- These titanic beasts inhabit remote islands on the world of Toril, they are easily the largest creatures alive and there are more of them than most people suspect, thankfully, they keep to themselves most of the time.

Might have to buy this one and figure out where in my world they would be. I feel like they are on a very small island for something that big with that many super-predators, but then again we have Dragons, Giants, and Rocs in our worlds so it might not be impossible either. I wonder if these things have any connection to the Giants, like the Roc and the Behir, maybe breeding super massive versions Giant Apes, Giant Moths, and Giant Reptiles to fight the Dragons? Not sure, but something to think about.
Speaking about Giant Creatures, maybe check out the following videos if you haven't already.
The Giant Slug: th-cam.com/video/NkMmq1B-34w/w-d-xo.html
The Tarrasque: th-cam.com/video/EPBRHK30Bvg/w-d-xo.html
The Empyrean: th-cam.com/video/AEcNvpX-Qvo/w-d-xo.html
I find the lack of giant turtles that can fly with rockets and are the friend to all children disturbing.
You just made me look it up
If you can 'beat up' Cthulhu you're doing Cthulhu wrong. Also great video.
How do Giants view the Humanoid Gargantua? Seems like Hill Giants would worship them, while most other Giants and Titans probably see them as abominations.
Not a Dog I was wondering the same thing!
Actually, this made me realize how little I know about Kara-Tur. If you ever feel like continuing your exploration series, a Kara-Tur primer wouldn't go amiss.
I am going to massively expand on my exploration vids this year.
@@AJPickett I'm looking forward to that!
Hmm...(takes deep breath and points finger) GODJIRA.
As long as we're writing up Godzilla for D&D, we have to at least consider the possibility of a mad wizard creating a Warforged Gargantua... That's right, it's... MECHA-GODZILLA!
How about 5 smaller, piloted constructs that can combine into a larger form? Or the same as Warforged. "Magicons! Form Acane-ator!"
Hydra + Reptile Gargantua = Ghidorah
Okay, hearing the stats listed out, and looking at the sample PDF, I have a problem. These attacks, their range, their damage, and what they can target, are too damn small. We're talking freaking Godzilla here, and even with that explanation of the 90 foot tail not being able to swing so much, I don't buy that either the bite or the tail attack would only hit one target. I see this all the time with large creatures, and it makes no sense. (Never made sense for the Tarrasque, or the larger dragons (don't get me started on how they've been shafted, their attacks don't even go up in damage relative to size) or giants for that matter) With creatures of this size it becomes hard to explain how the giant with her massive battle axe managed to only hit the one halfling among the grouped PC's, let alone how this huge lizard beast from our kaiju fantasies can target a single medium sized creature with its immense jaws. Can you imagine Godzilla looking down and biting just one dude, it would be insane. I mean even the boulder being thrown, somehow only hits one target.
Anyways, I think these kinds of attacks should be area of effect, within reach, or targeted area of effect. I homebrewed some rules like that for giants, and now every time they swing their weapons the PC's have to be on their toes, because even if they miss who they were aiming for, everybody in that area has to make a save.
I know that these are the parameters that Wizards has set using the Monster Manuel, but if you look at that book, many of the creatures don't match the requirements of their CR, and there are some things that can be much improved.
just wanted to add, like the monster, and the video, thanks AJ.
I'm sad..for I have no friends interested in dnd, and it's a four hour drive too the nearest shop....plus I'm a massive Godzilla fan and this campaign would be fun too dm.
Discord is pretty good for that, it has video chat and message boards, I have a tab for people looking for groups on mine.
16:12 Is ... Is that ... Saitama vs C'Thulu?! My money is on the Caped Baldy in ONE PUNCH!!!
But can Saitama defeat a being he can't even punch?
@@HenriFaust Monk class. His fists would count as magic weapons for the purpose of overcoming weapon resistance.
I meant in the sense that he can't even reach the being. Can he punch someone in the astral plane from the material one?
@@HenriFaust That could be an issue, but I doubt anything even an elder god could do to Saitama from that distance would have any effect. He's not stupid, but fairly apathetic.
ISLE OF NO MOSQUITOS sounds okay, until you realize it was probably named by the ISLE OF LIARS.
Wow....I thought I knew some dnd...I did not know kaiju were a hazard of the multiverse. Now to ponder how to use these things.... Thanks for another one AJ.
Absolutely love it! I can never get enough kaiju! I am actually watching Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidora: Giant Monsters All Out Attack as I write this. Thanks, AJ!
I purchased the Jakks Pacific giant Godzilla action figure in 2014 with the express purpose of using is as the “mini” for a kaiju encounter. Here’s the kicker: as large as that figure is, using the standard scale of 1 inch = 5 feet, it is still just shy of the smallest incarnation/version of Godzilla as depicted in the film series.
Ah a stat block for a literal godzilla. Blessed.
There's a couple other types of Gargantua that were introduced in early 3.5...where they just went with a Kaiju template and a few specific ones detailed there along with the Isle of Gargantua. There's a spider and turtle ones if I remember right (along with some extra that they'd put on their website at the time) along with a worked out abombination that would function as King Ghidorah included in the islands stuff.
It's in one of the Dragon Magazines that came out right after 3.5 was released and the issue contained the update rules for the Oriental Adventures book, basic stuff for setting a game in Kara-Tur, and several other things such as the Kaiju article that references that the local name for them in Kara-Tur was Gargantua.
Well, now I have to make a Great Old One Warlock with Mothra for their patron.
I think Celestial or Archfey fits better.
These things could smack a dragon out of the sky
The Dragon Magazine had an article talking about Kaiju in Dragon issue #289, Page #66. It's 3e and uses a template but it might offer some inspiration for different types of Kaiju. The article also has three of examples of Kaiju. one being, Sharugu: a giant octopus Kaiju; Hotu-Bakete: a fiery half-fiend centipede Kaiju; and Gareshona: a Bulette Kaiju.
AJ, I doubt you'll see this, but could you perhaps do a video on Pools, such as Pools of Radiance, Darkness, or Twilight? My first introduction to the Forgotten Realms was the Pools series and I would love to know more about them, if possible. Thank you so much for all of the wonderful videos
I see all. Sure Felix, I will take a look at it, it is now on my to-do list (may take a while, fair warning)

"Oh no, there goes Tokyo, go go Gargantua™ (WOOO-oooo-OOOO-oooo)"
It's called Wa because people see the Gargantua and try to yell "Watch out!" but they get eaten, stepped on, and squished before they can get out more then "Wa-".
Love the content! Nothing like stating out Godzilla for 5e.
I want to go to the isle of no mosquitos! That cracked me up seeing that on the map.
I know right? Sign me up on that expedition!
That description seems oddly suspicious to me. Like you'd show up and hear: "oh yeah, don't mind the hordes of ravenous, carnivorous bats, but hey, no mosquitoes at least, right?".

So hey, sudden thought, amongst many, is radiation a thing in DnD? Plutonium, uranium, whatnot? I don't think there's a save for that...
I would say it's just another damage type. Use it like that.
lucas voyles Eh there's this mental hurdle I can't get over where I can see a guy like "grit" past the burns and chills and zaps, but rads aren't as "friendly" as they are in like Fallout. It's more of an "I don't feel good Mr. Stark." Followed by frequent use of the word 'slough' instead of dust.
Prol ly poison
Quasi-elemental Mineral shards qualify as "radioactive". I don't remember the name of the module but bits of quasi-elemental mineral shards were the cause of mutations and sickness in the area.
Heavy emphasis on the Mutations, because this is a game where fun things are preferable to .... the alternative.
I must admit that I've never been a part of any form of D&D tho I'd love to try it out... however I still found this video to be very enjoyable! Great job sir
There shouldn't be enough food to sustain these massive creatures on such a relatively small island. I guess they must be partly sustained by magic. Or perhaps the island is somehow larger than it seems by some kind of space distorting magic?
They are surrounded by ocean, full of sea serpents.
It's Godzilla for D&D 😄
A creature that can sense ill intent , this literally means the Gargantuan has spidey senses. Imagine having a bad thought about this creature and it suddenly turns around locking you in it's gaze then charges.
So basically D&D has it's own Godzillas, Kong's and Mothras
When you want to add Godzilla to your game but don't want to buy rights.
Okay, so I think I have a plan:
We make these... Constructs, right? They'll be the same size as one of the gargantua, and we'll probably need two people to operate each one...
Alternatively, we get a lot of necromancers, and even more giant corpses
You Can (Not) Reroll
Im about to use a bunch of Modrons to create a megazord for my players to pilot
Whenever I look at the stat block of a gargantuan creature especially monstrosities, constructs, and the like, I find myself wondering why the creature is not treated as like a living structure. It just seems that it would be so much easier to convey the sheer size of a creature that big if interacting with and/or attacking it was like dealing with a building that moves. They would not need as many resistances if they had a damage threshold, and if different parts of them (i.e. head, torso, arm, etc.) had a different AC, damage threshold, and hit point pool, then bringing one down would be more of a tactical challenge despite them being big, dumb brutes.
Dose a gargantua have the strength to move an Immovable rod?
Easily, several of them at once.
@@AJPickett awesome, thanks for the info aj
I’ve been into D&D for 42 years and a fan of faerun for 35,why am I just now learning that Kara Tur has Godzillas? I’m disappointed in myself.
Frankly, I am not a huge fan of the idea, but, the lore is the lore.
They don't they have "Reptilian Gargantua" the other costs you thousands of dollars per appearance.
Okay okay we all understood that you are describing godzila
I'm apparently a little late to the party here, but I did want to say that the names of some of the other islands raise some interesting questions. The Island of No Mosquitoes, what happened there that makes the lack of mosquitoes so notable? The Island of the Long Arms and Long Legs, are the arms and legs on the same creatures, or different ones? Are they humanoid, insectoid, or something else?
Huge Godzilla fan so these are great. Will be using them.
Oh-no, they say he's got to go, go go GODZILLA!!
the background music was... goofy but actually scary xD
Oooooooh. I always loved Godzilla, and wanted to know what he was like in the wild.
I remember that there was a Gargantua type creature for d&d (basic expert companion master immortal) on the Mystera world.
RUN! IT'S GODZILLA!
I used the reptile gargantuan in my AD&D 2e game, while back. Good stuff!
As a Godzilla fan, thank you!
It's good to know that if your players get too annoying you can just put a teleportation circle in that locked room and play "Bambi meets Godzilla" with them.
Wow love the videos and I didn’t know gargantuas was a thing
These things are cool. Unfortunate that there are only three types and we don’t have official stats for them in 5E. Hope we do eventually, but we’ll have to settle for Homebrew until then.
Speaking of which, I actually put a lot of work in and did some modifying to the ones in that article to make both a different, more appropriately strong Reptillian Gargantua and The Primate Gargantua (Didn’t like how they were called Humanoid, changed the name). I wholly changed the Insectoid Gargantua though and made a few others. I event incorporated them into the lore of my own homebrew setting. I that setting, they live scattered around, usually respecting territory unless necessary but there is one of each kind that act as a sort of Alpha amongst these Apex Creatures. If each Reptillian Gargantua is like the Standard Godzilla, the Alpha Reptillian Gargantua is like Godzilla Earth. While the Gargantuas in both the article and the majority of those in the setting could be taken down by a Tarrasque (contrary to what he says), the Alpha Gargantua could routinely thrash the thing for some daily exercise before carrying on with there lives. They could likely contend with the Epic Dragons equally in terms of physical prowess and magical power. They’re the sort of beings you either focus your campaign on as you try to avert it destroying a nation or use sparingly in the background as something your party never faces. Unless they’re particularly suicidal that day and feel like going out in a blaze of glory.
Bottom line, some good lore I’m the vid, inspired me to expand on them and don’t mess with the Alphas. They’re like magical nuclear disasters given physical form and given the strongest kind of steroids.
Would love to see a fight between this and the tarrasque!
As a Kaiju fan I really enjoyed this video 😀 Would you consider doing a video on the Elder Dinosaurs of Ixalan, which were recently added to the D&D multiverse from Magic the Gathering? I’m very curious how they stack up as a whole in terms of size and power. Keep up the great work 👍🏻
So they a race of monster from Godzillas
New listener/watcher and your videos are great. Looking to start DM'ing for my kids after a decade without playing and the way you explain monsters/locations/items has given me loads of ideas. Thanks
Excellent!
@AJ Pickett Thank You - this is my new favorite video!
Great video. Gives me an idea for a game. A Krakatoa manipulates a lizard gargantua to go on civilized land and start destroying everything. The adventure would be the party tracking down something that could fight the lizard gargantua.
Finding an artifact that summons and (barely) controls a Tarrasque, which they direct at the Gargantua in a massive battle.

One Offspring per century yet constant fighting? That have to be harmless fights :(
If they're omnivorous, they don't really have much reason to fight to the death unless desperate for food. To bad enough injury to force backing down to survive, yes, but not to the death. Also, given the size, a long gestation period would be pretty much compulsory for any offspring that isn't extremely small and underdeveloped.
@@seanmcfadden3712 It would be better to kill a defeated competitor if they share the same food source. That 5:15 "fiercely territorial" seem to imply such a behavior.
