@five4orever The fence has a dual role I think. To protect the site from unwanted intrusion and to keep out vandals. I`ve tried with authorities in the UK and they immediately quote `health and safety` which is the standard cop-out employed by many authorities in the UK.
(Alan).... Talking of Roman ghosts Chris. I was telling Eddie about something my sister was telling me. She lives just off the A.140 in Norfolk....Friends of theirs recently found a skeleton while digging for a swimming pool. Archaeologists are now investigating.... Apparently a few years ago their children both saw the ghost of a woman dressed in a toga, with a young child, while playing in the garden ......Spooky Eh ?
@VideoDude87 That`s always a good point, but I feel they can `read` our thoughts as emotional energy rather than language or dialect. But as an added thought, on three occasions now I have captured EVP which can be either male or female, but it repeats word for word what I am saying, and literally as I am saying it. Therefore I can only think that they are reading these words directly from my mind and with that my thoughts. Just a thought really.
Roman soldiers believed in life after death, that a kind of supreme divinity could be sought, so this might explain why the Roman ghosts return to their place of death as a source of affirmation that divinity has reached. Another reason they return to their graves are that traumatic death may have left the physical self at odds with the soul at time of death, the ghost unable to pass through other dimensions of time and space?. x
@CJLinton That`s always a bone of contention. I was once contacted by a Mersea resident who gave an account of him seeing this ghost. What is clear is that the Romans occupied the island and being the good road builders they were, I`m sure something else would have been in place before the Anglo Saxons. Currently only evidence of the Saxons work exists, but it could quite more logically be built over a Roman crossing point. I just cannot imagine the ingenious Romans not having a crossing point.
Sonia Ismael If it is a prehistoric mound; it became part of the defences in WWII. The whole country is littered with simile of these. Fortress Britain concrete is everywhere. Mersea island had an initial strategic value to the potential invasion force. It was heavily defended, the pill box positions and trenches are dotted all around. Many now are blocks in the water on the shore.
We were flying a light aircraft over this burial barrow recently. When I told my fellow pilot the story of the Roman ghost he became nervous! We headed south to Salcott over Devils Field. Same reaction. Some locals are very nervous about these locations!! John.FAI/BGA 51417.
@CJLinton Not with you. I said on a thread that I have on occasions recorded on camera my voice being replicated as I speak either in a male or female voice and obviously not in an area that would echo my voice. Are you suggesting the EVP from this video is my voice echoing?
the Roman soldiers were cruel and most of them were moved to an unknown place, he could be just an imprint in time, because of the possibility of him going through there many times!
Mersea Museum web site has some nice pictures of inside the tomb and the lead burial box which contained a perfect glass urn with the cremated bones inside it. The bits of bone were covered in a mixture of frankincense and pine resin. Very expensive. I wonder if they put a mound on top just to please the primitive locals.
Wow. Britannia's own mini version of the Catacombs & no one is allowed to see it . That is a shame. It's very intriguing & would be great to see a visit in the dead of night.
Really interesting, Chris. I hope you do get the chance to investigate further. Like the EVPs. It's a pity they locked it up, but you can understand them wanting to keep vandals out.
@000CODE000 I`ve kept them at MP4 simply because it would take many hours to upload them and YT has a habit of crashing with bigger files unfortunately.
This video reminds me of the Sutton Hoo burial mound. Check out TH-cam user Ghostwatching's video Sutton Hoo Treasure Ghosts. One lady claimed to see Roman soldiers guarding the mound. Maybe this Roman soldier is guarding the area. Unfortunately, I do not know how to attach the Sutton Hoo video to this one.
It really is a beautiful location, Chris. It's too bad things are locked up; maybe if you ask them, the caretakers/owners would consider allowing you and your team to do a nighttime investigation, when there's less traffic and what not... Excellent work, my friend. Thanks for sharing it. :)
@CJLinton That is the point I answered. I wasn`t in any location that could echo my voice, and these `echoes` last one sentence but not longer, and were male or female.
@CJLinton Good points again. But your point above on climate may have answered that. In any case, in order to support or refute Roman work you would have to find evidence of it. But if the Romans used similar building techniques as the Saxons it would be hard to differentiate them. A bit like what came first, the chicken or the egg:)
Would have been great if the site owners could have granted the investigators a one off night tour, even if the event supervised to ensure no criminal damage to the mound top etc. Capturing the female voice however, validates the fact that a lot of ghostly activity present there. Roman soldiers believed in life after death - a divinity can be sought in life ending and why these apparitions often visit their own graves possibly?
i live on mersea and i have heard of the ghost on the strood (causeway) but i haven't heard of the place you went to, where is it ??? Chris Halton - Haunted Earth tv
HMMMMM! YEP! " AVE" MEANS GREETINGS IN LATIN . MY FAVOURITE " ANCIENT LANGUAGE ! I STUDIED IN THE EAST IN A CONVENT SCHOOL ! THE ROMAN & GREEK ERA HAD A FASCINATION AS A YOUNG CHILD. THANKS FOR "THE GHOST STORY" FROM, U.K. (2024).
Sir, you should have considered bringing someone with you that couls speak latin or one of the roman-italic dialects, and not english. I know whatvi am talking about. Great video and great place, though.
Its amazing, I see a Big Man in a Hood beating the life out of another Man on his back, in an eternal struggle, because they are in Spirit, possibly a Druid fighting a Roman. Even able to communicate through the Video.
A real shame that you keep getting this nightmare, ie: locked out & a lot of NO from people who for what ever reason don't want you to film. You do have to wonder about some people & how they think.....if at all LOL. Another great vid & piece of history, pity that you couldn't get access...I wonder will Time Team ever do a dig there?! Cheers.
You know Chris with dealing with Archaeologist there is a chance you could find an ally in your work. Maybe someone to get you in. I've heard of many atheists archaeologists being changed from their experiences while working on a dig.
Intresting place but why would a ancient crypt dating back to the Roman times would have a spirit speaking modern english when the only languges that I know that would of existed at the time around there would of been Latin, Celtic and a few dielects of german
@Constantine99999 LOL! Bring it! I can see that in my mind now. But not nearly as sexy as the Roman tunic/skirt with the bare legs and sandals thing I was visualizing for a moment. :D
I receive E.V.P. It's real, although I don't hear it in this video. No offense to you, I think there was too much noise filtering. I think research into it and anything deemed Paranormal, has a stigma. If you tell someone about this, they might be creeped out and avoid you. You have experiences you'd love to share but don't because of how people might perceive you.
The EVP sounded like “Ave!” which means “Greetings” or “hi!”. (I have a Master’s Degree in Latin).
Salve...
Precious DeVere__Either is acceptable for “hello”...as is “avete”.
@@kewlken5129 What an interesting soul you are I would like to have a cup of tea with you very interesting. X

I guess there are those of us who trip over blades of grass quite easily, eh? 😉
I lived 2 minutes from there for 3 years im from America and have moved back to Orlando since then
Thanks, Sergio.

I heard first voice say, 'who are you?'
Gail Luo__No, that was definitely Latin. It sounded like “Avete!” to me. That means “Greetings!” or “Hello!”.
tectorama__Sure, if it’s actually a true account.
I love all this history stuff. Well done.
I live on Mersea myeslf, it really is a lovely place I have seen the barrow and gone in it, quite spooky
@VideoDude87 That`s always a good point, but I feel they can `read` our thoughts as emotional energy rather than language or dialect.

I really in joy watching this ! very interesting too !. also I saw faces on the trees scary. thanks Chris ..
if you die and become a ghost why would you haunt the place where you are buried, wouldn't you haunt somewhere you were happy
I'd look for a nice modern place!
Modern places are boring
The local story is that it's the grave of a Roman princess, and the soldier ghost is linked to her romantically
Roman soldiers believed in life after death, that a kind of supreme divinity could be sought, so this might explain why the Roman ghosts return to their place of death as a source of affirmation that divinity has reached. Another reason they return to their graves are that traumatic death may have left the physical self at odds with the soul at time of death, the ghost unable to pass through other dimensions of time and space?. x
Chris... Have you tried Sutton hoo burial mounds in Suffolk? Or rendlesham forest? They would be good places to look into...
Oh yes..great idea !!👍

PLEASE `LIKE` IF YOU ENJOYED THIS VIDEO:)
Excellent mate. lovin the new documentary style commentary and narration. A good step forward.
I wish I had been born in Great Britain so I could be a ghost in one of the many castles!!!
Hi Chris, a very interesting place with history to match.
I was surprised to see what looks like concrete walls/doorways inside the burial mound?
Sonia Ismael If it is a prehistoric mound; it became part of the defences in WWII. The whole country is littered with simile of these. Fortress Britain concrete is everywhere. love your video's, keep them coming! thank you.
@MewnEeveeBFFs No, unfortunately the cam will run only for 60 mins from the tape. How I wish I could run an `all nighter`:)
Good thought though.
@CJLinton Not with you. I said on a thread that I have on occasions recorded on camera my voice being replicated as I speak either in a male or female voice and obviously not in an area that would echo my voice. Are you suggesting the EVP from this video is my voice echoing?

@FunnyBrit That`s a site I must visit:) I recall the tales of the soldiers guarding the site. Would love to investigate that site!

Wendy Flay, Thank you for the info, just checked out the website :o)
@7086938 My pleasure, I`m pleased you enjoy these:)

Really interesting, Chris. I hope you do get the chance to investigate further. Like the EVPs. It's a pity they locked it up, but you can understand them wanting to keep vandals out.
Such a shame they lock it up, could have been a great place for children to learn about the past, for school trips.
Very interesting video! Thanks for posting such an interesting video shot in such a beautiful location....
@000CODE000 I`ve kept them at MP4 simply because it would take many hours to upload them and YT has a habit of crashing with bigger files unfortunately.

@doorwaysmag Have done so, but I can`t hear any. Thanks for commenting:)
@CJLinton That is the point I answered. I wasn`t in any location that could echo my voice, and these `echoes` last one sentence but not longer, and were male or female.
@brfc1993 Thankyou! I am truly honoured:)
@Greyfort7 Yes, a lot of time has passed.

@flexina I think they do arrange school visits Anna.
Very informative vid Chris, is this the Roman Ghost you were telling me about?

I will be heading here soon for a investigation.. Can always let you no what I catch

Excellent! Thanks! DaveyJO
Went in there very many moons ago. I don't think there was a gate at the entrance. The passage just ed down to the middle, not a ghost in sight.
i live on mersea and i have heard of the ghost on the strood (causeway) but i haven't heard of the place you went to, where is it ??? Chris Halton - Haunted Earth tv
@notanantiGnostic Yes, archaeologists can be a strange brood of people:)
But this site is under the control of the local council now.
@wolfparanormal Thankyou my friend, I might try for a daytime shoot there if they will allow me.
@ScowlingWolf Thankyou!:)

@cooking23 Probably not at night, but they might let me in during the day. I would have to check this out:)

or sad depending on the strength of the emotion

@Tessietots Thankyou:) I agree.

@flexina I do agree Anna:)
Intresting vid
@agentm83 Thankyou:)
Why do people think that all spirits speak English.
cool
very interesting, hope you can do a night investigation
Did somebody figured out what the evp voice said in latin?
bernisweltredsun__”Avete!”, it means “Greetings!” or “Hello!”.
Redcoat‘s Return__Very good! 😆
@Spookypalooza Got a couple of Viking ones somewhere:)
Awesome vid man, keep up the great work. Check out the featured vid on my page, thanks. Let me know if you hear any evps in it.
nice video and presentation - but are you aware that you posted your full name and then filmed yourself trespassing or breaking and entering?
he didn't do an harm at all, just hopped over the fence!
You know Chris with dealing with Archaeologist there is a chance you could find an ally in your work. Maybe someone to get you in.

Intresting place but why would a ancient crypt dating back to the Roman times would have a spirit speaking modern english when the only languges that I know that would of existed at the time around there would of been Latin, Celtic and a few dielects of german
Neither spirit was speaking English. Both the male and female voices were Latin.
@ozbillybong Thanks Oz - Good on you:)
The evp sounds like a blumin demon to me!
What? No Roman Legionnaire costume? Awwww... I'm disappointed Chris. ;-)
@wifiman1 For real??
@Constantine99999 LOL! Bring it! I can see that in my mind now. But not nearly as sexy as the Roman tunic/skirt with the bare legs and sandals thing I was visualizing for a moment. :D
It's "legionary" - a "legionnaire" is something else.
Try speaking in Latin next time. At night when the traffic is least.
I receive E.V.P. It's real, although I don't hear it in this video. No offense to you, I think there was too much noise filtering. @wifiman1 Lol!
@anzac2404 You know the drill. If I was `Time Team` I`m sure they`ll let me film there:)
Energy my arse. He's suffering from an over active imagination.
@b1p0l4rt Me too! Bring him on:)
@saltfan2 If only I knew what that meant:)
I've been in there with school before I knew this 👎
