Character development criticism: first is ok, second is likely controversial
7:22 Jane's character in this regard is really, really strange. In this episode, he doesn't seem to be familiar with the term (zooming in) and instead calls it (biggefying). I can't call Jane internet and computer illiterate, but can't assume he is either. He is not that old, but I don't recall him being familiar with the internet (not technology in general, but internet and computer). Yet later when he saw the kid playing an fps game, he suddenly is so familiar with video game community he knew players consider their experience in terms of ranks, suspects in-game chat as a communication tool for the criminal (which is unfortunate given PS4's chat used in a terrorist attack later in 2015 I think, or it's either the series playing with fire if it happened before it). Excuse me? A guy who presumably knew nothing and doesn't know the term (zoom in), now knows games have in-game chat and specifically suspects players on the same rank (as a pay to win noob thing, don't recall the details) in 2 years in Mexico and few months back? I'm not saying Jane was dumb but clearly he was written to look like internet illiterate. And no, he wasn't acting dumb in fron of a suspect intentionally to play dumb, he did it in CBI HQ asking Grace to biggefy the image. Poor character development. Or better, if the man playing was acting really violent, and Chi mentions his anger issues back to the office, to which Wiley enquires of what game it was. So Cho says (some bad guys speaking Chinese or better translating their quotes given his Asian background, Korean but who cares. Could say they said words they sounded like invade Kalnov tower where that tower is a famous mission in battlefield or whatever). That way, Jane would still have his normal, naturally learning character, Cho has some ethnic taste (I hate race representation and stuff, think it's nonsense, but since we have him, hell let's capitalize on it. And Wiley gets some recognition, and he himself that explains the ranks and Jane suspects it.
About Wiley and Vega, it bothers me how young, seemingly inexperienced, or at least relative to FBI requirements they're sub bar standard they met. Wiley at least had some technical experience he knew how to use. Vega, unfortunately, seemed to be poorly written. She doesn't have the "redeeming qualities" I would expect in an FBI agent. She could've been an equipment expert. Her military background could set her up to install equipment (the hotel secret devices thing could've been written better with so intricate designs and camouflages. She could've done some decoding work on the Beirut code thing, like understanding some terms that Wiley by himself couldn't decode. Something more than just IT technical experience, like military grade dangers where she had to communicate with someones in coded terms that she was familiar with back at military courses that Wiley's experience itself couldn't handle it. Cho is a narcotic dept thing, but he isn't equipped or familiar with explosive squad and posing as an expert explosive manufacturer. She could've done the set up for the girl's escort, setting up the cameras some additional cameras in the hotel to be monitored from the van. Call it active military surveillance experience. She could've had that role, but alas. It's shame her role was so superficial and even made pathetic for both her and Wiley that they made Cho treat them like children honestly. Even her death. Do you think she is a 12 yo girl that a bullet killed her, when other characters like Lisbon herself survived 3 shots or so with Craig's Hightower encounter? Lisbon is likely more trained physically and older than her, but c'mon. A 20 yo or so woman dies this easily. She could've been suggesting some actions from hospital. I know they went for the (brave young girl soldier) route, but it's almost like the writers had a pity look on her role, that of no serious consideration. They seemed like they wanted fill the role of 2 people by whatever characters, and didn't give Wiley or Vega that much attention, or significance for better accuracy.
Why am I writing this on a van Belt's video? I dunno honestly.
Grace had a strange character building, dare I say poorly developed character. Yes she started to grow from naive believing mentalist stuff to doubting them. 0:28 (gee, thanks)? She was intended to be naive just to give Jane the mysterious aura, the amplifying effect to his abilities. Am I offended over god thing? Not at all. Lisbon seems to be slightly religious, or at least wears a cross bracelet. I don't recall her theist except for that explosive vest when she was praying. Jane on the other hand remained (I can't tell atheist or agnostic but for sure he doesn't believe in an afterlife) even when it would be heartbreaking to assert some stuff. He could've kept silent when his wife's brother visited his wife's/sister's grave. Her sister said (Maybe they're looking down on us right now). First he said (no they don't) and then (maybe).
I'm agnostic. Am I offended by Lisbon's cross? No. Jane's atheism? No. What I'm offended by is the poor development Grace went through just cuz they wanted to give Jane some [additional] mysterious aura then forget her past. She does mention omg sometimes. It just seems poor character writing.
Want to be offended? I find post-RJ Jane strange and somewhat shallow. The (husband who can't forget what happened to his wife) Jane is the one I know. It's not Lisbon crush (rather outgoing and openly flirtatious and protective) of her that's strange. He was before and I like it. The Jane who almost got over his wife's and daughter's death (he did kill RJ, but he must still have an open wound for them that I don't think can be healed within as quickly as 2 years of killing RJ) as if they never were is the Jane I don't know.
As much as I like Jane's character, I wish I could've written him differently, or even wrote RJ much differently for that matter.
Again, the (gee, thanks) is a clear poor development of Grace's.
Yes. And her kissing Stiles. I suspected he's gonna do her do some shady things or become lenient in some affair after she said (1) she's into bad guys (don't care of her sex life but I felt something bad is gonna come of it). But that was one loose end that was not addressed.
(1) which is dumb as a cop to give someone you don't know and isn't a cop the upper hand like in a relationship or a financial affair like lending that they could possibly one day abuse, let alone a cult leader, like not just a simple athlete or gang member.

I'm glad she didn't stay that clueless naive little girl she was in the beginning...she had actual character growth
Rigsby is still the naive and childish guy we meet at the beginning and i love him for that.

tbh the ending of s5 was worse than the season 7. 7 was bleh but at least Jane and Lisbon got their ending

Grace is my favorite character on the show! She's the character I relate to the most and I love her growth and how when she came into her own and endured trauma, she still had a huge heart. She's also a badass, but she's a nice badass. I also love her friendship with Lisbon!

Grace as a character is the living proof that having Jane in the team makes the team of agents becoming better at what they do, especially when Grace casually dismiss that douche “doctor” and told him to up his game to get under her skin just after working with Jane for 9 months.
