Hi AJ. So I have a Intrigue for you. I was reading about The Codex of Names and it reminded me of the Tome of Leadership and Influence. That got me thinking is this like a whole subclass of magic items and artifacts? If it is I would like a video on the topic please. Thanks for your time. : )
Alrighty here's a question. When other dragons die, their soul doesn't go anywhere right? There elemental energy just discharges within the surrounding area, making it much more infused with that element. What about a Hellfire Wyrm? If they died in the prime material would it make a little pocket of hell? Or would it just be fire? Would there spirit go back to hell and they would become a devil?
For your 1st? That usually happens unless if they perform a certain ritual during their twilight years. Involves consuming their hoard than they can go to dragon after life. To answer your other?s they are not considered true dragons according to the book that AJ quoted. So they'll go back to the 9 hell's assumingly. UNLESS killed in a certain way that would bring out their true death. Which yes it could discharge the 9 Hell energy into the material plane. What exactly happens to that energy I'd say is up to DM's ruling... but I like where you're going with this.
Was actually brewing one of these bad boys up for my next dnd.. A little back log: the dragon was birthed in the hells, kinda kept out of most long binding agreements but most certainly partook of the politics Avernus (politics being the bloodwar) and would oft track and hunt adventurers who found their way into the hells uninvited, eventually getting to know the right devils, got ahold of info on how to ascend as a great wyrm, and has since been a warlock patron to the current bbeg of my game (whom is in the material plane travelling with the party looking for something particular for the dragon) that would basically get her free of avernus to take over, through might or sleight, a generous chunk of my homebrew world map. The dragon has long sense grown tired of the law and nuances of the devils, and wishes to exercise her powers as chaotically as red dragons are want to, with a band of followers and a plethora of infernal favors. Now though, thanks to this video, i can fully realize the beast ive created lol

@ because they were too high. They got so ridiculous in 3.5ed that you couldn't kill anything. So the solution was to give epic levels to the PCs which broke the game
@@staticcharm3808 to be fair there should be things that no mortal being should be expected to be able to beat without the direct aid of deities, devil lords, outsiders etc... or at least their artifacts which would debuff or counter said beings. A good DM would do that instead of just adding epic levels.
Question, is it possible for a mortal being to love battle so much, they willingly sign there soul off to become a devil to fight in an eternal blood war?
In Fizbans Treasury of Dragons there was added lore about the creation of greatwyrms, dragons who absorb their variants from other material worlds from the other editions. Hellfire dragons are born in the nine hells and evolved from red dragons. Is there a version of the nine hells for each material plane so a Hellfire Greatwyrm could exist or is there one shared among them meaning there is only one version of the dragon and this no ability to become a greatwyrm.
@@AJPickett true, I was working from it. I was just curious if each version of the material plane had it's own version of the nine hells but seeing as Sardior created dragons "echoes" in the material planethat wouldn't work. My other thought was to have a mage like Sammaster create Simulacra of the dragon to feed on souls to become fully formed beings like the simulacrum of Acererak near the soul monger. Are there other ways this could be done like the soulmonger?
@alexbreeze4978 there's only one hell for the multiverse, but each layer of that hell is infinite. Same with other outerplanes, abyys, heaven, hades, etc
Two things; What would happen with other species of dragons should they be raised in hell, like a blue dragon, or hell, a silver dragon, which are usually good? Second, I imagine this could be done for all the other planes of existence as well. I think I found my next dragon project!
Compare the red dragon to the hellfire, and subtract the similarities. Apply what's left over to any other dragon type, and use your best judgement to flavor it correctly... then consider the alignment difference and personality differences, and use your best judgement to fix any glaring contradictions. That should get you pretty close.
When considering good dragons for this, I would look at the evolution of nightmares from pegasi, and apply the characteristic differences to your dragons personality, considering how the evolution might be different for such a powerful apex creature.
Thank you soooooooooooo much! I had requested this video awhile back and just became a member only to find this. You are the best! May the power of Vecna be with you always.🍀👊
I made a counterpart back in the day the Blessed Rain Wyrm. haha it was an epic dragon surrounded by a constant downpour that shut down fire damage within its radius and did constant damage to evil beings within the aura's area so in its presence evil quite literally washed away. Still noting will compare to the prismatic dragon. Ahaha.
Ive been curious about these, I sort of half threatened my group with one when they were in hell a while back but all I really had on these were the stats. Now I might use one again, armed with this info.
Normal red dragon. Dragons attune to their surroundings. A red dragon born in the shadowfell will be shadow dragon, but that same egg hatched in the prime material plane will turn out to be a normal chromatic dragon. In the same way an egg from 2 hellfire dragons hatched in the prime material plane won't have the hellish surroundings to attune to, and thus be born a standard dragon.
I would say it depends on how long it was incubated in which area and if there was any magics trying to prevent, or help that. Not every dragon born on the shadow fell/negative energy plane becomes a shadow dragon. That factoid is part of the Deep Dragon's story.
I can only teleport to places I've already been and even then only one place that I've anchored myself to you so I don't know if it goes on forever or not

Is there vampire dragons?
That would be sick
Yes, apparently they do exist, just look for search for 3e Vampiric Dragon.
Edit note: it's 3e not 5e sorry!
@@frostdragonking5336 hope we get a video 🦄
Yes to many types of undead dragons, even !
Hi AJ.
So I have a Intrigue for you. I was reading about The Codex of Names and it reminded me of the Tome of Leadership and Influence. That got me thinking is this like a whole subclass of magic items and artifacts? If it is I would like a video on the topic please.
Thanks for your time. : )
Noted!
Very cool video I’ve never heard of Hellfire Wyrms until now!! Thanks AJ :)
Best one makes me want to play my hellfire wyrm again with a bit more knowledge
I remember half their breath damage used to be negative energy, not fire. Is that still the case? I guess it would be necrotic now?
Not as far as I could see.
Another wonderful video, I am rather enjoying our journey into the nine circles.
Looking forward to the weredragon video mentioned awhile back
Song dragon video. Also, rare dragon breeds video.
@@AJPickett thank you good sir. Could of sworn I watched both of those.
Consider themselves master of both the living and dead realms? would love to see what a shadow dragon may have to say about that.
imagine what would great wyrm time dragons think
@@lorekeeper685 Probably something like get off my lawn you bunch of brats

Thx... also typical
What would be the stat block of a great wrym hellfire dragon?
Solid video. This wyrm is an absolute unit. Thanks again
Hmmmmm .......
Hellfire wurm > Abyssal drake???
Doing a "road trip of the planes", just curious between these
2 which will ruin my adventuring parties day more 🤔🥴😁
Hell yeah! My favorite dragon, keep up the good work
Damn these guys seem nasty!
Is there any 5e stats for them?
Aside from the notable changes I described, just use the Red Dragon stats.

AJ when my Graphic Novel is nearly finished I'm going to give you a shout out in the back of the book just because you did this video man. Your the 1st person to so a video on my favorite Dragon which will be in the book series. Mahalo Aloha and keep the dice rolling my friend.
20th level spellcaster?!
lol yep I'm out. Not that any other part of the hellfire wyrm is less intimidating, but the extra oomph from their spells is a huge NOPE!
More, ty aj 💓
Ah he hellfire wyrm... CR was higher an Aspect of Asmodeus back in 3.5 if I remember correctly.
Was it? I have Fiendish Codex 2 here but not... MM2 that the Hellfire Wyrm was in.
Damn. when you said that tiefling was charismatic, you weren't lying.
Awesome videos mate! Could you do a video on loulaum the lich elder brain?
Hellfire sounds terrifying and is this a Red Dragon or a subspecies?
Sub-type
Good video AJ
I keep forgetting that you live in Kirkland when you post in late night.
There must be other chromatic variants in the Baator i would be very interested to learn about them aswell maybe even metallic variants
Great video right before work!
Can you please do Abyssal dragons or deathmask dragons
Question, is it possible for a mortal being to love battle so much, they willingly sign there soul off to become a devil to fight in an eternal blood war?
Yes
Doesn't even has to be a devil, get creative.
Fizbans is optional
What would happen if you hatch a dragon egg in the abyss?
Everyone dies.
@@AJPickett hahaha good one
Thank you.
Great video
Nice, just in time for me to fall asleep to!
If a hellfire dragon were to lay eggs on the prime material plane, would they be normal red dragons or be hellfire dragons also?
Normal red dragon. Dragons attune to their surroundings. A red dragon born in the shadowfell will be shadow dragon, but that same egg hatched in the prime material plane will turn out to be a normal chromatic dragon. In the same way an egg from 2 hellfire dragons hatched in the prime material plane won't have the hellish surroundings to attune to, and thus be born a standard dragon.
@@synmer7104 Oh yeah. That answer does make sense
I would say it depends on how long it was incubated in which area and if there was any magics trying to prevent, or help that. Not every dragon born on the shadow fell/negative energy plane becomes a shadow dragon. That factoid is part of the Deep Dragon's story.
Hellfire is red, so? Hellfrost(white), hellbolt (blue), what are black and green called? Hellwood(green) and Soulmelter (black)?
i call dibs on soulmelter as my metal band name
Soulsmelter is my bet
@@ethanbowe8819 but you don't smelt with acid lol edit, love the name for an infernal metallic dragon
frost ones should be called Stygian dragons, as the Stygia realm of cold and ice. there is also Cania, but Stygian sounds much cooler

20th level spellcaster... giving them class levels as a sorcerer would be kind of the default I guess but considering their role & that they'd be working for a superior having them set up as a warlock seems more appropriate, or potentially a favoured soul could be very, very nasty
Quite possible that they would be Warlocks in pacts with the Lords of the Nine Hells.
@@AJPickett I'd find some way to give them some very potent ice magic. Which is a trick that I worked in to a couple of Red Dragons that I created, for fun.. Maybe through a pact with Levistus? Or any number of other chilly entities! I'd think that it'd be common for highly intelligent dragons, to have some suprises waiting for any challengers. Hell! Why not have an few adult (or older,) White Dragons, subdued, and acting as sentries for a Red Dragon? If Frost Giants can bully White Dragons in to serving them, then a Red Dragon certainly could.
yesssss more more i need more
So, basically a red dragon turned into a warlock
I wanna throw some of these in to Decent into Avernus
