Ruben Amorim is slowly implementing his tactics at Manchester United, but there are definitely still a lot of issues that need to be fixed before we can see just how dangerous his tactics can be. In this video, we take a look at Ruben Amorim's tactics at Man United, how it compares to his tactics at Sporting Portugal, and what is missing to bridge the gap between the two.

Hey man, it's sad nobody is talking about Gasperini at atalanta, both him and inzaghi have mastered the act. I also think this formtion/tactics depends also on the type and quality of players in your team (Alonso for instance).
Needs time to adapt, the same thing xabi alonso did with leverkusen, dude picked up mid year, built the system and the next year won unbeaten both domestic cups
Yes, what I want from Amorim is to get the right signings 🙏
This is what ETH inners fail to understand
xabi alonso literally immediately started a winning streak after taking over and took them to euro league qualification after taking over in 17th place in the same season
The difference being the footballing culture at Leverkusen is not rotten like Man UTD
This tactics won't work he in premier league
The more i watch Amorim's beliefs in his system and tactics, the more Ten hags behaviour shocks me.
How the heck did Ten hag just abandon his philosophy of football so easily at united? That was the main reason we hired him. We watched that amazing Ajax and dreamt...
maybe his system didnt work out in the first few games, and he was bombarded by the media so he tried to be creative by neglecting his own system
Because he never had a system of his own. He didn't play his way at Ajax. He played Ajax's way. They had been playing that way for decades before him. He just happened to have their golden generation of players.
He tried to do the same thing at United and let us organically play "the United way" but failed to realise that the players have had a ton of different systems over the last decade so there is no United way anymore. So instead we just got chaos.
@@thebiglebrowski3695Chaos is a ladder 🪜 unfortunately for 10 hag it was a downwards one
very good explanation @@thebiglebrowski3695
@@thebiglebrowski3695lol but ajax wasn’t doing well before him
I always knew it would be hard for Bruno because for some reason , he wants to start the attack or give the final pass everytime
It’s not just this coach but with the past coaches as well
This system makes him just one of 11 players and he’s finding it hard to adapt
I think we can move him to the pivot besides ugarte and play amad, Hojlund, and the player we sign to replace rashford
@ he’s not good in tight spaces so it will be hard for him to adapt ,plus he wants to rush possession everytime looking for a long pass thereby losing the ball
And he lacks discipline,he barely stays in the pivot ,before you know it he’s behind the striker again ,Amorim needs to tryout eriksen there as he played there under ETH ,has better vision and can play accurate passes in between lines
@@incognito6183he needs to go
I would have said Maresca if you asked.. His Chelsea team, got players at fixed positions
Problem is you remove him, no-one else capable in the sqwad of playing those killer passes when it matters.
You do the job well
I really like your analysis
I think this positional football is new to manunited it will take time to adapt. dalot is still struggling to grasp so is garnacho
I agree. Some players like Mazraoui seem to be adapting quicker.
While it's true players take different amounts of time to adapt, Dalot is struggling due to his position not ability. Shaw like Mount, despite being so talented is injured thus no cover for him . Malacia will slowly be integrated but we need a new LWB. A technically sound workhorse. Dalot could serve well as a utility player as could Maguire
@@Dmaj089 mmmmh I see
Its simple. Amorim has not had the training time at United yet. All this will come in time
He has been there how long?
@ylgukcuf1618 just over the month, smack in the busiest time of the season, when training time is minimal yet he is introducing an entire new footballing syllabus to the players. He told folks things will first real bad before they get better. Clearly folks thought he was joking.
@@ufokemo you said "it is simple"? So, united looked at him in the summer and decided to not approach him due to his style of play. They new the players would not be be able to play in his system. Then, when things got worse, they then changed managers in the middle of the season for a guy they already knew would struggle.
The United players are average at best and do not have any wingbacks. The midfield has no legs so his system will not work. Also, he only has one style of play and will not adapt his system for situations.
@ylgukcuf1618 First United did not approach him in the summer strictly because they chose to keep ETH. They were monitoring him even then. Second, They also would never have bothered hiring him now if they didn't think his ball could suit the current squad at all.
Third, Even funnier here is any claim "he has only one style of play". Hallmarks of anyone who has never watched his teams play for a lengthy period of time. 3-4-3 is simply his base structure to counter the 3-2-5 build up the vast majority of sides use today. Amorim coached teams when they have learnt his system changed shape from a back 3 to 4 to 5, a midfield 2 through 5, and an attack of 2+1, 1+2, all out 3 or even a 4 with one in behind. He likes his team to be able to cycle through various shapes depending on how the opponent is attacking in a given phase of play before returning to the base 3-4-3 shape in possesion. Right now his team understands none of this because he has had 4 full training sessions since arrived till now. Easily explaining why at times the squad has looked at sea in certain games recently.
The man told y'all things would get mad worse before getting better at the start. Even as his warning has come to pass you have still refused to believe him.
7 weeks!
Great video, as usual. Also that's a clever idea for a stat. Oh, and my guess is Conte.
what is Inzhagi's position in the relationism ranking? surely must be in the top 5, given how fluid his system is?
Like Inzaghi cares.
@@stnbch3025yeah bro because he asks for Inzaghi, he is very curious but shy and wont ask himself...
I think the backline of Martinez - Maguire - De Ligt will be key to all of it. Dare I say, Harry freaking Maguire could be key for them much like Coates was for Sporting. Him being the middle CB negates all of his weaknesses, plus, he's actually quite adept on the ball and not afraid to carry it forward. He was also very vocal during the match and helped De Ligt, Lisandro with positioning. Mazroui at RWB will be fine, LWB is a HUGE problem at the moment. I think you'll see Ugarte in every match you can and it'll probably be Casemiro partnering him for the time being because he has better positional discipline than Mainoo, but Kobbie will really benefit from this in the long term because he has brilliant control and technique. Ideally Amorim would've wanted Mount and Diallo as the IF's, but Bruno will go there since Mount is out long term. Antony for a backup WB and they have the makings of a capable squad. I expect to see more youth players making the jump before the end of the season as well.
Antony should play RWB and Mazroui should play LWB
Was waiting for your video!!
2:23 amazing conclusion
Roberto de-zerbi, is the italian manager
it might be inzaghi.
@@pavlevasilev2968 no. inzaghi makes his centerbacks move up and is mixed in positional and relationism.
Might be Conte
I was wondering about de Zerbi. I haven't paid enough attention to Conte to know. I hope to find out which manager this is 😅
Allegri probably
Excellent analysis. I did say that it will take a while to undo the mess and chaos that Ten Hag left behind.
You call various new injuries, 2-3 new scandals, new leaks, more conceded goals/game, less clean sheets and less shots a improvement.
We see good signs but we saw them with earlier managers too.
Untill all troublemakers are out there will be chaos
Ruben Amorim will take Manchester United to the number 1 spot in the EPL. Not this season but for sure in the very near future . He came in half way through the current season so it’s not smart to judge his results now or even this season . He needs the correct players to work his system . Judge him next season to be fair .
You really think that is going to happen? United fans still going to say that with every new manager they get? He won't do anything, the problem isn't the manager.
Keep dreaming, sooner or later Amorim will acquire the same fraud status as his predecessors. Joining Manchester United is career suicide.
players are fluid because they have played their best football under solksjaer who did not have any apecific structure players were roaming around
Solskjaer is not really a reason. The squad changed a lot, only few players left, like Bruno and maguire
@@Bania107 I'm not blaming ole just stating
I've been waiting for this video 😊
Being too static will not work in premier league, they need to be able to do both as required by the game conditions
Probably will work for like half a season before all the other sides will figure it out..
You said it best bro! losing to Bournemouth, Wolves and Newcastle consecutively just did it for me! Its a wrap! Ima support them again next season....i just pray we're not playing in the Championship!
Where can I get the metric/data in minute 1:23? I can't attend the masterclass 😅😅
United have a strong tendency to build down the left. Which means Dalot, who isn't suited to be a wingback and can't cross the ball to save his life, is too involved in progression. Pretty sure that left wingback will be one of the first positions to be addressed in the transfer window. Your point about Bruno is spot on. He's the least positionally disciplined player in the side. Which may be why Amorim seems reluctant to play him behind the striker and will play him in the left of the midfield 2 when Garnacho comes back into the team.
Malacia should be up to speed soon and I think Amass will start getting minutes sooner, rather than later.
@aidanmagill6769 I'd like to see Anthony given a run at right wing back. As much as I don't rate him, I think it would be a good opportunity to get him away from that left-footed curler and use him to ping crosses into the box. He's got good work rate and it'd give Dalot a much needed break.
It could actually work as he's not a bad tackler, probably end up with more space and time on the ball too for his confidence.
Wich program do you use for those videos of the field positioning? Looks awesome!
probably conte the most poitional.
De zerbi very positional, but underlapping wingers and dropping 10+9 probably considered relationalist.
Gasparini highly postional, but underlapping center backs and 10s have a degree of freedom.
Enzo positional as well, but more dynamism then i expected from him this season.
Because it's a rubbish dichotomy.
@@stnbch3025 yh it is relatively forced dichotomy when they are largely combined in every team.
Im old subscriber your videos are revolutionary its mot about the okayers its about the coach and adaptation
Bruno never makes those inside channel runs you would see Mount do, hence why Amorim started to prefer mount over Bruno Because Bruno always goes wide and deep leaving the LWB and the ST isolated hence why I think Bruno’s future role is in the 8
great vid!
great analysis.
Good Tactical Analysis
Nice, insightful
Now if only Fan Channels would watch and understand this analysis!
Am still waiting for the tactical video for thiago Motta at juventus
Excelent video
Now do a video of signings and how we should lineup and who to sell
From Ole to Ten Hag these players only know attacking football thats the reason why they lose the ball a lot they always looking to run the reason why they beat City is not because City is bad at the moment but is because of almost 50/50 position of ball.
I think what you meant is transistion football
@benitojayadas1876 yea,
50/50 *_possession_* not position. I'm guessing English ain't your first language which is fine. 😊
i think we may also factor in that the premier league sides press better and are more intense hence making it difficult to go to the other flank coz they set a trap for when the ball is played wide. but also progressing wide can be used to an advantage so maybe they can use it well. actually it has been used effectively sometimes. however with the dilenma create by players not doing as sporting did, he can maybe change positions of players that love to be on the ball.
man utd are struggling to progress the ball but also easy to defend against in a low block but also prone to counter attacks.
i would suggest that if possible, have your best 1v1 forwards in wide spaces coz they are more dangerous and have thise full backs invert abd attack half spaces. this gives better rest defence but also good underlapping runs to create space to cut inside for the winger. this would suit the forwards man utd has to occupy the two 10s positions. then have bruno play double pivot.
it is also to note that positional structures are good but if u can incorporate two fluid players in phases it could be effective to beat the press. de zerbi used his strikers and 10 to do this while villa also used the striker to drop off and do this but with a target to isolate the full back against quick wingers which amorim can achieve.
amorim needs to shop adaptability coz the league is much more tough and with better opponents and coaches to expolit system weaknesses.
defensive strength and breaking down defenses whilst beating presses is something to sort out. the system has flaws that need to be worked upon
thank you for being very spot on on the differences.
He is a great man, just give him the correct players. Olmo,Nico, Mendes and a striker, one from kolo, David, his former club striker and promote obi martin
I don't usually like the over analysis of tactics because they make a lot of assumptions and state the obvious and can't tell cause from effect. It's like watching a documentary on National Geographic and trying to create an arched story with characters about a lion "family" when all that's really happening is them randomly going about their life and sitting on a shit puddle full of flies. They just force the story as if the lions really are thinking and doing when it's all random shit.
Same with tactics videos. Half of what they "analyse" is shit that just happened to happen.
However,... I immediately subscribed after watching this video. Minute 2:42 at the pass maps, my jaw dropped. This is true analysis of true things, not fantasy. You can clearly see what he's trying to do, and why he's not there yet.
Thank you mate appreciate it 💙
Wing backs being high, pinning back the defenders should create more space between the lines. So the problem is not the wingbacks being too high not allowing the ball to get in behind, but rather the defenders or 6 not playing balls into the 8s/9 (8s/9 not finding/creating space), in-between the lines in the central area or half spaces, pulling the opposing CB's and/or FB's out of position, for then runs to go in-behind
It's so clear that they need a top LWB. Hope they can get a player like maybe cambiasso from juve or Ruggeri from Atalanta.
Better player can boost tactic of this coach. Wait for wiser tranfser polyci of Man UTD
Don't you think the system MUST be more flexible and fluid in the premier league or else our build up and attacking structure would be too predictable?
@ oh, i know. But with player got from Ten Hag, its not easy to fix right now. Flexible can be improved with a new mindset of new coach. Man utd squad is not bad, but still wait for new contracts. Players like Antony must be replaced
@@arrow2380 In the Premier League most teams can't make 5 intermediate passes in a row. Don't believe me? Watch any game between 7th to 20th placed teams.
@@stnbch3025 They can and they do if you actually the games, you'd know that. Even awful Wolves is perfectly capable for sterile possession at their defensive third.
It's just most of teams aren't fortunately interested doing endless lateral passes, without any intent.
With current united squad rn, honestly I really wanna Fernando Diniz manage this teams..its very interesting what FM mentions about fluidity and current United player is very likely to move freely rathed than stick to the positions.. im sure winger like antony, rashford, amad and garnacho is very love his approach..
But yeah, we only got a person that only rely on 3-backs.. maybe he will become scapegoat if he still didnt perform with our current teams.. United's policy under INEOS (more budget savers) and FFPs also big challenges for him as we cannot get what amorim wanted..
You should check it out with all the fans who were shouting for eth to be backed no matter how rubbish the player he wants are.
having a right footer on the left wingback is holding us back so much lol
Why do you think so because that's the system his Sporting played with?
Great analysis , let’s go MAN U !!

Where do we get the list of the manager?

Could you tell me in which program did you animate your tactical board? Thanks in advance!
Enzo maresca is the Italian manager or Maurizio Sarri
Amorim is a great coach guys. If he takes Viktor Gyokeres and few others from SP Lisbon Man Utd will have a great team.
Amorim IS THE TRUTH
The pass map says it all why united are struggling to even get a shot on target!.
Amorim knows a lot, very impressive but you can’t overload the players with lots of information. Every game that passes United improve that’s way important that winning actually.😅
Italian manager with fixed positions sound like sarri
3:30 this may be because in England the pressure and running by the opposition (high press) is much more intense. Look at the Newcastle game, not only was United out manned in the midfield but in possession they struggled to hold the ball with the press of Newcastle.
I don’t think the 3-4-3 / 3-5-2 / 3-4-2-1 is going to work at the high end of English football. The press is too intense. The 3 to 4 opposition players in the midfield out number united resulting in the loss of possession and the inability to recover the ball. They’re also open to diagonal runs with wingers cutting inside to combine with the striker(s) again like we saw with Gordon / Murphy / Isak and even with Joelinton pressure higher up to pitch. Even if Amorim has the players, I don’t have a lot of confidence in the system.
The Italian manager is Maurizio Sarri
The only problems are that No current United players fit his system. Also lack of goals and a load of players like Casemiro maguire and rashford that’s really on huge money and you’d struggle to get rid of in any other way than letting contract run out or free transfer
Amad, Ugarte, Mount and Yoro do.
Inter Milan coach simon inzaghi is the relational coach
Ruben Amorim is very good manager but he will do better no matter what
Surely the structure and tempo of the two leagues makes a big difference to those stats?
the players are absolute shite, that is the reason
look at the goals conceded, pure individual mistakes
@@askholand8132 not disagreeing or trying to make a point, just asking a question about whether the leagues effect the stats
Roderto De zerbi
Ancellorti is the Italian Manager
Is it Sarri? I think Amorim is a really good positional coach and when it gets going it gets really well oiled but hes still a one trick poney. Modern football positional coaches without relativism get their gameplan well studied and against equal or better teams that know how they behave it will be very hard. When that happens he usually crosses from CB to forward for a lateral pass for a more direct approach. More than gyokeres I believe he will buy Pote and maybe hjulmand at the end of the season or quenda.
It has to be De Zerbi
Is this tactics same as tactics of oliver glasner?
Man United needs to go down to the second league and then to rise like a Phoenix. Or it can be 20 years playing like a 3rd league team, lead by thousands of tv, youtube and press ignorants, with the best coaches and best players, during 30 years. Or just to hire more one thousand coaches and in the end to prey by a miracle!
I think if we buy Omar Marmoush and Theo Hernandez in January, it would significantly transform United and help us win the Europa. The Europa is our only route back to UCL
We don't have the money for those in January.

Got to be Conte surely for less relational
the italian manager is most likely playing a back 3-5. my guess is Conte
Dalot is minus 1 , get a good LWB in and they will perform much better
Needs better players.
They ain’t technical enough to keep the ball. Some of these players are all about treating the ball like a hot potato and also some of these players aimlessly run and then get caught off position. A lot of mistakes happening but that’s bound to happen when we actually playing a style of play. We haven’t had this level of system since LVG. Anyhow better technical players and removing players who want to hold on to old regime Style will help Amorim to get to the brand of football he wants.
