  • Circularity and mobility are key features of livable and sustainable cities. This translates into mega projects that require a global approach towards city designs. In this presentation, the case of the Big Link in the city of Antwerp shall be discussed. The story of how the renovation of the city ring road has become a project that is providing integrated solutions for circularity, mobility and connecting districts and citizens through advanced participation in decision making.
    This is framed within the advanced knowhow of Flanders in these fields, accelerating towards a circular future.

    good PR of what Antwerp has in mind to do. A little simplified and ignoring the big issues: polluted soil to deal with, (PFOS, and many other), still building big parkings in the city centre, not at all car-low streets, new squares (Operaplein) with ONLY stone and nothing green, huge challenges with illegal dumping of street waste, no farmers markets included, that new and stupid idea to build a huge shopping mall with instant recreation instead of supporting SME and local shops etc. And not to mention the increasing extreme right voters in the city.. So, we are still not there :-(.
