This was a joy to watch from start to finish. GBA2 is a severely underrated and overlooked gem of a fighting game, and we're still learning more about it everyday. It might be too much to ask, but I hope to see more big events like this in the future host GBA2 tournaments. Special shoutouts to Mibeador and Shadow Fox, who clearly displayed both their own talents and the potential of this game.
Yeah. The coool thing is you can activate it anytime even on blockstun, hitstun, or while knocked down. That's what we see Quinn Mantha does to stop Maxter infininite combo he make sure to always have funnel out.

Well hopefully this game will be in future tournaments going forward ☆☆☆☆☆\(◕ ◡ ◕\)
Heavyarms is definitely a top 5 character. There's a substantial chunk of the cast who straight up does not have a response to the pressure between his homing rockets and mortar fire. That being said, he's held back by having some major counters. Characters with I Field (Quin Mantha, The-O, Hydra) have the ability to effectively ignore projectiles, and notably almost all of Heavyarms kit, including even all his punch normals, are projectiles. His matchups against the top 3 are even at best, with Deathscythe having his slash projectile able to block most shots and teleport to get him in, Rose having barrier and outclassing in midrange, and Burning having the ability to command dash through and force a situation as well as a devastating laser super to make hard callouts with. With all that said, the wall of projectiles speak for themselves, and while we didn't see it in top 8, Heavyarms even has an infinite if he can find an opening in melee.
It felt like I was watching people who had never touched Heavyarms in their life using him here. He has some of the biggest cheese in the game and there's very little you can do against him. There's no reason a Maxter should ever be able to beat a Heavy Arms if both players are of the same skill level.. or even remotely close in skill level. Heavyarms' over powered nonsense is usually the training wheels of the game, as even a beginning player can no-difficulty make their way through the game's campaign, so he's a good pick to start learning the basics of more advanced gameplay with once he's unlocked. He's also one of only two characters to my memory with a ranged "beam saber" attack, which you can't actually block. In his case, he fires some kind of plasma rocket. The other being Devil gundam. It's a ridiculously good ability which can win you matches alone. On top of this, his leg missiles are just flat out better than his gatling guns and don't use up any ammo. The only time you don't use them is when you need the anti-air of the gatlings, but it's a narrow margin. The only bad thing about heavyarms is his ultimate attack is like Maxter's, effectively useless and you only pull it out for show. There's never a good reason to pick his ultimate over some other choice. I'm pretty convinced that the player being so new is why his opponent chose Maxter, to try and give him a chance. That all being said... Quin Mantha is one of the few good picks against Heavy Arms. So, that guy was boned from the get go. It's been... decades.. since I've played anyone in this game (and the one guy who would play with me regularly would only use boss mechs), so I can't recall if the unblockable plasma rockets will punch through that i-field or not. If they do, that'd of been the obvious play. Against non i-field equipped players, you can usually just sit at the other end of the screen and spam and nothing will hit you since you can use that little two-button background-dodge to slip out of players who get through and corner you and just zip to the other side. A common trick is to deploy leg missiles and use them as cover to do something else, but it looks like these heavyarms players were using the other options to cover odd angles. There's no point in ever doing that. Abuse your leg missiles and stay mobile. That's it 99% of the time. Unfortunately, there's zero balance to this game. There's a low skill ceiling, and high level play mostly consists of spamming only like 2 or 3 of your best moves in the fight because they're excessively good compared to your other options. This makes every fight pretty much what you saw with Maxter, where he was relying on a very simple combo to get all of his damage out, because there's literally zero point to ever cyclone punching your opposition except to show off. The boss mechs are also all so powerful that there's no point in picking anything other than Big Zam. Ever. Ok, Dark (Devil) Gundam is pretty good too. He can be a decent pick. But besides those two? Everything else is invalidated. And the weaker boss mecha also make the normal playable mecha pointless.
@@ronodenthal100 A lot of incorrect points here. First off, yeah Heavyarms vs Maxter is a very very difficult matchup, but Shadowfox is a dedicated specialist of the character, so it'd make sense why he had some experience and was able to navigate it. Leg missiles are obviously extremely powerful, but they have limitations. They can't be fired when *ANY* of your other projectiles are on the screen. No other missiles, no bullets, nothing. In addition while they do home to an extent, if an opponent calls them out flying over, a lot of characters can get big punishes off for it, some characters can even blow you up with a big super like Burning, Master, or Tallgeese. They also have some deceptively chunky startup on them, and can be stuffed pretty easily when you're cornered. Vulcans help to allay this by being usable whenever and having extremely powerful tracking, pretty much forcing the opponent to lock down for a minute and reset a situation, which is in turn balanced out by its limited ammo. I have no idea where you got the idea that Heavyarms's super is bad. It's not the best in the game, but is quite powerful, with confirms into it from full screen. It can also be used to force the opponent to either spend boost or take a hefty amount of chip. For most characters, there's little way to even get around it, and even if you do you don't typically get a guaranteed punish. As you said, Quin Mantha and other I fielders perform well against Heavyarms, and no, unblockable missiles do not go through I field, in fact I field even blocks beam saber unblockables. Dark/Devil Gundam in this game is in fact banned. Alongside Psyco and Epyon, those three are near unbeatable by any normal character in the cast, so they're not allowed in normal play.
