A very sad fact: the ending animation of each episode represents seven’s dream of having fun at the beach with the friends he made along the way. This is made clear in ep 9 in the dream he had where everyone was thanos snapped out of his memory. Also the ep 9 ending has a song called “seven” by clockwork moon and when you examine the lyrics, it is about seven’s personal views on his current situation and the journey he has had until now. Seriously, the ep 9 ed is just pure emotional genius
agreed, although there were moments where the show would make time for some comedic relief towards the end of the season things do get a lot more serious.
It also reflects Seven's life perfectly. In the first season, Seven have no memory and there is nothing to worry about so the tone is heavily focus on comedy. The world is limited on chicken island too because that is all Seven know. But with Seven's dark past catching up the more his memory come back, the tone get more serious and the world get expand past the tiny island too.
I honestly love the fact that the opening just looks more serious every new season as seven slowly learns more about his past and as his life gets much more chaotic
Man i dont know how this show doesn't have more recognition. its got a perfect balance of action, comedy, sadness, romance, and the plot is phenomenal considering its based around a young teenager and a talking chicken. The uniqueness of the show shines through to the audience to convey a somehow relateable portrayel of personality and emotions. The animation is absolutely fantastic, the english dub is great, the characters are balanced to be somewhat silly and badass at the same time, the creativity of the different abilities of each character. The character i noticed that portrayed this development was red tooth, he was so badass, an awesome concept completed to perfection. I love how the show teaches family values, encourages helping others, and it gives a nod of nostalgia to old cartoons, yet demonstrates a goofy yet mature storyline. The development of several of the characters, the fact that they have each others back, it is just fantastic. Even the intros for each season especially 2 and 3 have been unskippable. The ability that the show has to form a bond with the characters is absolutely phenomenal, as someone whos just starting watching anime, i just want more, and by the looks of the ending of season 3, thats what we'll receive.
It has the best pacing in all of anime. 90% legit content to 10% silly filler. Second best "character investment" (Interest by the viewer in individual characters and their whereabouts) and variety next to Arcane. We need more of this. Stop giving lazy studios your money and views!
I’m back after a long time This guy reads his comments even when there’s so many? Underrated TH-camr talking about an underrated show! Honestly, this show is so funny near the beginning but it’s plot is even more amazing near the end, and yeah, I cried, don’t judge me… I can’t wait for a new season (if there is one, I’m assuming there is going to be as the series ends on a cliffhanger.) Edit: Yeah, no kidding, the intro DOES fucking slap!
Haha welcome back! Thanks for the kind words i seriously appreciate it! Scissor seven needs a higher rep cuz its just so fucking good and i wont rest until it does. Thanks for watching my friend❤
By the way, the ending in the season 3 change in some more dark episodes. It shows dark clouds and raining and everything feels different, I think it is a really nice touch. ah! and good review! take my like!
Oh, it’s really awesome hearing that you enjoy Scissor Seven! It’s a little too bad hearing your thoughts on the original Chinese voice acting, as I feel like it undermines the Chinese voice actors a bit to call it “just okay.” The Chinese voice acting is a little softer than the English, but personally it feels a lot more natural than the English dub to me (the English dub still carries that classic dub thing where the voice acting feels a bit stilted at times, which isn’t a fault of its own; it just seems to occur with dubbing as a practice). Scissor Seven’s Chinese voice acting is actually a bit…rougher around the edges than even most other donghua, but not in the way it’s “bad.” It’s just designed to be a bit grungier, especially since they let a lot of the voice actors’ accents shine (China has a lot of dialects, so sometimes people’s Mandarin will sound different from one another). Certain moods may be less obvious as a result, if you don’t know Mandarin-although that’s just a potential hypothesis. I do also greatly appreciate the detail of having Seven’s current self speak in Mandarin, while his past self speaks in Cantonese. Netflix has some behind-the-scenes videos on the making of the donghua, and the director mentions how they stumbled upon this decision (he also happens to voice Seven!). It’s actually funny to me because as someone who can understand basic Chinese, the Chinese voice acting feels quieter and even sometimes less…crass, than the English. And you know I’ve grown up being told often by not-so-great people that Chinese is a harsh, cacophonous, loud, obnoxious, ugly language…so I’m glad that donghua and Chinese audio dramas are now changing that perception. That being said, while I personally watch the Chinese original over the English dub, I can definitely see the latter’s appeal too! The cast is a strong one, and I know a _ton_ of Scissor Seven fans really like the English dub. It’s actually kinda hard to find Mandarin clips for the show on TH-cam because of that. 😂 Having watched a number of donghua and listened to multiple audio dramas now, I can say that Chinese voice acting is stronger than some people say, but here’s to it growing further. And also here’s to it one day being better appreciated as well, the way voice acting is for Japan and the west! But yeah, it was really awesome seeing a review for Scissor Seven! The show’s objectively one of the best donghua out there right now, and it’s too bad it’s still somewhat underrated, so it’s always nice when it gets featured in non-Chinese/non-Asian circles. 💪
I don't use Netflix. Is there another site where I could watch the bts videos? I want to hear the director's explanation for why he decided to have him speak Cantonese as his past self. It was such an excellent decision. I always get a little hyped up when he starts speaking in full Cantonese.
Nvm I found the video on YT on the Netflix Anime channel haha. Titled "Scissor Seven's Creative Process | Behind the Scenes | Netflix Anime" for anyone else who might be wondering.
Loved Scissor Seven. The first few episodes I thought were funny but wasn't that special until I got to the episode with the Underpants Enthusiast. That was the episode that caught my attention to watch more of it with how good they made that simple message, yes he has a strange interest but he isn't hurting anyone and doesn't deserve to die because of his passions. Then as more episodes went by, I loved that episode with the girl who wanted to die because she was suffering from cancer. Season 2 and Season 3 of course really made this series amazing as well as callbacks to previous characters and their continued story development. When I realized it was made from China (or Taiwan) I thought it was a really special Anime-like series.
Will scissor seven ever have a 4th season? Because it left off on seven pretty much dying but it could be continued i love the funny aspect but having another action packed season would be so good
Hey man I love scissors 7 season 2 but come on you got to be honest season 1's animation was awesome as well I mean cuz it gives like a sense of art even though it's not perfect but it's truly is something it's pretty beautiful it's less digitalized which makes it more organic then season 2 when season 3 not saying their animation is bad or not saying they're not organic too but season 1 gives you like an animation which is it makes you feel some type of way
If you watched it on netflix i hope you didn't just let it auto play throughout. At the end of every episode in season 1 they show some extra stuff at the very end of the episode. I think they did it for the other seasons as well but not as much. It is interesting that they did it to give you a more clear part in the story. The world building is great as they take you from this island to other islands that exist. While also telling a story for each island they are on. Like how the cat that plays his gutair was looking for the beautiful people island only to be on a island with people that are ugly because of a guy who isn't as beautiful as the others on the island. I like that it shows us that he made it to the island even though the last time you seen him was in season 2 after trying to kill mad bark. It's great to see that everyone has value in scissors seven.
