I play the bagpipes myself and have done so for over 20 years. It's wonderful to see how Broadley managed to carve out a new name in the bagpipe world, and I wish him all the success he can get. It’s built on excellent craftsmanship and a genuine love for the bagpipe.
However, I can’t help but notice that the video says, that his career ended because he had an accident that ruined his birl finger (the pinky). I wonder if anyone ever tried switching hands. Normally, you play the birl with the pinke on your right hand, while the pinky on your left hand isn’t part of the usual fingerings. So, one could potentially switch hands and use the left pinky as the birl finger. This comment isn’t a criticism or an attack, far from it, but rather a thought on finding possibilities and solutions in times of crisis. There are ways to change both the fingering and the holes in the chanter.
I hope you don't take this the wrong way. I'm writing this with a big smile on my face, and I'm excited to follow this new brand. I love the bagpipe - otherwise, I wouldn't have taken the time to write this.
