  • The Intercooler's Andrew Frankel wrestles with the fearsome Porsche 917/30 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed hillclimb. A priceless and irreplaceable racing car, more power than a modern Formula 1 car, the tricky and very narrow Goodwood hillclimb course...and cold tyres - will Andrew and the car make it to the top in one piece?

These cars are mental, in theory they could do 0 - 200mph in less than 15 seconds, that's hypercar territory from 50 years ago ! Slightly dangerous when you're sitting in between 400 litres of petrol needed for the 2mpg economy. Lucky man to get a shot of such an iconic car at the world's greatest car show. I was at the 2013 event as a guest of Porsche for the 50th anniversary of the 911 and 20th goodwood event and it was the most amazing four days. Love this video and enjoy hearing first hand what these cars are like to drive, thanks.

Against the never ending wave of clickbait it’s great to see quality like this floating to the top. It’s fantastic how much the in car audio picks up on the turbos, really not something you can get an impression of from afar. Sterling stuff.

    That boost gauge was hysterical.

Thank you Andrew for sharing this bit of your motoring life with us. Hoping for a lot more of these in the future and will be here to support it! Hope to see you and Dan and either Monterey Car Week or Rennsport 7. Cheers from California!

Andrew prepared for this by watching the Lee Majors/Burgess Meredeth classic "The Last Chase"

to be honest, it sounds like a low pitched mclaren f1 road car with a ... turbine... this is... something out of this world

Subscribed to the You Tube. Have followed you for a while as you were mentioned as a good motoring journalist by Harris Monkey.
    First time seen your face.
1500 BHP in 1974 sounds bizarre, but they were doing 300mph in the 1930s with Sir Malcolm Campbell by end decade 369mph.
Looks like battery powered Spierling car from last year.
Assume it’s RWD with no driver aids.
    Needs an experienced racing driver.
    Well driven.

Notice the sound, also the tach. He's not even getting up to 4k RPM. Those cars with boost dialed in for the straights made ~1600hp. (So I have read, but I cannot validate that as fact myself)
I can't say much, sitting in a historic car like that, and I see they don't WANT it being revved over like 5k, I would be quite ginger with it. I say that until I get inside and crash, and Porsche enthusiasts everywhere would want to de-nut me. So, neat enough. Go watch some 70's racing, man that shit was brutally awesome! So weak these days!

Nice car. But, more than that, I'm trying to work out if Frankel is a Spitting Image puppet of Chris Harris, or vice versa.
