40] ACRYLIC POURING Technique - Stretched Swirl with Many Colors - Fluid Acrylic painting

  • Using the swirl technique (or tree ring) and creating a simple, beautiful look by moving the cup as you pour. Have you ever wondered what would happen if you moved the cup while doing this type of dirty pour. I sure did and finally tried. I loved the result and the potential it has for gorgeous pours that beginners and experts alike can create.

    = PAINTS and MIXING
For this painting I used all Artist's Loft paint from Michael's :
    Brilliant Magenta
    Turquoise
    Yellow Ochre
Neon Green (mixed with a bit of white and one drop of black)
    Flow Acrylic White
= This is my usual formula for all the paint including the white negative space paint :
    - 1 - 2 parts paint to 4 parts Floetrol
    - I then add a little water if necessary to get my paint to be the consistency of really warm honey, or like heavy cream. The amount of water will depend on the type of acrylic paint you used ... Flow acrylic (runny like house paint) will need very little water if any, while medium to heavy body paint (thick like toothpaste) will need more water. Try to limit the amount of water that you use ... too much will break down the binding properties of the acrylic paint. How much is too much? Try to keep the amount of water under 50% of the amount of paint.
This painting did not require silicone or dimethicone.
    = SEALING
Once my paintings dry, I spray them with a low odor, user-friendly, crystal clear, museum-quality varnish designed for acrylics, oils and watercolors. It gives a glossy finish.
    Here is a link: amzn.to/2jGh3KO
When I want to spray a matte/satin finish instead, I use this: amzn.to/2fvgYF0
This was done on an 8 x 10 canvas panel.
Thank you in advance for watching the videos, sharing them, commenting and leaving a thumbs up. Your kindness helps my channel continue and it is all greatly appreciated! May the alcohol inks, resin, and paints be kind, and may the pours be with you. 😊💕

Okay I love it right there at 3 minutes and 50 seconds right after you got finished pouring it all out! That is what I do free hand with my watercolorwhen I drop the color onto a wet multimedia sheet and watch it just bleed out and then I dropped even more color and more color until they are merging and swirling and then I take pigma micron pens after the watercolor has driedI line art it I use all kinds of zentangle line art to define or add to whatever I see in the flow of dried paintand what you just did right there at the beginning is the effect I try to get by breaking the pieces apart and first doing the color and then letting it dry and then coming back a week later and grabbing up a bunch of them and doing the line art on each one so what you did there you're accomplishing in one fell swoop what I have to do separately but I love it that gave me a lot of inspiration!

I was thinking of an old Windows screen saver I used to have on my desktop (back when dinosaurs roamed the earth) ... It had these intertwining spirally worm things... I couldn't stop thinking about that as I was doing this pour. I will so have to try that on a larger canvas. I'm going to try mastering stretching the swirl AS I pour because if "worms" go in all different directions tilting it would be challenging without some of them getting messed up. A maze would be AMAZING... (Ha... See what I did there 😄) ... I will be sketching all day tomorrow I'm sure! Thank you for your creative thoughts!

I love the way you talk through what you are doing, how you show your thought process. I appreciate your willingness to show that you don't "have it all together" in every pour; how you are willing to work with what happens unexpectedly. LOVE the colours too! :)

The hope is to make this fun and not scary for everyone ... fumbles are kinda fun in this medium so the periodic challenges are usually welcome! 😄 Thank you for this warm, lovely comment Adelaide-delvi ... I truly appreciated it!

I agree completely... I kept thinking of the snuffaluffagus (sp?) as I was tilting him. It was hard not to smile! Thank you Sherrie!

I agree. An elephant was the first thing I thought of. Then I was thinking "seahorse" after some of the tilting.

    Two things:
    1. You have the most soothing voice of all the youtuber's I follow! It's relaxing and so calming to listen and watch your videos! I watch you as I'm winding down at night. It's reminiscent of Mr. Rogers. Just happy, soft and positive. That's a great gift you have in addition to your art.
    2. I wish you could go back in time on this video to 4:25 and then not move the painting anymore. It's a perfect elephant! All you needed was to add the ears and add dimension to his eye. If you were to turn the canvas counter-clockwise by one side, you'll see it. Gorgeous rainbow elephant with a yellow/green eye!!

Oh my gosh, thank you very much Donna... That is wonderful to hear (especially because for much of my life I didn't like my voice 😄.) I'm so happy I come across in an approachable way... My hope is that people afraid to play with paint will be more inclined to try after watching a couple of videos.
About the pour, I often wish I could have two identical pours... One I leave barely touched and the other I alter to my heart's content. I so often love earlier versions of a pour as much as how it ends up. I totally see the elephant and have to admit to missing it too. 😊
Thank you again for your kindness. May the paints treat you well. 😊💕🎨
