    Very beautiful sound of the violin! The violin is made according to the method described by Patrick Kreit in his book "The sound of Stradivari"?

      Hello and thank you! I took from the book what was managable and makes sense for me, but I don't do every Single step from it. What I do is measuring. Measuring the weights, measuring the woods properties, frequenzies, thickness and writing everything down to get a feeling what does what. But a big thing is also the Intuition, I know it's tough to trust someones Intuition compared to facts but I believe both together (Intuition and science) are an unbeatable pairing.

    sounds terrific to me. I like your approach to violin making.

    It must be a nice feeling to build the violin and after finishing to play it too. Well done.

    Never heard a maker play that well before, nice job on the Sibelius, even the phone ringing at the end was in tune, haha. // I do like the look of the blonde spruce though, very striking, are there any varnishes that are quite clear/pale?

    • @geigenbauhellmich2296

      Thank you! I think this is a big plus for me because I have an exact idea of the sound and can immediately see and feel the instruments soul. Yes there are clear and pale varnishes, oil vanrishes often have a yellowish color due to the ingredients but spirit varnish can be completely clear

      @@geigenbauhellmich2296 Yeah, I find it strange when makers don't play at least a little, because they always have to rely on players to come and tell them what's happening. I was watching some of Edgar Russ's videos on here, and his friend (maker) eventually took up cello and said now can understand things from the player side much better. On the other hand, violin is harder than cello and much harder than guitar, so it isn't easy for makers to play even average on it. Maybe I've just undermined my own argument. Ha.

    Awesome video! Thanks for sharing. The violin sound so nice without varnish. I am very curious about the side to side comparison after varnished.

    The instrument sounds beautiful without varnish. I wish I could hear how the body sounds when it is gently knocked.

      I can knock it for you, but I think through the video the full sound gets lost 🫣

    It sounds awesome. I can't wait for the varnished video. I hope you can juxtapose the two cases in the video.

      I hope so too! I will use oil varnish on this violin so it will also be interesting to have a longterm comparison or maybe after a year and then after more years. There are so many things to explore and research!

      Thanks! I know quite some makers, but usually they don't show the world their talent on the violin. But in general this is a big plus for me because I Trainer my ears since early childhood and feel the playability and sound

      Yes, that's what I experienced! Also my latest one (the Strad model) turned out really great. Less dark sound as the Guarneri ones, but super clear and brillant. What do you look for in an instrument that touches your heart? And what kind of Videos would you think are interesting to watch?

    A couple of years ago I had a chance to buy an unvarnished violin at a folk festival. But I didn’t have a bow to try it out with, nor did I know who could varnish it. Although it was a very good price, I passed it up. I still wonder if I should have bought it.

    • @geigenbauhellmich2296

      Interesting story! Buying an instrument no matter if varnished or not is always risky. Especially when you don't know the dealer or don't have the expert knowledge to verify of the price is ok and the instrument worth it. Especially at a folk festival or any kind of festival I would be very careful. I think you did the right decision! And if you still want an unvarnished violin, there are Shops which sell them and have a fair price and offer a working instrument.

    Viol. One of human kinds greatest inventions ..... I have posted

  • @acergames34

    This is unfair, youre both talented as maker and violin player..... so unfair....anyway i love the sound and your playing

    • @geigenbauhellmich2296

      Good morning! I understand that without background knowledge this feels unfair. But what you don't see are the many many hours of work I spent to come to this point. I was talented with playing the violin as a child but what made the main difference was the many hours of practiced while other children played outside, the hours I practiced during holidays and visited mastercalsses while others went on vacation. It would be unfair if those hours didn't pay off.
      For violinmaking I didn't bring any talents (but the violin playing skills), I did so many mistakes, you won't believe it. But again I started to practice every evening next to school, every weekend and even now I work alot on my skills.
      I hope this is a motivation that patience and practice will always win over talent!

    It seems the sound is distinctively on the strong side. For my personal taste the sound post should be adjusted to produce the softer tone.
    My wild guess: the sound will be even stronger when varnished.

    • @geigenbauhellmich2296

      Thats what I was looking for: a distinctived sound for a professional violinist who wants to fill a whole hall with the violin but also has a sweet warm tone and many colors to work with. Easy playability to the highest notes. It's not everybodys taste for sure and also a matter of the varnish I use how the sound will progress. But in the end it's my clients decision weather or not they want me to change somenthing (in the range that's acceptable for the longevity of the instrument)

    Your violin rivals the instruments from the Great Masters! If your going to kill the tone with varnish I would think it way down to water like consistency. I cant help but say if it were me I would quit while I was ahead and just keep the instant in a plastic bag in a sturdy case and play it for several years maybe ten years then varnish it latter, if at all. Your instrument sounds so resonant I would not even varnish it. It is beautiful as is. Dont spoil it! Don't damp it with varnish! Let it breath! Wait a few years then if you must, ... only very light stain free spirit varnish. You seem to have an aptitude for carving fine violins. I'm honoured to make your acquaintance. Your instrument rings true!

      Hello and thank you! The other Video you have seen is not the same violin, it's completely different model and wood. Ans yes this one is really my masterpiece! I will add as little varnish as possible and start to varnish it in a few days. So excited!

    There is no concentration in the sound, a little buzzing and unevenness in the notes

    • @geigenbauhellmich2296

      This is once more an Indikator for me that I need professional recording Equipment and the mobile phone doesn't transport the whole sound. But it gives an impression. I could not find any buzzing or uneven notes, maybe my phone corrected some too loud volumes in the recording? I really like the sound and for me it's exactly what I'm looking for. It's good that people don't have the same taste and are different 🤗

    So it's not the varnish (like what the scientific research says)!!

    • @geigenbauhellmich2296

      The sound changes the varnish indeed. It depends if you seal the violin inside, what you use as a sealer in general, if it soaks into the wood and how it changes it. Also the kind of varnish (Spirit or oil or mix) and the amount make a difference. In general you can say, it dampens some frequencies
