- The Bee Hummingbird is not only the smallest hummingbird, but the smallest BIRD in the world. It is endemic to the Cuban archipeligo. The male measures in at 2.2 inches or 6 cm and he beats his wings 80 times per second, which is faster than most other hummingbirds. The male Bee Hummingbird is stunning with his iridecent red head and gorget with long neck plumes. His chest and abdomen are dingy white and he has a turquoise blue back. The female has a white throat and breast and she is slightly bigger than the male.

Yes, we took this footage on the Zapata Peninsula in Cuba at Casa Ana Birding Endemic last April.
Wow! So cute! The head is almost as big as the body! Thank you Carole for making these films and delighting us.
I love the Bee Hummingbird, so beautiful and so cute too.
Always wanted to see this unique Hummingbird. You are so fortunate to see the famous Zunzuncito in person. What a treat!

absolutely adorable 💚❤️
🥰
Thank you Carol!😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I have seen some humming birds really small, at least half the size of normal ones here in Brazil, so small that it sounds like a bumblebee flying.
So adorable!! Love all those colors ❤
Wow! How amazing and beautiful is this tiny hummingbird! ❤Thank you so much for sharing. Helene
Thanks for Sharing, AWESOME!!!
absolutely awesome!!
I absolutely love this bird. ❤🎉
Stunning!
Wonderful❤👍✌️
It's hard to wrap one's head around how small the little Zunzuncito as they call it in Cuba really is. I saw a picture of one near someone's hand and it genuinely does look like just a large insect. It looks dramatically smaller than even the typical 3-4" hummingbirds we're more used to.
Hello, can you do a documentary about why hummingbirds are so territorial but not on big feeders where there are hundreds of birds?
beauty comes in small packages! hope we see it again.
Neat
Beautiful ❤
Amazing video as always Carole - could I ask how many species you’ve now seen?

Just saw one in my garden in Central Mexico.
You probaby saw the Bumblebee Hummingbird, a different species. Just as cute, though, but a tiny bit bigger than the Cuban one. The Bumblebee Hummingbird is found in Mexico. The Bee Hummingbird is found only in Cuba.
Carole I absolutely love your voice narration here! The pace and clarity are spot on, and your love for and knowledge of the subject are apparent, as is the warmth with which you convey them - beautiful job (as well as the lovely video of course!). I don't think it's an overstatement to compare it to narration of the great Sir David Attenborough - it expresses and evokes a similar wonder - there can be no higher compliment!
Wow. I am humbled.
Well you need to say these things don't you?! Honestly such natural and engaging voiceover is lovely to encounter - makes such a difference@@HummingbirdSpot
That's not the smallest I'd say it's average 😢
It is the smallest bird in the world.
🥲💜🐝
It is a beautiful, tiny God's jewel ❤. Indeed gorgeous.
