- St Bernard’s Waltz (1937 Melbourne Version) was danced at the Golden Jubilee Ball held to celebrate 50 years of Melbourne Colonial Dancers.
The Ball was held at Preston Town Hall, Melbourne Australia on 29th June 2024
The Melbourne Colonial Dancers Band provided the Music.
This version of the dance was devised by Melbourne Dance Instructors Harry and Emile Leggett in 1937.

Couples in ballroom hold, man facing wall
Part A
4 Bars: Glide to the Man’s left,3 side steps then on the spot lightly stamp (Man R foot then L foot.)
2 Bars: Reverse sequence against Line of Dance (LOD) but only two side together movements.
2 Bars: Two steps to centre - (Man takes 2 slow steps backwards starting Left Foot, brushing it past his Right Foot on first step and Lady takes two steps forward starting RF).
2 Bars: Man steps forward left and then right, lady backwards steps right then left.
2 Bars: Man glides two steps to his left while twirling the Lady clockwise under his left hand (holding her right hand) as she solo waltzes clockwise along LOD).
4 Bars: Circular waltz.
Part B
2 Bars: Come out of the circular waltz from Part A facing down LOD with Lady on right of Man in the skater’s hold (i.e. Man’s RH under his LH). Step side together side together lift
2 Bars: Repeat side together side together lift against LOD
4 Bars: Repeat above
2 Bars: Step balance to Man’s left swinging his right foot (Lady’s Left) across in front to line of dance and repeat on the opposite foot against LOD.
2 Bars: Similar to Part A (except hand hold is still crossed) Man releases RH hold with his partner while gliding 2 steps to his left, and twirling the Lady clockwise under his left hand.
4 Bars: Circular waltz.
