- Small tour of the Channel 9 Videotapes are in Sydney, Australia, back on 1st October, 1994. You can see the old 2" cart machines that used to play the commercials to air, as well as the old 1" tape machines that used to play the programmes to air.

The good old days of tv.
I now have one of those great Sony Vtrs.
1 cabinet model and 2 portables.
I was a tape op at SAS7...I miss those days :-(
TCN was one of the last stations in Australia to stop using ACR-25's, the 2" cart machines. Sadly every ACR-25 in Australia has been wrecked for their alloy content There is not one left in Australia. The guy that sold most of them new, bought them all back to scrap them. :-(
Is that TCN ??
Certainly the two ACRs was familiar, but I was there for a year long before 1-inch arrived.
If that is TCN, there used to be 2x AVR-2s on that right side, and a window through to the president suite in the middle at the end...
An AVR-1and another machine (AVR2?) were stuffed in a small room with a tiny GVG mixer behind the first AVR.
LOL, I just remembered we weren’t allowed to run the second ACR all day, because the aircon wasn’t up to keeping the area cool with the extra load !
you can hear the blowers of the 2 or three ACR 25s...nice tour...I used to fix those things, still have a claw, carousel pin and a carriage...

hey people you can call me insane but i still use this machines in my video shack i got two IVC9000 ,one RCA TR70C, two BVH2000 and one BVH3000,U-MATIC JVC CR600U and CR850U a portable sony VO6800 and a VO-7600PM, digital betacam video recorders and two cinealta sony camcorders

It's surprising to see that 1" was being used well into the mid-90s. Beta SP was a very popular production format by this time I think. How long did they use 1"? Was it simply used to play material to air by 1994 (with the content originating on another format, ie dub from beta sp)?
In the video I think I spotted a digital betacam machine (is that one at 4:22?).
What did they use for commercial play out after retiring the cart machines?
Betacam SP was very much a news gathering and playout format in those days. It suffered heavily from dropouts and never really caught on as a serious transmission and recording format top end shows.
I'm not sure about Channel 9, but TVNZ replaced the Ampex ACR 25 with the ACR 225. After that it went digital file based.
In terms of picture quality, 1" was really only replaced by digital betacam in TCN on-air Presentation. (News production was the exception and took up the lower quality beta, SP and digibeta at a fair rate.) Around 1996 the ACR's were replaced with a digibeta LMS and Profile servers for short form, (commercial and promos) storage and replay. For long form, digital betacam and then HDCam, were the replacments for 1", but so much repeat programming was on 1", those machines hung around for a very long time.
Isn't what was used by MTV for mx video playback when they went on the air?

Do you know of any spare working Sony BVH2000PS machines around the Sydney area or in regional NSW.
Sadley most of that great equipment got scrapped or chucked including the tapes.
