@@FISHINGWITHCAL cheers Cal, got it in the whitley bay area, beat my old mans PB and yet to find another angler with a bigger bass locally so it really was a treat. this summer ill be heading to scotland to find some bigger ones hopefully!
Hi Cal. That big chunk was a beauty off the top! I’m jealous a tad of you still getting out in December; my not so local bass marks are SW Scotland and water temp is under 10c and dropping - so I’ve not done the 7 hr return drive to get a line wet since mid November. I’m missing it! Great to watch you still chasing silver near Christmas. Tight lines and stay well, G
Thanks very much mate. Yeah a seven hour drive for a bass in winter doesn’t sound that appealing to me either 🤣 That’s the fortunate thing about living on an island, the marks are all close together. Cheers!
Brilliant session , few nice size bass, and on the shallow lure 👍, hopefully you got your mojo back on the shallow lure fishing , can’t beat a fresh bass for the table , well done Cal
@ was out early doors this morning near Mevagissey , 3 bass on the tackle house feed shallow ( mullet ) all 3 over 42, sent them back to catch another day,
Excellent Video as usual Cal,great to sea you hook a couple off the surface,55cm a good fish indeed, it’s a shame about those swimmers, swimming your mark, nice video all the same.😎🎣
Cheers mate. Unfortunately, I haven’t managed to do much at all this year. Still waiting for that first one! Maybe on the next calm day I’ll give it a go again.
Them pesky swimmers always ruin the fun for fisherman. Almost every session I have one turn up & scare the fish away unless in the most remote spots. It's like they do it on purpose.😅 Anyhow, saying that, I love your content. it's always lovely to see locals catching. Shame about the weather this weekend just gone, but always another time, eh? I know this has nothing to do with this video, but would you recommend the Samson Long Cast 12' Expanse LS I've seen you use in earlier videos? Is it worth the money? I've just bought the Samson Shad Compact Mini 25g, yet to catch anything on it, but a lovely lure, bought on your recommendations on video, but I am curious about the 12' Expanse LS if you have the time to chat anytime. I look forward to viewing more of your content in the future. 😁
@@MrTurney01 The Expanse is a very useful, powerful rod. It all depends on what you want to use it for really. It’s an ideal rod to use for casting heavy lures into strong head winds. It can also be used for light ledgering for bass and bream etc. I also have to heavier version, 30-100g. That thing is a beast! The shads are brilliant lures mate. You just need to use them at the right time and work them properly. I’ve had tons of bass on those.
hello cal, could u tell me what time of the year that is atm of the video? just curious about bass hitting top water lures in that weather. In northwestern part of spain where i live is almost impossible to get them on top water lures
Quality top water bass there Cal. I seem to remember there was a period a few years back when you were considering knocking the channel on the head. I'm so glad you didn't mate. Yours has got to be the realest channel out there! 😊
Thanks a lot mate I appreciate it! Yeah I’ve been a lot less active on TH-cam this year compared to previous years but that’s also down to having less time to go fishing properly now. I’m hoping that’ll change in the new year so hopefully they’ll be plenty of new videos too. Cheers mate!
I am on the island at the moment, I have tomorrow free. I lost a lot of lures today bot knowing the marks and the ground. 🤦🏻♂️ Worth chucking a lure about still in December?
Can’t catch a bloody cold round Dorset at the moment. This time last year it was boiling with bass but this year, absolutely dead. Giving serious consideration to booking a basscation in Guernsey this winter.
I use surface lures from the boat all the time. Obviously you’d be better off with a diving lure in very deep water but if the bass are feeding on the surface then go for it. They’re great for inshore shallow reefs etc too.
You are too much gentleman Cal. I fished mainly off wharfs and if a boat came into my space I cast directly at them. I hit a few too. Gave me a lot of satisfaction. I would have cast at that swimmer. They are just ignorant.
On the Job again great to see you doin what you luv 😉👍 what moron goes swimming on an overcast day 🏊♀ 👈 One only i dont like that myself they can see you fishing and they just swim right in your area .
Well done Cal, awesome session. Great to see at this time of year 👍
Love your fishing sessions Cal. No modern gizmos, just you and nature the way it should be !
Thanks mate. Appreciate the comment!
only got 1 bass myself this season as I started late up in Northumberland. 62cm. always a great motivator to get the next one watching your vids.
A 62 is a very nice fish though mate nice work.

@ Yeah that’s awesome mate. It’s probably nicer to catch the odd bigger one over numerous small ones too. Nice work.
@@FISHINGWITHCAL haha i hear u but it sucks watching you southerners catch so frequently :p although i get to learn a bit haha. appreciate the vibes

As always
Excellent bass fishing video
To watch and learn
Thank You and alltimes tight lines
Thanks a lot 👌🏼🎣
Great session Cal.
Lovely. You were the first bass/coastal fishing channel I followed and I always enjoy the videos. Cheers from sunny Devon. ❤
Ahh thanks a lot mate. Really glad you enjoy the videos! Cheers.
Great to see you out cal and doing what you do best. Would be interesting to catch a swimmer on a lure 🤔
Good video
Nice video Cal the lure fishing has died down in Southampton so glad to see someone catch mate
Thanks mate. We had a very quiet spell over here a couple months back but it’s picked up now.
Some cracking bass there 👌🏻
Well done Cal, cracking winter Bass "off the top"👌
That's the size of fish I want to catch up to 5 or 6 pounds, I don't want the struggle with tenpounders
Swimmers just don't understand our passion for bass fishing
I can see why they swim in the sea with all the urine in the swimming pools
Thanks a lot mate. Can’t beat it eh 🎣

That’s right! Cheers.
Great video as usual

Thanks! Yeah it was a shame. I’m sure there would’ve been more fish in there. They definitely moved once that swimmer arrived. Next time!

Nicely Cal! Well done mate ;) - SMITHY
Lures are so expensive - might invest in a couple of white 'patch' though - thanks, great video !
Yeah they can be pretty pricey. You’re a lot less likely to lose a surface lure though, so you’ll get your monies worth out of them.
Nice work cal, great catching bro
How’s the mullet fishing going?! 🎣

Cal do you think you can use a top water lure from a boat or are you better with something that goes deeper like a Lazy lure

Great sport buddy, what rod and reel combo is that 🎣👍
Cheers. The rod is a 9ft Shimano Aernos 7-35g and the reel is a Shimano Vanford 4000.
Greetings from Greece. Did you ever try Rapala walk n roll or duo reallis pencil sw ;
Hi! Yeah I’ve used the walk n roll in the past. I’ve used a few duo lures also but I don’t think I’ve tried the reallis pencil no.

I wonder how much bass is yhese days ppd u made me hungry 😋
It’s pretty expensive these days. I couldn’t tell you the exact price by the kilo. Guernsey prices will differ slightly compared to Uk prices.
