  • In this video I show you how I installed my kitchen cabinet crown molding. This video might help you if you want to install crown on your cabinets. This video may REALLY help you if you want to install that crown from the top of your cabinets tight to the ceiling with no gap and your ceilings aren't perfect. Sometimes with old houses it may seem impossible to not have a gap above the crown but NOTHING is impossible! The key to success is preparation and patience!

    With MDF base moulding, I've used an angle grinder with an 80 grit flap wheel as a coping tool. It works very well, a little tough to control on the fine tuning but great for the bulkier stuff.

    Looking great. I did this in my kitchen a few years ago with crown supplied my the cabinet company. Stained cherry wood. It was crazy expensive before the Wuhan flu expensive! I think it was like $12.00 a foot. I ended learning to do the longest runs first since I was screwing up so much I could then use the screwed up piece in a shorter location. I did not enjoy the process.

    Pro tip: when you figure out how the crown sits on the table saw, pencil mark a line then hot glue a scrap piece a wood down on the line to make a crown stop. This will ensure that when you set it down on the saw the spring angle is exactly the same every time.

    Can anyone tell me where to purchase kitchen cabinet 2" crown molding from 1998 installation. I cannot find it at Lowes or Home Depot and apparently styles have changed and all that's carried at these stores now is generally 3" or more. I'm looking for style very similar to that used here in this video.

    Great job one trick I learned is when installing the crown after nailing up the first piece I then take caulking and run a very small bead along the edge that will be nailed next that way if there are any small cracks or the seams are not perfectly mitered the caulking will fill that small void or crack. I use a squared off old credit card to run across the the two edges and then wipe with a damp rag. I also use the trick when installing trim around doors. A lot of DIYers will try to caulk a seam that has a small crack and it will not look as professional as this trick

    Safety issue. At minute 12:39. You cross your arms while cutting with the saw. NEVER EVER do that!!! Either use your left hand to drop the saw, while holding the piece to the fence with your right. Or hold the piece to the left of the saw blade with your left hand and drop saw with right. Again, never ever cross your arms in front of any power tool.

  • @Thorney369

    I’ve always heard that you’re supposed to keep crown molding on cabinets 9 inches below the ceiling if you don’t, you’re supposed to bulkhead the cabinets before you do crown. I’ve installed it this way as well and I don’t understand what the problem with it is. Could someone that knows if this is true, explain why it’s true? The only thing I can think of is if the ceiling sags it will push on the cabinets as well.

  • @zidi1982
    @zidi1982 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    one tip.. when you cut the crown on the miter saw use a guide line or a stop block .. all crown have a reveal... so if you put it the same way on every cut you going to have much better match later...

    Great video. Much appreciated. I’m assisting my carpenter doing our new kitchen. We have similar cabinets, although not white. And this has given me some excellent solutions to how we were going to do the crown. And we have an odd size ceiling height, so we will not be connecting to the ceiling which may make things easier for us. But I appreciate your detailed explanations.
