    The metal bridge over the river is made by Eiffel, as in Eiffel Tower fame. It's worth a look.
    Just drink some coca tea for the altitude sickness. It works great.

    Loved Arequipa. I didn’t find the altitude as bad as Cusco. Diamox can help...as can hydration. Must see is Juanita the Ice Mummy/Princess. Do a walking tour..so fun!

    Arequipa is the modern day Petra. It is a stone city, a world heritage site referred to as a“masterpiece” by Unesco

    Thanks for the warnings about altitude sickness. My partner almost died in Aspen because of that when his lungs filled with fluid. Great video! I personally hope to go soon when we can. I love Peru--food and people and scenery are fantastic. Thank you for all your wonderful informational videos.

    I really enjoy your videos. Many of these places I'll never go to, some I've already been to, I've always loved to travel but I'm getting up in my years and can't do as much. But it's always fun to watch your adventures and live vicariously through them. The comments you get are interesting as well, I've noticed many people from where you are give you very positive reviews. Subscribed and looking forward to where we go next! Safe travels to you and your family.

    My trip to Arequipa was probably the best one I had in my life. I love that city. Too bad I got sick on the last day. My wife almost killed me because I made us take the bus there but we returned by plane to Lima to compensate.
    I saw 10 Condors flying at the same time in the Colca canyon.
    Next stop I will go to the Pantanal in Brazil to see wild Jaguars. My wife is not amused.

    Hey Walter! I love you videos, I was in Arequipa for New Years 2020... I think your dos and don’ts are great content. I wish you’d do a few vids that go a little more in depth. For example, at the central market, how do you pick the right fruit juice vendor when you can’t drink the water? Or, how the bus terminals work on arrival and departure, I figured it out, but it was a little confusing. You mention travel agencies, which there are a ton, how do you pick the right one?

    Arequipa is 1000 feet lower than Cuenca. How rough is the altitude compared to Cuenca? Is it okay for people over 60 to visit or retire in Arequipa?Are there American and Canadian expats?

    Arequipa only is the second City of Perú in habitants, but is the cleanest and people are more polite than other peruvian cities

  •  ปีที่แล้ว

    I saw a woman struggling to breath when I was in Cusco. A group of people was doing the Cusco city tour and a woman in the group was having difficulty breathing. The tour guide was really worried.

    Why don't you give us the elevation (in ft or meters)???

  • @rcsutter
    @rcsutter 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your comments about altitude sickness should not be taken lightly. I live at ~6000 ft and often recreate above 10,000 ft and it can be a problem, especially for those who live at low elevation. Many tourists here have problems with it. Just remember to take in deep breaths through your nose, and exhale through your mouth with pursed lips. That will really help bring in oxygen and expel CO2.

      Well do not undetestimate peruvuans highlands geography.Is not only the altitude there are plenty of highs and lows in andean valleys like Arequipa.
