    This the first video of a series in which I share techniques and tricks for deep and Jackin House music production.
    One technique that is simple but effective is using a triplet grid for closed high hats to create a cool skippy and jazzy groove.
    Since I'm constantly working on acquiring new skills and techniques there are gonna be many more things to share in the coming videos.

    simple but amazing tutorial! after countless hours of tutorials. I finally grasped the very foundation of Groove in drums. Thanks Olean! Bethelick's tuts helped big-time with groove topic as well.

    It's actually very interesting to think about contrast, and other principles, across many creative mediums. I work in design, animation, games and sound. It's uncanny how much overlap there is in design and aesthetic feel, for example in graphic design we use white space (aka negative space) very carefully to ensure breathing room for more important elements, a place for the eye to relax, and to contrast against the foreground (aka positive space) and focal elements. A painter may use areas of texture and detail, contrasted against softer and sparse brush strokes.
    In each medium, it's useful to consider how concepts from other disciplines can apply. For me this was an epiphany that points to the fact that human perception, in all it's range, has some underlying sense of unity. Very interesting to think about what that means and how it can be leveraged, and why some refer to this idea of 'universal principles' of design. In particular, our brains are insanely effective at pattern recognition, which is exactly why any regularly repeating sound OR lack of sound tends to tickle the brain.

      thanks for the great input! I couldnt agree more and find it very fascinating how these principles apply for so many different creative fields

    hi-hats are made of two cymbals that face each other, and open and close together with a foot pedal. When they are closed, they press against each other. Just FYI in case you were wondering.

    Jazz is only very loosely based on triplets because it's the closest notational representation of the general feel. HOWEVER swing is playing right in the crack between straight or triplets.... Which Is why when the masters do it, unless you're fully in control of where your placement is, it will sound all over the place when playing live.

    I can't get the triplet closed hi hats right on Model Samples.
    I use 12 steps and scale to 3/4, step used 1 3 6 12.
    What I'm doing wrong?

    • @OleansHouse
      @OleansHouse  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don‘t know much about model samples, so i’m afraid I cant be of much help here 🙈 maybe u can find some help in the Elektron forums

    • @diegob6729
      @diegob6729 ปีที่แล้ว

      i finally with some trial and error succeed, i left the time signature to 4/4
      the closed hit hat pattern is lit on 1-2 4 8-9-10 12 16
      the swing +1/64 on pattern 2-4 8-10 12 16
      for those using Model Samples :)
      i'm asking on the forum is there a more easy way :O

    • @diegob6729
      @diegob6729 ปีที่แล้ว

      found an easier method pad lits on
      1 2 4 8 9 10 12 16
      and track swing 64% and it's perfect :)

    • @diegob6729
      @diegob6729 ปีที่แล้ว

      the correct swing (microtiming) was 1/48 as said on the forum that way also exporting the midi is perfect aligned

    I have made a sample pack simply called *real house*. Its 2.2gb of exclusive 1 shots. It took me almost a full year to put together. But I'd like it to be a 'go to' house pack for producers on youtube. If you would like i can send u a copy to review and perhaps promote if you like. I'm sure you will like it. All the samples are unique, and taken from hardware in my studio recorded in both 24 bit and some in 16 bit for that vinyl feel. My sources are actually from vinyl, and drum machines like the digitrack, octatrack, tr909 (im lucky enough to own one of the originals) anyway i like your style. I would really like to also collab if u are keen. Take care and i hope to hear back from u. Btw, its great to see jackin house tuts. One of the best styles of house in my opinion.
    P.s do u have a patreon set up for donations?

    Those closed hats are 16th notes, not quarter notes, that you are adjusting on the grid
