  • Tops Brothers of Bushcraft Knife Review.
TOPS is proud to provide the Tumble Finish Brothers of Bushcraft (BOB). Many of their followers have asked for a version of the B.O.B. without a powder coat. The wait is over. The tumble finish on this knife will increase the efficiency and effectiveness of an already wonderfully useful knife. If you are not a fan of powder coating because it gets in the way when batoning or working with wood and other materials, you will love this new option.
The Fieldcraft Knife was designed by The Brothers of Bushcraft, a coalition of men across North America focused on sharing wilderness living skills of all categories. From tracking, to building shelters, the Brothers of Bushcraft make it a point to show the skills to all people, of all ages, from all over. The Fieldcraft Knife is the culmination of their knowledge, combining experiences from the broad and humid rain forests, to the arid and scorpion-littered deserts, to the frigid northern lands that span the Americas.
The cutting edge is a modified Scandinavian Grind, which is very effective for carving, skinning, and other general wood work. The hardness and edge geometry work beautifully together to make a long lasting edge. The handle is one of the most ergonomic on the market, sporting several useful additions. Being made of canvas micarta, the handle will never let you down. The bow drill divot on the handle is frictionless and makes starting those primitive fires almost effortless. The "Thumb Scallops", formed on the hilt of the handle offer more comfort and control when using specialized carving and skinning grips. The pommel of the blade is simply the tang of the knife exposed enough to allow impact from a baton to not affect the handle (though the micarta is definitely tough enough to take such abuse). On the exposed pommel, you will find a scraper specially designed by one of The Brothers of Bushcraft, for striking Ferro rods in a safe and efficient manner.
The Fieldcraft Knife has had heavy duty abuse, and testing done in the wilderness of Canada, where local survival experts Mors Kochanski, Dr. Gino Ferri, and many others have deemed her a "Serviceable Field Knife". These words are exactly what she is meant to be. From carving netting needles and trap triggers, to chopping through branches, the TOPS Knives/Brothers of Bushcraft Fieldcraft Knife will do just about any chore that you can throw at her to survive and thrive out there in the wilderness.

That extra length in the handle of the Tops BOB over the Esee 4 makes a huge difference in stability and manageability.

I used a Dremel tool to round out the jimping as it was rough on my thumb. It is my favorite knife now.

Don't move the knife when using the shango notch. Hold the knife in place above your tinder and pull the ferro rod up through the notch. It works much better and its safer.

@@prepperinthewoods I forgot to mention that I took a file to the pommel of my BOB, making a flat spot and a 90 degree edge over the Shango notch. It didn't take much filing and it threw much better sparks.

Tops have soft spines but you can use the spine right buy the tip, still annoying for many bushcrafters. Good video brother don't know why ya got thumbs down, must have a hater with to much time on their hands😂 Gotta love the TH-cam trolls, when ya make a channel they come crawling out of the woodwork like cockroaches.

Nice video, nice knife. I was curious if holding the knife still and scraping with the ferro rod it comes with would work okay.

Yup that would work a well. Just put the knife in wood first. I find that better

Great knife. Love mine but the Shango notch is an absolute joke. I sharpened the spine and it throws sparks like a demon. Don’t waste your time on the notch.

Cool looking knife. I really admire you feather-stick macking skills. I'm not at that level!
Sadly I'm no fan of that kydex sheath. Overall I prefer a leather sheath, but kydex is acceptable if it is reversible( lefty here ) and not too tacky looking... this one fails on both points.

Great content!! Could you measure the length while in the sheath, total length ? I’d really appreciate it !! Is the knife holding up well ? Any information will be much appreciated !! I’m pondering buying this exact knife and in coyote tan too. Thank you !!!!! I hope I’m not asking too many questions but the feedback I’m getting is helpful and appreciated.

I started off with cheap diamond plates off amazon. They worked and did the job. Then I got the Lansky. It’s good as well but takes time to set up and to learn how to use. My most recent and last buy is wet stones. Easy to set up but takes getting used to but is relaxing to do. Once you have a good edge. I just strop with a homemade strop with compound.
