    Hey Nate!
    As Large as the Control Surfaces are, and as Much Throw as They Have, You Are Doing Fantastic!
    If it was me, I would Dial Down Those Throws and Burn Several Battery Packs Just Getting Used to The Airplane & How She Handles.
    Then, Crank The Throws Up and Do Lots & Lots of Loops. Loops of ALL Different Sizes & Speeds.
    Most of All - Relax and Have Lots of Fun!
    Remember, It's Just Foam!
    Have Fun, Then Teach Us How To Do It!
    Repetition Wins.

      Hey I have no idea what a 3d plane is, or what makes it a 3d plane. Can u explain or send me a link?

    • @puremaga17
      @puremaga17 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Gmcworrior1 3D refers to maneuvers that can only be done by RC aircraft that have very high thrust to weight ratios and large control surfaces, as they mostly are done when in a stalled condition (Not relying on laminar airflow over lift and control surfaces) Like when Nate was hanging the plane on its prop (Hover). Lots of good info on 3D planes and helicopters on the web.

    I was amazed at how the H-King Voltigeur can fly in such unusual attitudes. I don't know much about this, but after a little bit of reading, it seems that the control surfaces are designed with this capability in mind. For a first flight this was impressive!

  • @mtnmyke
    @mtnmyke 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I put a 3548 800kv motor with a 13x4 prop, 60a esc, 4s, on mine! It rips through any 3d maneuver you can throw at it. I felt it was too sluggish with the stock setup. 3s was sad and I was really pushing the stock electronics running 4s. Keep that in mind as you progress.
    Also, you can move the CG way further back than the battery tray allows. There are a ton of mods for this online.
    I think it's a great plane for the price and even better with the upgrades.

    You did great Nate, and you're a much better pilot than you give yourself credit for. Practice inverted; the harrier (flying slower and slower until you prop hang); you almost had the hammerhead mastered; stall turns; snap rolls and 4-point rolls. Also make sure you have some expo, not sure if you use it but it's a good idea with 3D planes even if you don't use it with other models (no idea why anyone who has a Tx that can do it wouldn't), it makes 3D planes in particular a lot less twitchy.

    Kudos to you Nate for jumping in the deep end, and BIG kudos to Abby for the video work.
    I have a few larger 3D Hobbyshop Extra’s but I also have one of these Hobbyking Voltigeur’s and lately it’s the latter I’ve been flying the most. You appear to have the MK1 version of this plane as the MK2 has CF landing gear, an up-rated ESC and motor combo, and I believe up-rated servos. One extra bit of kit I can recommend is the EagleTree Guardian. As well as having a basic stabilisation mode it also has a 3D mode which will help you with learning the stick combos. As you become more proficient you can start to reduce the gain to the point where the Guardian is effectively switched off. There is is similar device sold under the HobbyEagle name which is cheaper than the EagleTree, I have a handful of these but I’ve not had the opportunity to test them as yet.
    Regards
    Nidge

    I kinda did the opposite of Nate and got a extra 300 3D and then a jet. I find the extra 300 3D with low rates almost makes a good trainer. Especially with safe mode. If you can land and take off 80% - 90% of the time without a problem. Get a extra 300. Love mine.

    Congrats on the 3D plane! Take your time, and remember that you have an insane amount of control on that plane, so a light touch on the controls, only use what you need. Stunt flying is about precision, and you need to practice flying in a straight and level attitude, then do a maneuver and finish it straight and level. And above all else, HAVE FUN!!

    Really good first time 3d piloting. 👍🏻 I'm curious what brand and weight servos are installed, as detailed specs are virtually impossible to come by? The plane, from what I understand has gone through a few iterations concerning, motor size and mounting, servos brand and landing gear. The Voltigeur I just ordered has a 3720 kv880 with carbon fiber landing gear and no clue what servos other than high speed metal gear. Also I read that using a 4s could burn the undersized ESC. I plan to upgrade the ESC to a 60A before flying. Two other issues I read about in comments were, spinner not fitting properly and wheel pants not fitting. Also decals coming off. Are you experiencing any of these problems. Love the candid videos, keep 'up' the good work.

    I watched a video of a guy doing 3d with a yak 54 while holding his tx behind him and another guy spent 5,000 hrs trying to do a harrier. Keep practicing on that sim. Get the feel for the sticks.

    Try an epp foam model e.g. the tech one Malibu ii it’s a great plane that Handel’s 3D manoeuvres well and it Handel’s hard crashes really well!
    I love flying and watching pilots fly aerobatic models!👍

    Nice 1st flight. You hovered pretty good for a 1st timer. Just get use to the plane for the next few flights. 3D tricks will come later. Learn how the plane handles in slow flight and set low and high rates.

    Nate you did a wonderful job this is John chalker from Waterbury Connecticutyou did a wonderful job just keep on keepin on doing what you're doingmaybe you should do a little bit more simulator training as well to make yourselves a lot better I know what I first started out flying helicopters and stuff that it used to be I was lucky to have a simulator on my computer to try it out before I did it for real so take your time and enjoy your new plane and do it slow so you don't damage your plane

    Looked great to me. For your first 3D that was awesome. I could not believe how easy you got to vertical hover. I need that plane, I have been trying to learn hover for quite a while. Thanks Ron

    Nice job, Nate! Isn't that fun??? A great way to do some of those tricks on the cheap is to mess around with a Flite Test Nutball. It is the simplest foamboard plane in the world to build - only 3 pieces of foam to assemble! It will hover and loop all day, but it won't roll. You can do some really stupid stuff with it, and I just mess around in the back yard below treetop level.
    I can tell, Nate, that you are getting really good "muscle memory" - you just move the stick in reaction to what you are seeing withoug having to really think about it. You'll get there, Abby - it's all practice. I have found the simulator to be essential for me, I didn't grow up with a PS3 controller in the crib like the kids nowadays. So what skills I have developed are hard won. There is nothing like that "look at what I just did!" feeling, especially for the first time. Thanks for sharing this vid, it is really special. I had a big grin the whole time!
