Bagpipes make me emotional. They could play Happy Birthday and I will cry. Not 1 cell in my body is remotely close to being Scottish but when I hear them, my heart is Scottish and I fall apart. They connect humankind in a magical way. Truly, the power of music at work.
my scottish father said the bagpipes appeal to the emotions which is true it can make you sad or melancholy,happy or inspired,the english used this to great affect when they combined english drums with scottish pipes enabling different ethnic groups to unite on long marches of boredom solidifying unity and inspiring the men to battle and then to lament the dead

E to. My late father was a piper in Newcastle, Australia. Y early years were spent around pipe bands. On his last birthday I organised a lone piper to plays at his nursing home. The tears flowed from everyone.
Of course they do, who doesn’t get chills and a lump in their throat when you hear them coming and all that fabulous regalia and accoutrements. Just fabulous.
It makes you feel your roots.

As an American, listening to that brings me to tears. How proud you must be.
Working in construction I was lucky enough to hear the pipes in several postings. East London UK The Dagenham Girls Pipers. Three days after moving in an apartment in Slagelse, Denmark An International Pipe Competition held 300m from my window's I had to go investigate.
Sarnia Ont Canada met the Drum Major of The Michigan Police Pipe Band while having a beer and got invited to go watch them march in Michigan. Can't get away from the wonderful sound of the pipes.

I was on a war graves tour in France a few years ago on remembrance day. We were laying wreaths, the morning was quiet misty, very faintly we could hear the pipes playing at one of the other cemeteries which was quite far away. The most eerie sound.

I am wondering about the different color uniforms. Is there significance behind the different tartan patterns? Asking from US.
@syoung1908 hi there yea different tartan represents clans and names here in Scotland and different regiments also of our military before it was changed to the Royal regiment of Scotland which obviously is now one colour we had like the black watch or royal Highland or kings own Scottish Borders so before the change to now just the Royal regiment of Scotland there were many different tartans in our military but there are i think hundreds of tartans representing family names here in Scotland and clans i not sure how many but its a lot hope this helps you understand the reasons behind all the different colours 🏴

@syoung1908 there is lots of history attached to the wearing of the tartan it was banned by the English back in the days they tryed to take our identity but we knew that would never happen 😉 🏴

Even before I knew I was Scottish, Irish and English I've loved the sound of the pipes and drums.
Thank you for posting this video. I'll never be able to travel to see this In person. I don't know why I get incredibly emotional when the pipes show up.
Once heard 100 pipes playing "Amazing Grace" @ a Scottish games event. It reverberated through the ground & literally made me cry it was SO beautiful !!

My heart stirs whenever i hear the pipes and drums...i can enjoy an orchestra, can even enjoy a Mexican mariachi band (for a short while), but the pipes, the pipes and drums...if ye dinna understand, ye aint Scots!

I had The privilege of living in Edinburgh for 10 years, it’s the most beautiful city in the world and countryside around it. It’s fantastic and a beautiful little beach as you can visit it’s stunning

I love the sound of the bag pipes. I ALWAYS cry when i hear them. The drone goes straight to my heart and i feel soo proud to be Scottish. My late papa was nearly blind and profoundly deaf near the end of his life, because he worked in Fairfield Ship Yard ,Govan, man and boy. The tremendous noise made him deaf. But when he heard the sound if the pipes, I swear he puffed up with such pride. The pipes have held many good memories for me.🏴🏴💟

I marched in an American Para-Military Pipe Band for 25 yrs with some of Scotland/Canada's best military bands in the world... Proudest & best moments in my life.
What does para-military mean here? Do mean a regular pipe band that uses military style uniforms?
@damionkeeling3103 That is correct. We were a U.S. civilian bagpipe band that marched in authentic Canadian 'hand-me-down' uniforms. Because of this, we followed Canadian military protocols, in every way possible... Rank, marching, salutes, music, etc... We were known as the "First Highland Watch".

Born and raised in Dunedin, FL sister city to Sterling, Scotland. Our junior and senior high schools, and City of Dunedin Pipe Band make us proud all the time with their pipe and drum playing.

The entire kilted marching band stole the show, best for last. Very skilled! They were so crisp and clean in unison. Drummers were impressive! Nobody plays tenors over there? The clear pipes were heard long before they came into sight. Thank you! ❤

Old Scot living in Australia I'm 73 and the pipes always make the hairs on my neck stand to attention.
The pipers always steal the show. My dad is Scottish and I have his side of the family that lives in Scotland. Always a joy to come up from England and visit them. I love whisky so much so you can imagine what I get up to when I’m up there 😂. That’s must be my dad’s side in me.
I was in Edinburgh Scotland in 1979 in the US Navy. We pulled into the Port nearby. I visited Edinburgh Castle. I traveled to Falkirk by train. At the time I didn't know it was where the famous battle took place. On the train going through the countryside it was the greenest grass I've ever seen in my life. I loved the country and the people, it was beautiful. I've been fond of the bagpipes ever since. (Edit) whoever filmed this and posted this thank you. It's awesome.

There were two battles of Falkirk. The first in 1298 during the Wars of Independence, the second in 1746 when the retreating Jacobite army defeated government forces, the latter was the penultimate battle on British soil.

Grew up in Edinburg, Texas, mother grew up in McLeanan County, Texas, Grandmother's maiden name was Ramsey. Scotland the Brave and the Texas Aggies War Hymn says it all.

Have the pipes stolen the show? Yes, yes they have. As an American, I have been lucky to attend the Royal Military Tattoo twice (2022 & 2024) and I was wowed by the pageantry and beautiful music. But when the Massed Pipes & Drums play Scotland the Brave, I feel it in my soul.
My wife, Drum Major Colleen McMillin Wilson, also performed in 2022 as a "flourishing drum major." She was one of four who shared the spotlight during the Tattoo month.
Nothing more moving and inspirational. Of course.

The entire entourage of the various groups marching and playing their instruments was very well done and fun to watch and listen to. However, as a Canadian and with my Scottish heritage, the pipes put a lump in my throat and they give me goose bumps, simply beautiful. 🙏🇨🇦
