    The "XF15" GMC motorhome is actually the same vintage as the other GMC motorhome you went inside of. They were built between 1973 and 1978. They are highly regarded for their comfort and drivability as well as build quality compared to other motorhomes manufactured at the time (and probably currently today) which is why there are companies that totally refurbish and update them today, such as the XF15 you see here. Interesting fact, these are actually Front Wheel Drive using the powertrains from Oldsmobile Toronados, with either a 403 cid or 455 cid Olds V8 engine. this allowed for a lower floor and therefore an overall lower vehicle height, which help stability. The rear axles use an Air Ride suspension which makes them ride great! Sorry for my "geek out", I just love those things!

    Spent 8 or 10 years as a kid travelling with maw n' paw out to the Atlantic coast to spend summers at the grandparents. There was always a little community of relatives at that old house and always a few trailers in the field. We had a Glendale 'Orbit' with a space capsule decal. Loved that decal!

    When I was a kid In the late 60's, we had a trailer just like the first one you showed. It was a "Forester" instead of a "Holiday Rambler". We pulled it behind a Pontiac Catalina and went all over the country with it. It's surprising how you get used to moving around in that small of a space. We had some great times, although I remember falling out of the top bunk in my sleep once or twice!

    The "tag Axle" GMC motorhomes are front wheel drive. Powered by a 455 Olds. They will do burn outs with the front wheels! They were thew cats meow when they were new.

    Sadly, not many maintain their vintage RVs. You see a lot of homeless utilizing them and get abandoned all over. One of my favorites was the more basic 60's/70's ones you didn't show. The Mallard.

    Obviously, you're in your element. If I may, I'd like to request a brief tour of your home on the road. I'm just a noodge (More or less rhymes with 'should' and Yiddish for a nosy someone). BTW, I had no idea that the house car predated the 1960s. When I was a teen, my family enjoyed large, grand circle holidays of western North America in a plain vanilla house car called the Western Road Runner, a big box built on a Dodge A10 van chassis. My favourite is that that house car on a Caddy chassis. Thanks for this and stimulating some pleasant memories....

    Was at that great museum a couple of decades ago with my Dad. At the time, there were way less RVs on display, but one in particular, caught my interest. It had been caught in a tornado in the 1930's, and a huge piece of flying wood was still sticking through 2 of its walls!!! 🤔 😮 😱

  • @HailAnts
    @HailAnts ปีที่แล้ว

    The GMCs with the tandem rear wheels aren't really tag axels, as they're not 'axels' at all. They're boogie wheels. There's no axels connecting the two sides, which made more room for the interior.
    They were front wheel drive, using the Tornado/El Dorado drivetrain. Not really a good design because those early front wheel drives were not made to pull heavy loads like that..
