I pick through the bones of fellow pirates who wants some of my stolen cargo. Usually they are higher level but pay way more handsomely, I get free cargo and also I get bounties.
High tech systems. Scan nav beacon. Look for high emissions. Go collect salvage. No killing needed 😊

@@Mile13Gaming Also, you can relog with the HG emissions given enough time on the clock. You have to relog to the desktop though so it takes more time. But seriously with one HGE site with enough time (25 mins) you can max out 4 and 5's.

I don't think a high-tech economy is even necessary anymore since some patch half a decade ago. But, yeah, scanning the nav beacon reveals the HGE's in the system. They yield:
Federal systems:
Core Dynamics Composites
Proprietary Composites
Imperial systems:
Imperial Shielding
Civil Unrest faction states:
Improvised Components
War or Civil War faction states:
Military Grade Alloys
Military Supercapacitors
Outbreak faction states:
Pharmaceutical Isolators
Boom or Expansion faction states:
Proto Heat Radiators
Proto Light Alloys
Proto Radiolic Alloys
If more than one condition applies, the materials are selected randomly from the possible ones. This can make state-related mats like Pharmaceutical Isolators more tedious to acquire, particularly because the HGE needs to be inside the state affected faction's space
remember, this liner is the top 1% of all liners out there!

Nicely done! Doing it this way still makes you a better person than all of us who went the easy way and relogged on HGEs and at Jameson's crash site. Maybe those who did laps around Dav's Hope are even better. Can't wait for the video on Odyssey material gathering, where the -killings- accidents get close and personal.

I like how when I'm pirate / material hunting in an Empire system and they email me through an "onslaught contract" - I have a look of disgust and delete it.
But when I hear this plan .......... I'm making that rationalising downwards smile and stroking my chin.
My dirty secret is that my gunship doesn't have cargo hold, the pirates HATE me, but it also means my radar picture gets littered with damaged / occupied escape pods and I have to ...... errrr ......... "give them a little kick".
I just parked my fleet carrier in a high pop (fed) system with war (Lalande 8441). (...or imperial system for Imp. shielding) And whenever i get out to do anything there are high grade emissions popping up in front of me. When i go to the stations i do them, when i go to missions i do them etc. In 5 days i was full on Core dynamics components, configurable components, miitary grade alloys and proto radiolic alloys. I´m also doing passenger runs in thargoid systems (the ones with the flame), meaning tons of biotech conductors, modified embedded firmware, exq. focus crystals and many others grade 4, 3, etc. - and gazillions of credits. Then check the closest material trader and get the missing ones (pharmaceutical isolators for thusters and if needed propriety comp. for shields) No need to slaughter families :)
Just tell yourself, they all made it to the escape pods 😅
Which I then scooped up with my limpets :)

HGEs are much easier to find now or run passengers from Robigo to Sirius Atmospherics for Biotech conductors and Exquisite focus crystals to trade while making millions!
I'd love some more videos on how to do "grinds" in a less meta gamey way. No logging. Stuff like that. Might take longer to collect everything but I'm OK with that.
That's actually why I kind of like this one. It doesn't break the immersion as much as re-logging over and over.

There are also anarchy systems with mining rings. Type-9's that you can just blast to pieces without penalties.
I currently have my FC there farming for Heat Vanes. I somehow had no qualms slaughtering the ships but I did have a twinge of guilt abandoning the escape pods my drones had gathered before I set them to 'ignore'.
So, in this case violence is not the answer. It's a question. And for me, answer is fucking YES! I think I've just got a job for my Corvette))
Any advice for actually killing these things before they escape? Seems impossible with non engineered gimballed or turreted weapons. They instantly activate fsd when i get in range
Manufactured materials are NOT the problem. Scanned data and raw materials from planets surfaces are.
You can actually get data at Hot Jupiter as well by scanning the wakes of ships that, well, you don't blow up. Good thought - I should include that.

Just came off a video talking about if new players should pick up ED in 2024 and seeing this video, I knew I had to click in. I was talking about how I think the grind is a little much for a new player if they want to quickly hop into the Thargoid War. I've paused at 0:17, but I'm really hoping you're going to say that you're mercing civvie ships in systems under attack. Because if it cuts out 80 hours from the engineering/mat grind, I will reinstall and throw on my eyepatch and black flag so damn fast just so I can finally be done and actually engineer a ship for more than a like 2% performance increase.

I've been getting some good Grade 5 payouts doing AX missions over surface settlements - lots more doable since they dropped the rate of Glaive encounters. Kill a few Cyclops, chicken out when the Hydras show up... and no moral qualms squishing the murderous space bugs

You actually did it by the long method. As the developers would want players to do of course.
I have to say. I went to Hot jup recently and it simply isn't as good as dav's hope. I mean, yeah, shooting ships is fun, but at dav's hope you can fly there, go to 330 m from ground, drop limpets, and relog. It is so much more reliable than trying to find HGEs and shooting ships.
Oh totally. I've put in a few hours at Dav's Hope as well. I find Hot Jupiter breaks the immersion less since I'm not re-logging over and over. They both serve their purpose though. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

davs hope is terrible for farming. It would take ages to get enough mats for anything together. HGE is by far the fastest. I combine those with pirate massacre and hydra missions and i always have enough materials to engineer anything i need

Eh, this is just an alternative way to farm if you get bored of the other ones. It's not as efficient as HGE/Mat trader farming as far as manufactured goes. I don't even mind a little Dav's Hope every now & again when I get bored, this one seems like it could be fun for a couple minutes at least.

@Mile13Gaming I maxed out all of my eng mats for a second time doing rescues in Invasion systems, also made 10 Billion credits doing it. Seems you can get it done without a twinge on the conscience.
The game give you choice, either to be good guy, or bad guy.
That's all about your choices and favorite activities. Trying bad things doesn't make you virtual bad guy, unless you do like such type of acrivities.
All those materials could be gathered good and/or interesting ways - fighting fugitives, pirating in protected systems, looking for hi grade wrecks, vacuuming Dave's Hope.
Even Hot Jupiter slaughter is not an easy activity, you need to have some strategy.

I'm trying to get back in this game and I have to say, the materials collection for ship and space legs stuff is one of the dumbest things made in gaming.
The fact you can't go to a store and buy these materials to load up on, stuff that every NPC seems to have except you, is narrative breaking and forces you to have to perform illegal acts to obtain stuff that everyone in the galaxy collects to upgrade their own stuff. It's just dumb.
This is poor game design. It's a grind leveling mechanic based on RNG that basically makes acquiring materials in general a game of illegal loot boxing just so you can go back to playing the game.
Literally just let players buy synthesis materials at the station that stays with the ship.
Let players buy materials to upgrade their suits and weapons.
