From someone who owns one, and not just sits at the pub and knocks them I can tell you they ain’t too bad. I went from a 450 Navara (treated me perfectly), to Wildtrack Ranger (purely for radar cruise) but ended up disappointed with huge unrefined engine noise, thirsty as heck, and wouldn’t rev a damn. Did handle good tho, I have to give it that. Traded that on the Merc and refinement was immediately apparent, and while people like to knock the coil back end, in reality it’s great. If you want maximum 3.5 tow then maybe it’s lacking, but if you want 3.5 tow then I suggest you get larger again and do it safely. People wanted to knock the new kid, and it worked. But for those with one, I bet they love it. Does need cup holder tho :(
IMO this is not going to do very well against the kings utes like the hilux, triton, ranger and amarok.It may pack a lot of power and "luxury" (which i find quite outdated), but from sales it shows that power and luxury is not what every one is looking for in this segment. The ranger, hilux and triton has less power and less refinement in the interior than amarok yet they all still out sells it. What people want is proven capability and general overall reliability which is why the hillux, ranger, triton and amarok will always take the crown. I consider the amarok part of the tops because it is one of the only luxury version utes on the market which people buy and love.

After the initial flurry, I can't see it continuing to sell well. Most people who buy pickups want luxury but with economy of operation. This thing has the same drivetrain as the Navara, which is already very heavily discounted and available for around the same price as the Isuzu. There is very little difference apart from the badge and dash trim to the Navara. So why not buy the Navara for not far off half the price after discount? I'm willing to bet that in eight to ten year's time both the Mercedes and Nissan's chassis will be equally well rotted.
Its going to break down within 5 years.. i choose my pick up truck based on reliability (60%), design (20%), practicallity n proformance ( 20% ). Hilux and ranger tick the box for me. 😄😄😄😄😄

I currently drive Merc CLA 200 CDI and sitting inside the X-class in Frankfurt Motor Show just for curiosity the interior felt like absolute crap pile of plastic. Everything felt fimsy, seats were bad, seriously bad, much worse than A/B-Class/CLA-lineup which is base cars from mercs line up. This is starting from doube? the price and has no sense of quality feel by touch in the interior. Dissapointed.

For proof look at all the base model 2WDs with a well body, zero, compared to all the top spec 4WDs, 90%. Which do you think is moving pallets.
Mercedes should have gone in the direction of Ford Raptor for real performance. But they lack originality and off road experience. And don't you mention G wagons or Unimogs because they are not pickups/uties.
Idk which market was targeted here but I can tell you that for the pricepoint of a fully loaded mercedes nearly every person in the south would prefer getting a raptor / runner / runner all day everyday. Besides those brands having major experience with the pick up industry, they also offer a great deal for the price you pay.. This thing is too fancy to be used correctly and to ugly to be driven regularly on the street. Lets see how that goes.
I don't think a sane person would be paying premium money for a truck to get dirty. 4WD tech on a truck like this just goes to waste and dead weight. Likely uses for a truck like this would be school drop off and pick ups as well as the odd visits to the shopping centre.

In addition, marketing it as a passenger car more and giving it a class, like the GLX perhaps, would have made it much more appealing. Finally, if this car was sold in the US, it would achieve excellent success.
If I turned up to work in that my customers would think I was taking the piss rather have a Toyota they are bom proof the Merck is a bit of a tarts car and based on a Nissan and the old one's snapped in half I rest my case Toyota all day long
