My perspective/take on the desert duo: I have always told this story from a heart broken Scar's perspective, but being able to include Grian's guilt filled perspective too now is a joy. In my eyes post 3rd life created a massive rift between the two. Reminder this is my interpration of characters Grian and Scar, this is all platonic and in no way canon to the series/Martyn's AU. Scar's Perspective: From Scar's perspective Grian grew distasteful of him and he couldn't wrap his mind around why Grian acted so cold to him post 3rd life, did he do something wrong? He misses his friend, espically during double life when he was ignored by him almost all season. They were soul mates, but Grian was building away, creating a secret soulmate ship with BigB and going down into the deep dark without him, sure for saftey reasons but still felt like it was to get away from him. With Limited Life, Secret Life and now Wild Life Grian still chooses to be away from him. During the end of Secret Life Scar spent so long in that world alone reflecting and smashing that succeed button. When Scar won all the memories from the past seasons came rushing in. He rememebered that Grian won 3rd life and had been avoiding him because of what happened there. All the friends, allies, enemies, events, all of it came back to him. He wondered if all the other winners felt this way too, getting all their memories in depth back too. In Wild life he tries to talk to Grian and asks if they were still friends and brings up 3rd life. Grian brings it up "Just like 3rd life" and Scar says "oh what happened." He knows he just wanted to hear Grian's perspective but it was not given. "Are we still friends?" he asked. Scar never had any resentment towards Grian with 3rd life, he cherishes those memories. He keeps his feathers and the poppy and lilacs he decorates his Secret Life skin with. During his time alone he found Grian's corpse seeing how he went out with the broken shielf and sword through his chest. The blood stained red sweather Scar luggs with him to the Secret keeper and just sits there. Taunted by all the winner's stars, wondering when he will see them again, everyone again, not just Grian. He rebuilt things in peace until it was time for the next series. Grian's Perspective: From Grian's perspective, he felt guilty about the way things played out at the end of 3rd life. Scared even that Scar hated him for that. Only one winner could win. Even if he says "whatever happens we're both winners right?" The guilt started to eat him alive when he saw Scar again in Last Life. Grian went with the Southernlands to try and distract himself from all that happened in 3rd life. He remembers all the events of 3rd life during last life. By Double Life Grian wanted to distance himself from Scar as he was now forced to face him head on, but he couldn't so, he just was avoidant the entire time except when they were being chased down by all the reds as the last green names. (He does really care for BigB and he always wanted a series team up with him). He believed if he was avoidant with Scar maybe the pain he felt in his heart would vanish. In limited life he didn't want to feel trapped by Scar so he went with Joel and Jimmy. After Double Life it kept making him feel like he had an obligation to Scar even though he didn't, not since 3rd life and Double Life was not his intention. So he joined the Bad Boys and shooed Scar away at every turn. Killing him again at the end of Limited away was just a lucky kill for time but in his mind a way to solidify he had moved past everything in 3rd life. He could finally move on not feeling guilty anymore he belived, then why is there still this feeling like I miss him. In secret life Grian tried to talk to him again little by little as friends. Scar welcomed him with no hesistation. Grian seeing Scar win Secret life he was proud of him, but also left him in that world alone. When Wild Life arised he was faced with the fact Scar remembered everything and was ready to have that conversation. He joked that BigB treated him better. Seeing the feathers from his 3rd life wings and the poppy and lilacs caught him off guard. Realizing he does still care, but it hurts him to know he still cares. He wants to be friends again. He's sorry. But scar doesn't see why Grian needs to appologize, it was ages ago and he never felt any negative feelings for that day. Grian's one sided guilt and Scat's longing to be friends again. Those two are always chasing after eachother whether they like it or not, they miss each other. The purple star eyes is my newest headcanon that each winner has in their left eye. (originally it was going to be a crown shape but I thought star was easier) The other headcanon I've had for YEARS is that Scar has a cape with his life color indicator. Right before they fight for the final time Scar gives it to Grian because his cape was tatered. As Grian kills Scar the indicator goes from red to black. Now the lonely Grian, last live has his cape and dies with it. The real reason: People don't like fun and don't like repeitive groups so they get angry about them teaming up, LET THEM TEAM UP AGAIN IDC I MISS THEM AUUUGH Brain rotting Desert Duo, Canary Curse and Dogwartz fr fr

I think I remember you writing this in a post as well but I hadn't got everything without the context of the animatic and having it now makes them both so much better, I love this dynamic (and yeah why does the fandom has to be rude with repetitive team ups let them have their fun!!!)

The animatic was beautiful! Every detail and refrence you put in there was amazing. I kind of watched through all the seasons and had no idea about lore, but now I have to rewatch the all again cause ahhhhh I miss Desert Duo so much Desert Duo is my beloved ❤️❤️❤️
i actually screamed when scar looked up at the sky and saw the stars of all the other winners HJFDSKFGAHKJFSDAJK OH MYGODDDDDDDDDD THE COOKIES CRUSHING THE LILACS AND POPPIES?????? also great song choice because "i don't wanna go we've been here before, everything i know brings me back to us" is such a life series lyric. it feels like somehow despite how different every season we cycle back. the emotions i felt when desert duo were double life soulmates.... unparalleled. scar remembering everything with the flashbacks of other animatics oh my goddddddd

Everyone I showd the crushed cookie flowers to lost it in the wip stages haha, I debated doing the whole song, I love the rest of the song and how it fit their dynamics, but that would have been WAY too much work on me if I finished the song out. I unfortunately don't have the will of my "god must hate me" project anymore oops, but the song really does fit them soo well! "I'm sorry" was a perfect cut off point

What if i cried? What then? Platonic relationships almost always hit harder for me, and this hit harfer than a fucking FREIGHT TRAIN. The cape, the season skins, the flowers to represent blood/scars, the last frame! All of it! So good! I could ramble for hours about how in depth their relationships in the life series go, and how well it's all portrayed here, but i dont think i have the time lol, for now just know that this deserves to blow up, because this is genuinely one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful thing ive seen
Platonic relationships hit really hard for me since I'm aromantic and have never really experienced or bonded with romantic relationships as well as I understand platonic bonds. Friends are a really important part of my life and i've been through a lot for bad and good times. So being able to express how I feel about Desert duo in this manner makes it more relatable to myself. No matter what those two do their paths will always cross, but it crosses because they constantly chase after eachother even without knowing it. My interpration of desert duo between guilt and lonliness there is forgiveness and the want of communication that they have a hard time expressing. Thank you for your support as always! @MasterPage221 I know that feeling very well, when my best friend passed away when we were teens everyone told me to move on and get over it. All I have left of him are memories and even those are slowly fading away sadly. Barely had time to grieve and just had to keep moving on, took me 5 years to fully be over it
@MasterPage221 Yeah that also goes for my childhood friend I barely talk to her anymore and she only talks to me when I start the convo it is kind of sad looking at it seeing as we've known eachother for 20 years now. I was pretty disappointed when she showed up to my university graduation (for someone else btw) and didn't even recognize me because they called my middle name? So my first and last name didn't ring a bell to you?? crazy.
This is awesome! My two favorite shots are definitly 0:44 the softness of it all with the flowers despite the tragedy of their true meaning... And the final shot at 1:34. Wow. Just wow.

Oh the angst is terrible, this is beautiful though TT The things I particularly loved are the cookies crushing scar's flowers The cape's ribbon changing colour when Grian wins the collars for the limited lives, it's not the first time I saw that but it hits really hard Unicorn Scar is just awesome The star in one of their eye The pesky bird mask and ribbon for the lives The broken shield where Grian died (cool detail) and the fact that HE IS A SKELETON!!! So much time must have passed which make the next shot so much more sad The pile of 'win secret life' tasks and Scar's design (again), is that Pizza's carpet saddle in his outfit? That is amazing!!!!! The flashbacks being old animations, your art improved sooo much it's awesome to see it in the context of the story!!!! I probably missed a lot of stuff but that's what I wanted to point out, other than the fact I love your use of colours and your painting-like style!!!!!
