  • This is what we did during our first day on our lifestyle visit in The Villages, Florida. We checked in early, so we could enjoy the day. Our day consisted of checking into our Villa, eating lunch at McDonald's, shopping at Publix, swimming at one of the rec centers, and seeing a show at the Savannah Center. We were ready to hit the sack at the end of the day. It was so much fun!

We love florida and sunshine and used to dream of retirement there. After seeing what it is like we knew it was not for us. We love our land and gardens too much. We found our green grass right where we are.

I can live anywhere (no roots) and pretty much have. I'm not tied-down to a particular location be it a state, city or town.
In 2 years I'll be ready (financially) to buy a property and I have 3 "Plans." Plan A is to move back to CO (Springs), Plan B is The Villages (or OTOW not far from them) and Plan C is to stay here in TX. I prefer CO (for several reasons) but am open to the others as well. Every place has its trade-offs, so I'm not looking for Perfect. ;-)

Have a great time, we were just there three weeks ago on a lifestyle visit, we stayed seven days, and we had a great time. We are in the process of returning soon to buy a house. People need to go and have the lifestyle experience in order to really see how awesome is and all the stuff you can do. Enjoy and hope to see you someday…

In June of 2024 it was $99 per night. There are different rates at different times of the year. We didn’t have to already know that we wanted to buy to go, but we do. The agent only checked in on us twice, so there was no pressure whatsoever.

My Grandparents moved there in the 90s from Detroit. Unbeknown to us kids, they joined a swinger group (yuk) and had the time of their lives. They were getting busy like rabbits according to our parents. About 10 years ago, our parents moved there to be close to them. My grandparents are in their 70s and still swing. They even got our parents involved in their activities. DOUBLE YUK. But they are all having fun in retirement and us kids are happy for them (gulp).
I guess to each their own; consenting adults and all. They all seem very happy. Perhaps you can join their group and play with them.

An HOUR from one section to another on small streets with a ton of roundabouts? Aren't there any major thoroughfares to with 40-50 mph streets to get from one end to the other?

3:33 - Absolutely ridiculous that McDs cannot make a couple SIMPLE hamburgers between the time you order and get to the pick up window AND they tell you move out of line. They can literally make an order like this in less than a minute even when pretty busy. No one on a small order like yours should EVER have to "pull over there and we'll bring it to you".

Actually, we ordered on our app and chose to have them bring it to the car. We were able to get a BOGO free deal using the app and we didn’t have to wait in the drive through line.

I can't imagine what you can dislike, but everyone has their own tastes. I guess if you want a large yard, this isn't the place for you. We want less to take care of and more time to play.

Well, that's what the Lifestyle Vists are for, so now you know The Villages (TV) isn't for you.
In my case -- if I do end up moving to FL -- am considering TV or OTOW...will look into a Dell Webb community as well (but they may be pricier than I'd want). Whatever, I'm pretty sure it'll be 55+, just don't know which one.

@@GetOutHaveFunKeepSmiling I know that I did sound like a Debbie downer which wasn't my intention. To be honest my wife is not a social person, so I wasn't optimistic at all about her liking the Villages. I happen to know quite a few people who lived there and still do so it would have been easy for me to move there just for the recreation sports, softball, golf and pickleball.

There aren’t any HOAs in The Villages. Yes, we have a McDonald’s. We were just showing what we did during our lifestyle visit. We hope we get good neighbors, too. The Amenities fee is very reasonable for everything you get. It’s only $195 per month per household.

The amenities fees are collected by The Villages, the only thing that may have been a special assessment was when they raised the tax a bit on fire tax, because they are building more and the ones in the Villages are staying in the Villages. Their amenities fees have gone up from $145 per month to $190 per month over the course of 15 years. They had 6 increases over that time.
If you don’t like The Villages, then it isn’t the place for you. Everyone is different.
