    Would never thought you can grow all the tropical plants in NY. What fertilizer do you use for your palm trees and how often. Love the tropics!! 🌴

    • @newyorktropicalgarden9364
      @newyorktropicalgarden9364  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there. It takes a bit of work but worth it to have them all summer. For the most part I put miracle gro on everything (when I remember) but I do use palm fertilizer on all the palms, which reminds me I should do that today.

    The banana plant could possibly be a Musa Dwarf Cavendish. A house plant in England.
    I love your Tropical paradise I grow tropical plants too.Musa
    skkimensis red tiger is one of my favourites. Just as hardy as Musa Basjoo comes back each year.

    Congrats on a lot of success! I live in Maryland. Had a 8 ft monkey puzzle that got wasted by a march blizzard a while back. I have never had luck with the windmill palms. Typically I bought 2 or 3 gallon containers. They did well until some time in mid winter when they turned brown and gave up the ghost.
    Seeing yours has inspired me to try again. First time viewing ur channel so perhaps you discuss keys to ur success in other content.
    Have u tried Fatsia? It’s been winter hardy in my 7a garden and looks a lot like monstera.
    I have also had luck with aspidistra, cast iron plant, in protected spaces.
    Love that Chilean palm!!! Looks absolutely amazing.
    Thanks for sharing ur garden. I would also like to know some of ur sources as the mail order nursery business really sucks these days. All the OGs are gone

      @@bluejay3945 Hi there. Thank you for watching and corresponding. Everyone has told me my Monkey Puzzle won’t last where I am in NY… but it’s been through at least 4 winters now. I think being so close to the Hudson River helps and I think the wall behind it helps too. I’ve seen a lot of large Monkey Puzzles in Maryland and Virginia on TH-cam so you should try again.
      As far as windmills… I definitely think you should try again and do some winter protection. You might be able to get away with no protection after a few years, but the first two are critical especially if they’re small. I have had spear pulls and all sorts of issues with small trachys the first year but then they settle in and thrive. If you look at my winter protection videos I do my trachys one way, and all of my other ones a more boxed method. Both work on trachys.
      And I’ve been buying via Etsy a lot because I’m looking for special things. And I always have too many palms I’ve grown from seed. So if you’re looking in the spring ask me. Always happy to help.
