The Merchant. The Jubilee. The George Hotel, were all managed by Robert Waring Blackshaw, at some point in his life. His younger Brother, Thomas, was chair of Blackburn Rovers, from 1956 - 1960. My mother was born to Annie Sharples, daughter of Robert. And was born at the George Hotel, Darwen st.
It wasn't that long ago, that this town was noted for the amount of drinking establishments it offered, How sad the town is fast becoming a completely different town, Through its diverse communities, many non drinkers and fierce religious zealots ,can't think of a better word right now, who look upon those drinking establishments as demonic, dens of Iniquity.(excuse the miss spelt word) if it is, So in effect, over time, there wont be one single pub in this town, It may be some time off just yet, But its coming , make no mistake.and not just this town, Sorry I cannot be more optimistic, But I sense I will be proved right in time.
