Great analysis. Why are people so confused by ambiguity. I enjoy it. Chime is a masterclass in restraint and minimal storytelling. Kurosawa's style has reached a new peak. Every element of his filmmaking style is in harmony with Chime. Not a single ounce of fat on this one. A masterpiece.
Just seen Chime and I had a need to look for essays about this and this was a great video. You got a sub. My head canon says that chime takes place in the same world of cure and that now metal is used to hypnotize 😅
Brilliant video essay. Love Kurosawa's movies and Chime was distressing, but i was still dumbstruck. This gives me alot of clarity on what the movie tried to convey!
People don't form their own opinions of films before reaching for an explanation. Kuraswa's films are constructed in order to allow interpretation. That's part of the fun. Unfortunately a lot of people get frustrated and see it as a flaw in his filmmaking. This is Kurosawa's greatest achievement. Film classes could be taught on this film alone.
Make more essays on Kyoshi Kurosawa's movies
Thanks for the suggestion! I haven’t checked out his other filmography, what do your recommend I start with?

Felt the same exact way, it was both a recall to Cure and an experiment in the Lynchian
Fascinating essay, much appreciated!
Kurosawa went full Lynch³
