    I got a weird setup now, just got the KLH Model 5s w/ yamaha aventage 1080 and five old mirage omnisats. The old all-omnisat setup had a more forgiving sweet spot and had much more air, but having the big direct fronts puts more weight behind the midrange and bass. Soundstage is smaller, but I get a more clear image, sweet spot is no longer ginormous though. For HT, the small single omnisat isn't quite enough as a center now, but because of space constraints I can't get wide centers, so I may go with an Ohm Walsh 1000/2000 just cause I'm used to omni speaker coherency now. Sometimes you end up mix'n matching.

  • @johnlim7720
    @johnlim7720 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    It's 7.2.4 not 7.4.2....the middle number is for the subs. But if you integrate them well they will work as 1 virtual sub so it's really a 7.1.4 setup no matter how many subs you use.

    Unfortunately, I don’t have the luxury of a man cave. My 2 channel hifi has to fight for it’s right to be in our family lounge. There is an almost constant battle with the wife and daughter scrabbling for the remote control for our Panasonic OLED and me trying to dispense them both to their respective bedrooms which I’ve thoughtfully kitted out with Sky TV. So that I can enjoy my music via a pair of R11 speakers, augmented by a pair of Rel T9X subs and bi-amped with a pair of Kinki MB7 monoblocks driving the Kef’s bass drivers and a pair of Audiolab 8300 monoblocks powering the Kef’s mid and high frequency drivers.
    I recently upgraded to the R11 speakers from my former Q Acoustic speakers.
    Looks like you’ve a very nice set up there. I’m not particularly into home theatre. If I set such a system up, I could wave my rights to lounge access!
    A difficult balancing act. Catering for the wants and needs of the 2 girls in my life and my needs as a long suffering audiophile.

    Hey brother, I am in a similar scenerio as you, I currently have the Q950's and contemplating upgrading to the R11's meta for my LR. My center will be R6 meta. and side and rears R3 metas. Powered with emotiva dedicated amp, Marantz pre amp and pretty powerful sub. I am wondering for HOME THEATER movie application, was it worth to upgrade to R11s from the Q950s?? please answer, im close to ordering, some people are telling me for movies the Q950s are better?

    Greetings,
    Great video. I am wondering if you think the R2C is that much better than the current q650 center you currently own? If so why? I'm new to the KEF speaker brand, but I love them so far.

  • @nonametofame
    @nonametofame 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Congrats on the R11s. They should serve nicely as your foundation 2ch as you continue to upgrade around it. Nice job on the overall aesthetics of the room. Ideal for movie viewing, but feels cozy enough to hang out for gaming.

    I have narrowed my search for speakers to be KEF brand. But I'm not sure about which model. I was able to listen to the Q750's at Magnolia best buy. They sounded nice but figured I would like the Q950 even more. How much better are the R11's over the Q950 in your opinion? my thinking is that if I go with the 950's I can have more money for a powerful Amp to pair with the Marantz SR7015 and speakers (should add I'm planning for 4 950's as front and rear channels to match 🙂) and get 2 SVS SB16'S. Lastly which KEF center channel will be best for that setup in your opinion? Thank you in advance for your suggestion I really think I can trust your judgment.

    • @ThujanK
      @ThujanK 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My experience with the R11s have been a significant upgrade from the Q950. If you do grab the R11s, get the Kef R2C which is the matching center channel. Your front three speakers are the most important for home theatre in my experience.
      Sounds like you're going to have an awesome home theatre soon! 👌👌👌

    Hello, is there a noticeable difference between Kef Q (Q950,Q650C,Q350) vs R series (R11/R2C/R3)? I currently have a 7.2.2 setup using Rel Predator subs. 50/50 usage for movies and music. Will the R series be a worthy upgrade from the Q series?

    • @jsil36

    Such amazing front speakers with the R11’s. Overkill for HT but you listen to music and it is built for that.
    For me, i merged a separate HT and separate 2ch gear into the same space. Even though the HT LCR (Kef in walls) aren’t as good as my 2ch speakers (Spendor’s). To me, the preamp and amps (plus streamer) make such a huge difference to the 2ch experience. No receiver is good enough for my ears (I use a 7013 in my HT set up and McIntosh/PrimaLuna for 2 ch).
    I have run my HT using the Spendors (instead of the in wall Kef) as the LR and listened to 2ch with the Marantz receiver. It is very good. Much better for HT and very good still for 2ch. I value 2ch more and chase the sq more. For HT, the visuals matter more and the story/movie I am watching. Two channel is all about the sq.

  • @nirajktm

    When you have dual subs don't they give good results when they are the same? Thats what I experienced when changing from unmatched to matched subs

    • @ThujanK

      These subs have different tuning options so I can experiment with the port configuration to get them as similar as possible. Afterwards I volume match them and then run room calibration to correct for the room gain for random peaks.
      But you're correct having the same exact subwoofers does make intergration easier.

      If one is going to choose a subwoofer for music, make sure the subwoofer driver is quite small! Big driving subwoofers can't move as fast as a small driving subwoofers! Therefore cannot keep up with the stereos I've had my fair share of subwoofers,but its only when I splashed out and got some Rel subs that I realised what a true subwoofer can bring to the music!

    I have been running full range (I mean full range) speakers in a 5.2 setup in a room more than large enough room to support 7.2 but for the center seat the extra speakers seem like a waist. Really not sure.
