@@savagejack5714 your argument falls flat once you realize modern smartphones perform better than the Switch, since the Switch's processor dates back to 2015, it has been surpassed by modern smartphone processors.
Genshin Impact runs great in mid-tier smartphones, but in Switch it is seemingly having issues to be developed. Ofc, the Switch is for games only so games are optimized for it. Also it has a fan, also is selling at a higher profit than for example a Poco phone probably. Even then, the Tegra X1 probably still falls behind Xiaomi phones that are sold for around 250$.
It isn't even manufactured by Nvidia anymore, nobody asks the Switch to be on par with a PS5/Series X (well, those with realistic spectations) but at least something like a PS4, or somewhat worse than an Xbox Series S.
Next-gen consoles power is mostly used to make 4K games run, and the Switch probably won't have such resolution ever so they can just focus on providing 60 FPS 1080P at all times.

I also think that they could do a price drop on the switch and make a newer more powerful model for less than 400. The components in the switch are 5 plus years old, after all that time, it should be cheaper for the consumer and to produce, essentially giving them more wiggle room to upgrade the specs to at least be closer to say a PS4 without changing the price much if at at all. Also lowering the price of the old models make people on a tight budget more likely to get it, with a price drop a switch lite would be less than 200, and it makes people who already have a switch more likely to upgrade and buy another one

It wouldn’t be such a big deal if all you get are less graphically impressive games, but when your system now struggles to even play games there is no excuse why they should still be relying on it. No amount of hard work or optimization can push a system beyond its predesigned hardware limitations. I own a Switch. Buuut for people like myself who understand the power and freedom of PC gaming, the Switch is basically a Pee-wee league system.
I decided to play a little Breath of the Wild with my Switch docked the other day and it was a train wreck experience; the experience was, in short, replete with: stuttering, low frame rates, pop-ins, highly pixelated graphics...basically a whole lotta yuck. I was going to buy the new OLED Switch & Tears of the Kingdom combo to upgrade my experience, but came to the conclusion that there's no point of having a beautiful OLED screen if the hardware can't even give it what it needs to be enjoyed.
Both the Steam Deck and my PC are amazing gaming experiences, only limited by the games themselves, which thankfully are abounding in quantity and quality. And can be enjoyed on future systems likely indefinitely.

It's true that the specs are the biggest problem of the Switch by far even when it was released, I understand the price point & the hybrid nature & I think both contributed to the success of the system especially after the failure of WiiU & Nintendo being afraid of putting a system out with a price higher than 300$, still I reaaally don't want a Switch "pro", I'd rather they just continue with what we have until 2024 then release the next gen system. That way they can capitalize on the success of the system without saturating the market + be more daring with the price & specs.

I think this video is very well made, it also completely misses the point of the switch. The switches point is that it’s a handheld and a console. What this video fails to realize is that 1. The switch was made in 2017 before next gen consoles 2. The switch is much much smaller than other consoles so even comparing it to the series S isn’t very fair 3. That long load times and frame drops do not really affect nintendos bottom line and Nintendo is a business and they will do what will make them the most money 4. The switch is not the console for anyone who will notice and/or care about frame drops, subpar graphics, or anything else like that, not saying that the switch is for kids or something like that but saying that a hardcore gamer isn’t what Nintendo focuses on and that the switch hardware works for ANYONE who wants to play video games it might not be the best experience at home but it has stood the test of time. Anyway good video keep up the good work

That's a foreign concept to Nintendo. The whole mid-gen hardware improvement implemented the way Sony and Microsoft has done is completely unusual. Nintendo Switch is already a Wii U Pro, so I'm not sure why anyone would think they'd straddle that fidelity hardware any more than they have to. Getting a successor is the best thing for the platform, as long as Nintendo continues supporting the platform like Sony and Microsoft. Knowing Nintendo, you'll be able to play your Nintendo Switch games on the successor but with no improvements or enhancements, much like Wii on Wii U and DS on 3DS. I really hope I'm proven wrong.

To all the Nintendo fan boys recycling the same old “Nintendos focus isn’t about graphics blah blah blah”
Just because there are reasons why the games are beginning to look and run shitty, it doesn’t make it okay. Yes we know why they run poorly, yes we know nintendos focus is on “innovations” (motion controls and portability is a bad trade off for poor performance and graphics imo)
But just because we know why, it doesn’t mean it’s acceptable.. We’re not talking a couple years behind. We’re talking nearly a decade. It’s time to improve, especially seeing as they demand £50 for every other game they sell. And that’s without even mentioning “the release now and update later” issue they currently have.. We have to be critical, we have to complain. Else we’ll be playing at 20-30fps with terrible draw distance for the rest of Nintendo’s releases indefinitely..

  • @victordavidsantos9669

Your arguments are 100% on point. There's a comment below stating that the size of the Switch limits what can be packed into it in terms of components, which makes sense, but then again, why not have a separate model that focuses on performance, which could be bigger/heavier, or even a home-only version? Even if the price was higher, people would still buy it for the games, it's Nintendo after all.
    Great video, as usual!

  • @Orange_6374

The hardware is a completely valid point to make. As someone who owns both a Switch along with a PS4, I have come across multiple times where I’ve debated on which release to get. More specifically Project Diva. There’s a release for both PS4 and Switch, and the difference performance and graphic wise is huge. Project Diva on Switch even uses a completely different shader than that on PS4, that being the Toon Shader on Switch, which aligns with your point being that third party developers go for a more cartoony style while developing a Switch release. Even in docked mode, the Switch doesn’t compare to how it looks on PS4, on PS4 the game runs at a consistent 60FPS, 1080P (I believe); while on Switch, only the notes on screen have a consistent 60FPS. The videos played in the background tend to drop in quality and even frame rate in order to run, being as low as 480P 30FPS in handheld. I’ve even debated on which release to buy first because of this issue, however, I did cave in for the Switch release for the new mode and songs, and got the PS4 release a year later.

  • @Toxic-Pyro
    @Toxic-Pyro 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Another thing is that I think company’s are using “the switch isn’t that powerful” as an excuse to not put that much effort into their ports. When Persona 4 Arena got rereleased, the PC and PS4 versions were announced to be getting rollback netcode (a very requested feature), meanwhile the switch version is still using laggier online. The switch could probably have this, it’s an 8 year old game, but they’re just hoping nobody calls them out on it. And what sucks about this in particular is that a good switch version would be perfect for local tournaments since it would be way easier to transport than say a PlayStation or entire PC.

The problem with comparing the cost to the other consoles has always been the screen, the battery, and the need for good cooling in a really tight space. Makes it really difficult to make a good comparison, as those aren't cheap. What's really showing how far behind the Switch is - is the Steam Deck. The Switch and the Deck aren't that far apart in price, but the performance of the Deck far outpaces the Switch. Maybe in 2017 the Steam Deck wouldn't have been possible - but now in 2022 it certainly is, and it would be really nice if Nintendo updated the internals to close the gap with the Steam Deck.
. . . and yeah, the "buy a game on Switch or another console (in my case, PC) dilemma" is something I know well, heh. But now that I am in the queue for a Steam Deck - the choice is much simpler. Games that aren't on PC I get on Switch - and games that are on PC I get on PC because I'll soon have the Steam Deck which can play them on the go like the Switch.

We all know that the Switch was inferior to any other competitors aside from the infamous Joy Con Drift. If they should make the Nintendo console far better than the Switch before in terms of visuals & performance, bring back missing features like Virtual Console & backward compatibility, make a stronger Control Stick just so it won't drift easily as time passes, and giving us many controller options, less people won't complain anymore.

I completely agree. I actually thought when the Nintendo Switch was announced and released that it was attempting to combine the power of the Wii U with portability of the 3DS console line and knew that I would be better off skipping out on the console. I now have a PS4 Slim, PS5 Disc Version (one of the initial more pricey models that I managed to find in-store at a Meijer of all places), Nintendo DS Lite, Nintendo 3DS (one of the original models), and a powerful laptop (with Windows 10 as I refuse to acknowledge 11 as a legitimate and more practical OS than 10) that can emulate PS2 games that I own as well as most PC games that I am interested in. Plus, I rarely if ever play video games on the go anymore.
Plus, the excuses about Joy-Con drift, claiming that dead pixels on a new device is normal and expected (when it shouldn't be as I have yet to experience it with any of my phones that I have had or the DS and 3DS despite being many years old), the refusal to reduce prices reasonably for games, especially first-party ones, the lazy and hypocritical emulation of older Nintendo games, and the second worse network support (where I would consider Stadia much worse although you could argue it is not even a console).
These all repelled me from even consider ever getting a Nintendo Switch.

Also I'd also say for they retro games on their service lacking a lot of consoles I'm the service and being tired to the forced multiplayer rather than being its own service or virtual consoles or something similar. If they theoretically want to upgrade to the switch graphically and performance the could get a gpu like a custom 1050 would keep it cheap and can play most modern games.

The base Steam Deck model went on sale for the one year anniversary. The price: $360. The price of the Switch OLED console with a game: $360. So you get A LOT more console with the Deck for $60 more. I'd say the gap has closed. Great Steam games can be had on sale for $10. And micro SD cards are cheap for storage expansion.

  • @ajflink
    @ajflink 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

My issue with the Switch not getting any significant upgrade over the years is with multi-platform games. With the PS5 and Xbox Series X, this is an even greater issue. While hardware and graphics are not everything for a console, there is such a huge gap in capabilities between the Switch and modern consoles that any game released now that releases on both may tend to sacrifice fidelity. There is also the problem that its usage outside playing games is very limited. The PS5 (i.e., disc version, which is the optimal version IMO) can play DVDs, Blu-rays, and Ultra Blu-Rays, stream things such as Amazon Prime and Spotify (and TH-cam). You can connect a keyboard, mouse(?), and PS5 remote. This makes things such as additional cost for things through internet providers, a dedicated DVD/Blu-ray player and even cable redundant if you have a PS5 already.
There is no official disc player for the Switch. You could stream stuff on it, but you probably have a more powerful device to do that already. The only advantage is not being affected by power outages of buildings or places but then you can only play games and likely just offline.
In short, my problem is not the Switch is lagging behind. It is because it is lagging behind so much now.

I may get rapped in the mouth for this comment, and that's totally fine, but people absolutely love to shit on Sega for Sonic '06 and Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. But here's the reality:
    - Sonic '06 was originally in development for the PS3, the Xbox 360, and the Nintendo Revolution (which would become the Wii). Once Sonic Team realized the Wii was not going to handle a game like Sonic '06, they had to split the team into two groups-- one working on Sonic '06, and another working on the Wii-exclusive games, Sonic and the Secret Rings/Sonic and the Black Knight.
    - Sonic Boom suffered a similar dilemma early on in development. It was originally being developed as Sonic Synergy, and it was a *very* ambitious game. But once the Wii U was revealed to still be really underpowered, Big Red Button had to spend a ton of development time backporting Cry Engine 3 to work on the Wii U's mediocre hardware spec. Sega may have caused many of the problems by rushing the game to completion, but Nintendo didn't do third party developers any favors either.
Knowing that, I've always felt like nintendo making inferior hardware was the culprit for putting those games' development cycles into a frenzy. And now, it feels like other developers are hitting a similar situation with the Switch.

  • @vicctretamaj

Gonna have to be a HARD disagree from me. Now, Ofcourse I want a more powerful Switch, who doesn’t? Literally my fav console of all time rn. But you’re ignoring some thing like COVID, and the chip shortage that occurred, already making the current switch hardware hard to find.
Another reason the Switch is so far behind is due to how frequent the other consoles release new version like Pros and Slims.
Something that’s always also funny is how whenever Nintendo makes “strong” consoles in a Gen, they underperform, but their weaker hardware always does well for whatever reason.
Something else that’s might be getting more use is FSR, improving some graphics on newer games, not that they aren’t gonna make a new console at some point, but it may help the longevity a bit.
The switch isn’t really hurting bro, that’s just plain wrong. Is it missing out on a lot of new big games? Yup, as a weaker console would, but it still continues to dominate sales both in terms of hardware and software. With all due respect, I don’t agree wit this video, but as anyone else, you are just voicing your opinion.

The solution to this is Nintendo upgrading their usb c port, to a thunderbolt 3 port, and then they can make a thicker doc with beefier graphics in it. That way the switch can stay portable have a handheld graphics mode(which of course should be upgraded slightly but not too much because we need battery life), but then when it's plugged into the dock it can take advantage of tons of extra graphics via thunderbolt. We've seen this used for video editors using laptops, with black magic design enclosures containing bigger graphics cards connected via a thunderbolt 3 cable. It would possibly make the console more expensive, and you may even have to have different versions of docks with varying degrees of power, but this is the best solution for the longterm advancement of the switch platform which has proven to be desirable. They could even launch it as a "Switch Pro" while maintaining the normal Nintendo switch and switch lite as budget options.
