At least it's endemic to this region, ie...it's native. Killing all those bass and walleye would be a better choice. Dams may have increased squawfish numbers exponentially, but again, they aren't an invasive non-native species unlike bass and walleye. Yes, walleye are endemic to the upper Columbia, but not the lower...only reason they are there is dams. Bass were dumped by idiot bucket biologists that should have been castrated along with the Chinese railroad workers that brought us carp. Read up on mid-Columbia predator/prey studies by both WDFW and ODFW. You might learn a few things.
I feel you, Russell. Sad you got lectured at by Mr. Acuta who thinks walleye are native (which is how he defined endemic) to any stretch of the Columbia... or any waters west of the Continental Divide for that matter. Learning things is a skill this guy should be perfecting, not brashly pushing on others. The point they released the pikeminnow is where I stopped watching the video. As fishermen, we are active components of fisheries management. Releasing one species can be as bad as keeping too many of another. What if they’d caught a northern pike? By regulation they would be REQUIRED to not return it alive to the water. When you pick up a pole, you take on the duty of management and all that goes with that, and to return a fish the state has targeted with an active bounty program is irresponsible. The job of our fisheries management is to manage the waters to agreed upon goals as they are now, man made warts and all, so we don’t have a thousand different credos like Mr. Acuta’s or these boys’ being haphazardly applied as peoples’ judgement sees fit.
They figure if they keep it a secret there's more fish for themselves. But I can tell just from the video where they were fishing and I could tell exactly what type of gear they are using. I'm guessing they were using an 8 oz bottom Walker wait with about a 6-foot leader and a walleye jig basically a wedding ring with a blade
Where is a good place to launch? I have always wanted to drive down and check it out but don't know where to go.
We launched at Maryhill State Park Boat Ramp.
Thanks... lots of smallies in there as well.
and if you didn't know register before you go out fishing and GET PAID FOR THE PIKE MINNOW
I am confused by the regs. Do you always have to use barbless? Or just if targeting salmon or steelhead?
Only salmon, sturgeon and steelhead
If you're every by John day swing by and say what's up.

After investing $40,000.00 on a boat and equipment, maybe replace the $6.00 landing net.
Хорошая рыбалка

I would have bled the squawfish and kicked it back. At least feed a surgeon.
Why do you make videos about catching fish without telling and showing the bait setup being used?
