    mullet is part of your wells catfish "diet" however... like you said and observed its very moody eater. like all catfish, even of its own separate species they can either territorial or even *opitunistic* eaters nimbling on other fish tails and backs. its not to be worried about. as a opposed to them constantly killing other fish and not even trying to eat them. they are scavenger's first and foremost(so scraps are something they like to forage for, why not try leaving some scraps on the bottom of the tanks like bits and pieces of crab,crickets, even allow some golden live fish for them to eat) : and they are not surface or middle tier roaming fish like the arowana', araripama, sturgeon sharks and goilath tiger fish

    • @Fish-Story
      @Fish-Story  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wels can hunt in any strata although bottom is the most frequent one. We don't feed live feeder fish as this carries risks of pathogen transfer and trains a predator to prey on tank mates; plus we believe it is unethical (for us), others can opine differently. Feed cannot be left in a community tank for one fish.

    • @Fish-Story
      @Fish-Story  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you Mark. I could only do the curtain, yes, out of another 45mil EDPM rubber liner. If I'm to move the jumbos into the 25K, that'd be the only thing I'd do - the curtain. I cannot have anything on the bottom because I don't want to mess up the ~automatic / spontaneous detritus removal from the 25K nor want detritus accumulation, nor increased cleaning. ... Wels could have swallowed them then, but he didn't. Moreover all his bites had been on the koi heads before the tail thing broke out. Hence, I wasn't suspecting him first and foremost.

    • @themarkedman72
      @themarkedman72 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Fish-Story Wells is hungry and defending his feeding territory then? I think the second layer of rubber liner would open up your options dramatically although I have this feeling that the Wells and the Jau might not get along?? Sure is going to be a fascinating journey.

    • @Fish-Story
      @Fish-Story  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I doubt the territory defense, I think hunger. The head biting had been rare and I was speaking about a period lasting over a few prior years. ... The jumbos could still puncture the bottom, it is not flat, and there are huge folds of up to a 1 foot wide and 20-50 feet long. Then there are jumbos that are wall bashers - arapaima, paroon, piraiba. These guys could break the relatively thin, 3/4inch acrylic window.

    I was actually going to include the May 15 video where you first found out about the attacks on the koi tails and suspected most likely the arapaima in that Fish Story introductory presentation for my friends. It will still be included because the point conveyed by it still stands (if I can get permission from my friends they will be in one of my future videos to give their thoughts on the presentation), but I guess I better make sure to let them know you found out who was behind this and that it probably wasn't the arapaima.
    Some questions:
    1) At 33 seconds it sounds like you mention piraiba. Was Fun-Size Kuma moved in here?
    I assume either that must have been a misspeaking on your part, or I heard that wrong, because I can't see Fun-Size Kuma anywhere and you mentioned in an earlier comment you would certainly video its transfer over here, which is a video you have yet to release and therefore suggests that it hasn't been moved yet. But I would like to be sure.
    2) Continuing more in the vein of the general topic of moving Fun-Size Kuma in here, would you say this has any effect on your plan to move the koi out and move the jumbos in? The impression I got from the May 15 initial video was that the reason you were doing so was because the arapaima were suspects, but if it is the wels and if it is controllable like you show, would there still be any need to make the switch?
    3) You mentioned Mr. Moody Spoiled European Wels hasn't been growing for a while. I don't know much about wels catfish in general, but what would you say the likelihood of him being a farm runt like a lot of other catfish is? In the video for his story, you mentioned he came from a farm, and with your mention that he hasn't been growing, this immediately came to mind.

    • @Fish-Story
      @Fish-Story  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for refreshing my memory about the May 15, it is helpful.
      1) Yes, I misspoke, I meant obviously arapaima because this word is missing from the list of the names. Sorry about that. Not enough CPUs.
      2) I’m on the fence about the jumbo move to 25K. As exciting as it would be, it is also too risky. The koi must leave the 25K for sure sooner or later. It doesn’t matter be it because of the wels or pima or beluga - these three reign over the exhibit for now. Wels regularly presents problems with its finicky nature and moodiness, who knows what other problems with koi we might run it next.
      3) On Mr. Wels being a runt - I’d doubt it because wels are not farmed for food, they are too cannibalistic for that purpose, but probably for stocking water bodies and a little for Public Aquaria maybe. In fact, IDK why else exactly they would be farmed. So there is no need for culling based on growth rate for these purposes I imagine, but I can be wrong. He quickly reached 5 feet and slowed down 10x after. Perhaps this is normal for them to reach a size to avoid being on manue and then slow down. Plus this is captivity and plus his moodiness plus unnaturally warm climate…

    • @KuhliLoachTrainer
      @KuhliLoachTrainer 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You're welcome for the reminder, happy to be of help.😊
      1) It's ok, everybody makes mistakes.
      2) I was so looking forward to the excitement and entertainment of the jumbos being in there, it would be a real shame if it ends up not happening:( But I'd trust your judgement over mine, and if the jumbos don't go in at least the fish that remain will have extra space with the removal of the koi.
      3) Lol, I should have thought about the water body stocking thing. All those invasive pigeon eaters that keep popping up as tourist-intended catches have to be coming from somewhere.😂
      As for the warm climate thing, it will be well worth keeping up your reporting on Mr. Moody Spoiled European Wels. We can get an idea of what can happen to European wels catfish raised and kept in a tropical climate all their lives.
