It is amazing how new these vids are compared to age of machine not to mention how clean it is. Hard to kill a Honda.

Should always make sure you can open the fill plugs before drain plugs while doing maintenance so you don't drain it and not be able to refill.

Good advice. If you Can't refill it, even the old oil is better than nothing.
And then you have time to get stuff together to redrill another fill hole.
It happens all the time on jeeps. People drain their T-Case and can't refill it.
      GREAT VIDEO!
You are a Life Saver my friend!
Really, gonna get 20 more years outta big blue because of you. Thanks man.
      God Bless you and Yours.

I found the original manual online and took pictures and while it says to use sae 80 in the front and rear differentails, it says to use 10w 40 in the transfer case.

You could fill the rear final with some diesel fuel and run it for a bit then drain it. Wotks great.

Thanks for the video, grnadpas 1994 fourtrax still has orignal gear oil in the front dif and transfer case and the oil looks spotless for beining original. I did change the rear diff oil because ot had a new reardiff put on it and it was just broke in.

Good video. Helped me to know where the plugs are on a fourtrax i just purchased. Would have been helpful to know what size sockets you used everywhere but good job.

I have a 1999 as well...mine is a 2wd, so no transfer case or front dif...I'd love to do a 4x4 conversion on it though...that would rock!

My advice .yes you can convert to 4x4. Dose it kick ass? Yes .. do you really need 4x4??? Cuz it's a whole other bunch of $hit to fix when things go wrong... And they will no doubt.

Buddy your supposed to use the same oil you use for the engine in the transmission of those. The front and rear only get 80 90.. it kinda matters I learned the hard way.

@@daveraymond2265 I'm replacing a transmission as soon as FedEx will comply. Thought my only problem was rear diff so bought 100%new rear end got it apart and hello there's a hole in my trany case.... $320 for diff n axel/hubs nuts $60 more for the transmission. Can't even find a brand new one....

thanks. very helpful. but rule #1... particlularly on older machines. remove the fill plugs FIRST before draining. no way to get fluid back in if you cant get it out and whatever is in there is still bettter than nothing at all!

The transfer case needs 10w40 engine oil NOT 80w hypoid gear oil.

Not to sound like a know it all, or knocking your work. But synthetic engine oil should not be used in these bikes, because it will cause the wet clutch to slip.

I would have filled it up with paint thinner, went for a 5 mile ride and then drain it over night.

A 20 minute video that s/h lasted just five minutes VERY BORING...you didn't always state what metric size socket you used on the drain plugs or filer caps. I give you a D- on a scale of A to F.
