I LOVE these types of videos, even though I've done it many times, it's always interesting to see what others opinions are. Thanks Jamie for the awesome content
Thanks for all your extra content lately even in the midst of all your business is going through. It is really appreciated. Thanks you are helping us stay connected.
Never seen somebody rocking a light bar here in Sweden, it seems cumbersome to me? The most popular headlamp for ultrarunning over here is the Lumonite Compass R. Can strongly recommend both the light and the company.
mrkringlan it’s personal preference but a much more effective light. It can be strapped to your pack of attached to a waist belt with magnets. Everyone I know that has tried it uses them for every night race now. Jamil is the first I have seen to use it as a hand held, I personally put it in a waist belt.
Wow, so much gear! I carry a water bottle, small flashlight, small tube of 100 SPF sunscreen, toilet paper & electrolyte pills in a Ziploc bag, a few gel packs, car key, and a lightweight Mountain Hardware jacket/windbreaker or lighter Patagonia Dragonfly that I wear if cold or tied around my waist if not. I don't use a pack or a drop bag. Everything fits in my pockets. I always wear a lightweight long-sleeve top and a Sunday Afternoons hat, Patagonia running shorts, a new pair of Patagonia socks, light-weight Altra 0-drop, trail running shoes with rock guard. That's everything from head to foot except the race bib with my number and distance. I used to carry more, but I've eliminated what I never use. Race day it's drink, eat, and run. I get high just thinking about it.
These are great for people like me who are just getting into the ultra racing and on 50k races I seem to be bringing the kitchen sink. Also when you listed the nutrition you had, wow that’s amazing that you take that much on. I think this year I need to work out how to take on more food!
Great video, I have a salomon skin 5 vest and love it, looking to get a 12 in the future. Keep up with the content, you are by far my favourite you tube channel x
Hi Jamil I have been training for my own unsupported 50 mile run I am hoping to do in the next few weeks. Its a run I shall do on my own ( all on road) I carry a pack with drinks weighing 8lbs I am hoping to do this in around 10hours ( I am a 52 yr old male) Any advise on avoiding injuries would be welcome, from anyone Ta. Tom
Tom, when you say road, I hope you mean dirt road. 8 pounds of drinks? Maybe find a route that offers water? Or stash water a few places on route. Obviously, start well-rested in every sense. Carry some real food.
@@alwaysuseless Hey. sorry its taken a week to reply. Covid 19 has delayed my plans. To answer your question I was planning to run on road ( tarmac) but actually I have always been aware of the injury danger to running on tarmac and may change the plan slightly to run partly on track partly on tarmac. I have been nursing an knee injury just lately so just as well. I like to push myself so carrying weight adds to the challenge. my inspiration is the Uk Royal Marines.
@@tomshearing7914 Good luck. I live in a rural area with miles and miles of dirt roads and mountain trails in every direction. Apparently, that's not your situation. For a 50-mile run seems like it would be worth driving 50 miles to have dirt roads or trails and fresh scenery.
Is there any way you can make some singlets with everyone’s favorite metal bands?? I will buy them all, I promise. I see Roark did some Motörhead swag and it looks awesome.
My First 50 miler is coming up in may 22. I am still looking what to bring and what not to bring… like saltpills does anyone recommend? Cafaïne pills i wont need i think.
Sense Pro was my go to shoe before the Ultra Pro was created. Now I like the Ultra Pro for my longer races 100K - 200 miles in length. But now that they have updated the Sense Pro to have bigger lugs, I like them for muddy trails.
Jamil, great videos! Great topics and lots of good information. Keep up the great work. Looking for some advice. I know your a Salomon guy but I'm looking for a running vest/pack. I am a bigger guy, 6ft 1in and 245lbs and I am looking for some advice on a pack that might run on the bigger side and fit someone of my size. Thanks and keep putting out great videos.
Hello! Great video! I was just wondering about salt pills as I don’t think you mentioned them, do you carry those too? If so when would you recommend taking them?
Idk how people only carry those little water bottles during a race. I have to have full on 2L with me... haha. Caffeine pills and salt pills are so handy to carry!
Yes, I'm on the US Salomon athlete team. I was a die hard Mizuno fan (Musha) until they discontinued their product. In my search for my next "shoe" of choice I landed on Salomon and was fortunate enough to partner up with them over the years. It is truly a brand I believe in. Thank you!
This guy is everything that's wrong with the ultra running Community. He's wearing over $2,000 in gear and he shamelessly promotes his sponsor. He has very little talent and is highly specialized for one sport which he's not particularly good at. Typical ultramarathon yuppie.
This June, I'll be vegan for 3 years. You make such great content and your races make me want to move to AZ:)Thanks for the morale boost during these times.
This seems a bit too scripted vs your causal, I've got all this stuff, let's start here... blah blah blah kind of fun discussion. Was this sponsored and you had a producer breathing down your neck ?? Prefer the older style of you and your life approach.
@@runsteepgethigh I personally like all your casual reviews and discussions as it feels more like you talking to us about your field of expertise. Maybe just have your bullet points and then talk about them in whatever order comes to mind. Love hearing your views. You are inspiring. Leep up the great vids and work!
Run Steep Get High I enjoyed watching you because you seemed so free. But with that vlog it just sounded like an advert. Be yourself whilst advertising you looked like you had a hand up your ass. Just saying. Love your vids but this one not so much.
I LOVE these types of videos, even though I've done it many times, it's always interesting to see what others opinions are. Thanks Jamie for the awesome content

I appreciate that!
You forgot to mention, arguably, your most important item, your watch!
Just found your channel and have been binging, ultra is so badass!!
When you got to listing the food you ate, I giggled because that is a reason why I run ultra's...the food!
Totally need that Lifestraw Flex Bottle. Thanks for the reco!
Any time!

I know this is kinda off topic but this is a really well done video. You have good speaking skills in front of the camera.

I just got the lifestraw flex collapsible bottle for longer runs this year. Can't wait to try it!
Sweet!
This is not an ad for Salomon.

Thanks for tuning in. I hope it helped in some way.
Always love these
You seem like a chill dude. I start training with a backpack because without food and water I hit a wall when I do 17k.
Appreciate the video... New sub, aspiring intermediate ultra novice! Thanks for the tips!
The best ultra marathon !! Just bcz best health 😀😀

I really enjoy your drone footage being added into your videos, especially your coverage of races with a drone.
Glad you like them!
Wow I can’t believe you ran with the drone that’s dedication 🙌
It was worth it for those shots!
Great Video!! I was wondering if the Nathan insulated hydration bottle will fit in the Salomon Vest? Thank you
Hey Jam can you do a video on your every day diet? x
Sure!
My First 50 miler is coming up in may 22. I am still looking what to bring and what not to bring… like saltpills does anyone recommend? Cafaïne pills i wont need i think.
Which watch do you wear?
What watch are you using?
How wide is the toe box? I am in Altras because I need the big toe splay.
What was the tripod?
real question is how'd you get that color for the pack? can't find it anywhere!
What is the determining factor whether you run in Salomon Ultra Pros or Sense Pros?
Sense Pro was my go to shoe before the Ultra Pro was created. Now I like the Ultra Pro for my longer races 100K - 200 miles in length. But now that they have updated the Sense Pro to have bigger lugs, I like them for muddy trails.

Have you tried one in a larger size? I’m not exactly sure but other brands you might want to check out are Ultimate Direction & Nathan
great video !
Thanks!

Forgot to ask, where or what is that tripod? looks perfect for YouTubing!
Love your videos, also this new, telepromted thing.
Ha you do like it? Seems like most aren't a fan haha
@@runsteepgethigh hahah, naw, a bit stiffer than usual to me. But thanks for keep making content in these times.
do you wipe off your go pro lens before you start filming each time or just record and hope for the best? Thanks for the videos!
Sometimes if I see a smudge.
I had to check if I was watching this from Salomon's channel 🤣
@Isaac Kyler that's pathetic, get a life!
good content jam2. keep em coming. sad to hear barkley is cancelled
Thanks and will do!
Hey jamil loved the video, I was just wondering what watch you run with?
Thanks! Suunto Spartan Ultra
thanks
Is that watch custom?
No, it is just a standard Suunto Spartan Ultra!
Wait! Saolomon did a yellow vest?!?! They only do boring dark colours now 😢
+1 on the drone :) Yes they are getting smaller.
For sure.
Nothing about the watch...?
Totally forgot about that! It's one I've been using for a few years. - A Suunto Spartan ultra
This video should be titled… “I’m sponsored by” Salomon….
Idk how people only carry those little water bottles during a race. I have to have full on 2L with me... haha. Caffeine pills and salt pills are so handy to carry!
Hola, Jamil. Are you sponsored by Salomon?
Yes, I'm on the US Salomon team.
Awsesome...
Need that intro music, man. NEED THAT INTRO MUSIC
Just for the Steep Life episodes!
Jamil you must keep it real man, why does video seem so rehearsed?
Scripted this one
Run Steep Get High you are a natural man just wing it next time without script. Thanks for the vids.
I wonder if he has a sponsor.
JD Zellers He has been pretty transparent about being a Salomon athlete for several years.

Is this whole thing off a teleprompter?? haha
Yeah
It shows that you are reading from a teleprompter and its not as good as when you just spit bars bro.
Oh my god I actually have to turn this off. Wow.
👍
unfortunately this particular video feels alot like a commercial, not just for Solomon but for Aravaipa stuff... some may call this "selling out"...
You went with what ever Salomon told you to go with. 😂
Definitely my own choices!

Can you show what gear you'd wear if you were a girl? JK
Jam Jam, are you a vegan?! 🙌🏻
haha! That's great. Probably similar stuff. And yes I've been vegan for close to 10 years.
This June, I'll be vegan for 3 years. You make such great content and your races make me want to move to AZ:)Thanks for the morale boost during these times.

Wasn’t sponsored. Tried scripting it. Clearly didn’t work.

Keep up not Leep up!! But you have that leg power to leap!! 😁
i get it now, this is just a salomon ad
Y'all so corny, following the meta. Every race I go to everybody dressed the same, saying the same shit and have the same gear. Be yourself
Good info, feels scripted. Relax dude
Bingo!
Bro, you're sponsored. This is scripted. You get free gear. :)
Yes I did write the script.
Mate that sounds so scripted. You’ve been controlled. Very sad indeed. 😞😞
Controlled by whom? Yes I did write the script. So I guess controlled by myself.
