I am a first generation Peruvian American, which my parents arrived from Peru during the 70s. Hopefully one day, I will get to visit Peru for the first time soon.
I've got to tell you -- I've never been to Peru but we often get produce from there and it is beyond FANTASTIC! Especially the asparagus and berries! Thanks for your great videos!
Peru has the best food anywhere. My favorite to cook and eat is ají de gallina!!! Glad you enjoyed it there. My favorite country (I used to live there!)!
Just leaving Peru today. Had an awesome time with my girlfriend and sure hope we get some more videos from you before our next visit. Keep up the great work Wolter!!
@@woltersworld thanks! They're peruvian themselves,so were going to go all around the country to visit their villages, and also visit maccu piccu. I'm not peruvian myself, but they are my chosen second family, so its really cool going to their home country.

I’ll never be able to see all the places the Wolters casually visit. That said, I love to travel and these videos are the next best substitute. We should all be grateful that this special family is so willing to share their special world with us. I am.
I had a classmate from Peru, she showed me beautiful photos of mountains and little towns. You review places like their products in a good way! Your channel is one of my favorite travel channels. Cheers from Florida!
You gotta visit the Mountains regions in Peru, cities like Huancayo, Huaraz or Ayacucho are so under rated, you get a kickass time exploring there besides the usual spots! also do not miss out on the north and jungle cities in Peru! super exotic and the food, oh man! Listen to Wolters, everything is accurate and like any country with strange things like cuy which is not a rat btw, it is reaised eatign vegetables and grains. So nothing that shocked me anyway! Peruvian Food it's one of my favorites now! top notch!
Love me some Cusco. One of my favorite places on the planet. I tried the GP....wasn't a fan!!! I got really bad altitude sickness hiking up to Rainbow Mountain. Oh and Uber works in Cusco as well...so you can usually get a ride pretty easy.
yeah, i did ok with the GP until i started thinking about it a bit too much. My youngest had one in his class too. SO it made for an interesting conversation :)
Love your videos! My shocks of Peru. The people on and west of andes are super nice. I felt like family. Peru has 2 months of travel easy because it has so much to see. I loved the white mountains and Trujillo in the north that few tourist go to but are fine. Many people dont know down by Nazca there are islands off the coast with seals and penguins. Besides machu picchu, which is expensive (+$300), almost every other tour was $20 or less. 1 hour flight to Cusco from lima or a 22 hour bus ride. Flying inside of countries in South America is cheap. Flying to other countries is more expensive. I think for me it was $55 dollars to fly from lima to Cusco or the bus was $40. I dont like hostels but have to watch my spending on hotels. If anyone wants my hotel names in lima, Trujillo, huaraz, arequipa, puno, and cusco ask me. There are plenty of cheap but nice hotels. ($15-30) Take about 25% off what they ask for in the markets for goods. If you live somewhere cold, buy llama and packa wool items. They are super warm. The food is so good. Ceviche is exellent.
We have one in Dallas Texas called Lima Taverna. It's as authentic as you can get in the states. I live in Perú and everytime I visit my family I go to the resturant and it's exactly like being in peru
There are good Peruvian restaurants in Oregon, Seatle, London, Madrid, France, Florida, New York, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, etc. It is DELICIOUS!!
I love Peru! My girlfriend is Peruvian so I’m lucky to go every year... I’ve also tried cuy, to me it taste more like chicken 😋😅 Cheers from Sacramento, CA
My family is Peruvian but I live in New York. I feel more Peruvian then American. We are drunk on patriotism with our National Team, our food, and our sites. ¡VAMOS PERU CARAJO!
Love your videos snd I’ve been following for years.Cuy is eaten in the Andes. In recent years one can find it in Lima mainly for tourists. And people don’t really eat the a whole guinea pig, it is actually share within the family (so they get really small pieces). There is lots of seafood dishes in the coast. :)
I've watched several videos about Peru now, and all of them have talked about the altitude. I've lived in the Rockies my whole life, so 8-12,000 ft is normal for me. Makes me wonder how different the altitude will feel compared to here. My boyfriend is from Peru, so I'm sure we will end up visiting eventually.
Yes Guinea Pigs was my first shocker while unpacking my luggage at the hotel and watching the dish being made on TV lol !!! What i also had was Sting-Ray and Alligator meat up north in Chiclayo... i told the locals that i will try it just as long as they don't tell me what it is !!! Also Beef heart "Anticucho" was also a very famous snack....Not to mention Ceviche which it took me 4 tries to get it "down" in my system without spending time in the restroom (yes you get the runs) but after the 3-4 times (like the locals say) you will keep it down !!! lol .... Also only DRINK "Agua con gas" aka carbonated water to avoid "fake" non-filter water... Don't forget the Beer "Cusquena" and Cusquena Negra !!...Yes the price you see is ALWAYS negotiable including the cab ..... Love your channel !!
As a Peruvian citizen I must agree with you on how beautiful our landscapes are, and how people provide a welcoming atmosphere for tourists. However, I think it would be as informative if you also did mention the conditions in which many of our people live in. The amount of children you see with burnt faces due to extreme cold weather conditions, and how many of them are working on the streets. I know tourism is meant for people to look only the beauty of a place, but all it does is set an illusion miles away from reality. I believe this would incentivize people be more conscious, and hopefully inspire a change of action helping Peru as well as other Latin American countries.
Never knew about altitude sickness in Peru, which is crazy because of how much people travel there! Also, Mark, you’re amazing but could you maybe speak a little slower I couldn’t digest it all first time round 🙈 awesome video!
Speaking of the altitude sickness, have you ever tried diamox? It's prescription but my doctor recommended it when I said I was visiting a high altitude area. Felt like a million bucks the whole trip!
What shocked me is how blue the sky is. I'm guessing that's down to the altitude not a polarising filter. Mark you are such a nice guy, thanks for sharing your travels. BTW, did you have any issues breathing? I'm an unfit diabetic so don't know if I could handle it but I'd love to try. Wonder also if I can get Inca Kola here in the UK?
As a Peruvian I’ll be honest the food in Cuzco is pretty bad, especially in the tourist food work of Machu Picchu, gotta go to Lima for the cuisine heh
Love this review. We were just in Peru for 2 weeks in August and had a wonderful time . Yes , I ate cuy! It was very tasty. The inside sort of tasted like pork and the skin tasted like a combination of crispy bacon and bacon fat. It was very messy and alot of work to eat though with the bones ... Alot of people back home gave me slack for eating it, but my answer to them is , if you happen to eat burgers , steak , chicken or even fish you really have no argument because they are just as much living creatures as a cuy is.. It's amazing how different the climates are in the different cities ... Lima was cool, and foggy almost low London is... Arequipa was a dry desert that sort of resembled the climate of New Mexico ... and the region around Macchu Picchu especially Aguas Calienete and Ollantaytambo had a Nepali feel to it . I REALLY recommend Ollataytambo. That was my favorite town in Peru.... As for chewing the cocoa leaf, I was told that yes, it is legal , and definitley dont bring it home . However , if you chew it , and happen to get drug tested at work or something , you might come up dirty ... I am not 100% sure about that , but it may be something to think about ... awesome review... awesome country !
