college it totally blew my mind. I would put it up there with the first two Big Star records and the first two Television records in terms of influence and genius. I didn't hear A Can of Bees until much later, but I rate that one in the same pantheon.

    I want to thank my girlfriend from circa 2001 for taking me to see a Robyn Hitchcock show and a Soft Boys show back then, and for showing me Storefront Hitchcock. Thank you, Lauren.

    To the interviewer: You need to let Robyn talk. I'm seen Robyn live, I've met him -- believe me, he has plenty to say.

    Paul Westerberg heard Robyn's new record I Often Dream Of Trains and started covering Sleeping Knight's Of Jesus and I heard that on The Replacements live to only fans farewell cassette made for Twin Tone Records and only 600 were released. I bought at least two of them. Only have one left and it's missing the little felt thingy. But Paul also mentioned Robyn in interviews along with Chilton and Big Star.

    I saw the Soft Boys at a reunion gig at the Hope & Anchor in 1984...fantastic gig, Rew, Morris Windsor, original lineup -- the power went out & they kept playing anyway--listening to the Higsons was the song & then power was restored

    Only just noticed this one! I left the Soft Boys cadre after Radar records dropped the band & weirdly enough re-encountered both Robyn (as a solo act at the Bluebird Cafe) and Kim at The Brass Rail with Katrina & the Waves when I was living in Nashville. Fast forward many years & Kim & I now live within five miles of each other & he & his Wife Lee have both played with me at several small local gigs. I haven`t seen Robyn in decades, but Kim & Lee are both still in touch. Many fond memories of "back then". Can I urge you to all check out Kim & Lees latest album, Purple Kittens? Some fun songs...

    I really regretted missing his concert in Sacramento I figured it would be my only chance but I just couldn’t do it on my own being very disabled &a little bit poor Plus lack of courage. Revolver is my favorite album to. And remember when it came out I was about 20. Anyone who heard it their lives were changed forever from then on. Especially “tomorrow never knows.” my daughter told me she was in love with a dead rockstar. Oh who is that honey? Syd Barrett mom he’s the same age as you

      Yeah. It sorta cut out at the exact point it got interesting. You can tell Robyn and Kim speak the same musical language - just listen to their guitar interplay. It actually brings me joy to listen to it - especially the 'Can of Bee's' stuff.

    He mentions Athens, GA. I wonder if the soft boys helped create/influence the formation of pylon

    • @dognougat
      @dognougat ปีที่แล้ว

      In retrospect I can see some similarities between the soft boys and pylon, but the music scene in that period was super malleable and dynamic. I'd like to think that pylon was influenced by "can of bees" among many other things
