Dempsey had 26 first round knockouts. In an era where fights were not stopped unless you were counted out this is a huge accomplishment. In 1918 the 3 main top contenders where Dempsey, Fred Fulton, and Carl Morris. Morris and FUlton were huge. Fulton was 6'6" 210 pounds and Morris was 6'4" 220 pounds. both had good records and were dangerous. Dempsey knocked them both out under a minute. Inbetween those fight , Dempsey knocked out The Great Battling Levinsky in the 3rd round, a former Light Heavyweight champion with 145 wins on his record and had fought wars with Harry Greb, Gene Tunny, BIll Brennen, Tommy Gibbons and Carl Morris. Then he knocked out the tough fringe contender , Ed Gunboat Smith in 2. After that and leading up to the Willard fight, Dempsey went on an American tour , taking on non professional fighters all over the US in the same way that John L Sullivan did in his day. Dempsey had at least 7 fights during this time, all first round kos. For some reason boxrec choses to no longer list these fights as professional wins. I understand their point but just because those fighters had not yet fought professionally doesn't mean that those fights were not pro fights. Those men where in a sense making their pro debut against Dempsey which wasnt too uncommon in those days. I could see if they were exhibition type fights with Jack boxing for 4 rounds but they werent. He destroyed all of them in 1. Also his fights against Cowboy Lutrell in the late 1930s is not listed which was clearly a professional match against a fighter with dozens of fights on his record. They should be listed on his overall record.
Came across this VID and had know Idea the same paths we both took over a hundred years later I can relate to his drive and Passion to make it. Moved to the same towns he and I to do whats best. CRAZY!
looking at Mike Tyson's style it's a mix of Jack Dempseys and Ali. just the brutal and explosive power from the core and just pushing it all into his first.
I see Cus D'Amato inspiring from Dempsey's style, when he was forming the Tight Defense (later called Peek-a-boo). Even i see him reading Jack Dempsey's book. But D'Amato style is unique, an mixture of styles. An hybrid one. Not only bobbing & weaving, side stepping too. Hit the opponent from their blind sides. Counterpunching with body/head combinations when evade. And even for a short-arms guy, Tyson counterpunched long-arms outboxers jabs with his own jabs. Short arms doesn't means nothing with a perfected peekaboo it seems. The perfect counter for any tall outboxer
My favorite fighter, he wasn't all hard work and toughness he had I believe a 77 inch reach😮😮😮 which is great for a guy 6ft tall! That's a weapon in itself..
Jack Dempsey was the real deal. Actors like Clark Gable were designed and marketed and coached to be like Jack Dempsey and Jack Dempsey outlived Clark Gable by more than 20 years and was the real thing! Plus Dempsey was 5 years older.
So many urban legends . Willard didn’t have a broken jaw, teeth, cheekbone, etc. In fact, he was fine in a few days. Moreover, he was not a heavy favorite going into the bout. He was a slight favorite.
Sam Langford is the only man I was truly afraid of. He was smaller than me but I knew he'd flatten me ‐ Jack Dempsey. Harry Greb chased a fight for years and had to settle for beating him sparring. Them and Tunney aside, he was the best. This travelling life, mining, tough as nails. Fighting for food. Fred Woods was actually his 13th fight in 1915. He won by ko in round four. His first fight was against a man named Young Heman one year earlier in Colorado Springs. That fight was a draw. I don't think he should have won the long count fight. Tunney looked clear headed at the count of two. People forget, they fought twenty rounds together over their two fights. Dempsey won only one round out of the twenty.
Get that belt Rach out it in the church, after I've put this lovely expensive to g on your finger first of course. Nothing can happen until you except my proposal of course. It's all I've cared about. Without you I won't be doing anything. Your what's given me strength. Thanks for the hint that !e Rach is waiting. My loss are bad. I think I'd kill someone if I tried with my fists. I had ocd to extreme about the perfect lunch tech of each, I believe too much thought is wrong. It's closeness of opponent not the angle of fist line. Think about it ,Dempsey said it possible step in , to get weight into motion to the half armed blow, also not to loop, now days ali s comments about snapping weaker blows are obsessed over. Ali used arm blows an not weight to save energy and tire opponents. Dempsey listened to old timers an learned from experience. He knew what he tought. His defensive techniques were taught well in his books. Vital to my training. Power punches came to me naturally but shortening of them was thanks to jack, don't loop ,telegraph and the places to hit. But his rolls parties and reflections make his book a must. People today try an punch wildly punch have til exhausted. Wrong this is ,skipping and running is for stamina, bags are for punches n combos. Sparring for defence n counters. I know what I talk of Rach. If do anything to help you, i d never strike you like so many so called men do these days to women. The majority of people do this ,surprisingly to many godly men who haven't seen the wickedness I sadly hqve. They target innocent females and as soon as this is destroyed they throw aside looking for new flesn. This is what we face church brothers. We must expose them an make examples so the youth learn they are cowards. Love you Rach babes hopefully won't be long ,k gorgeous xxx
Gotta decide soon rach, clocks ticking babe I xxx soon as your ready let the world of just me know, I'll clean the house only ,whatever you decide see gorgeous, anything as long as you marry me k xx
Thrill of my life when I met Jack Dempsey. Perfect gentleman.

@@steveonysid1521 Mike Tyson is probably the most overrated Creation in history.
@@steveonysid1521His other favorite and friend is Roberto Duran.

Jack Dempsey's on Broadway! I'm from Australia and I have been there, 2004.
My grandfather C.J. Moynihan along with the Hartman brothers organized his first professional fight at Hartman brothers garage in Montrose Colorado.
Excellent post!! Thanks for sharing
looking at Mike Tyson's style it's a mix of Jack Dempseys and Ali. just the brutal and explosive power from the core and just pushing it all into his first.
More like Slapsy Maxie,Henry Hank Armstrong,Rocky Marciano and Dempsey.
Exactly Tyson loved DEMPSEY
Tyson is absolutely nothing like Ali.

Nothing like Muhammad Ali complete opposite
I wish they made a movie about this guy
they did
well done, thanks for posting.
Great find this vid, hard to find info. See this is your life jack dempsey
dempsey was one of the hardest hitting human beings that ever lived
How is that if he refused to box Black Boxers !!!!!
He didn't. He was willing to fight the contender Harry WIlls for the championship but politics prevented it.
@@samowins9931 he fought black fighters prior to the world title, and tried to set up a title defense against a black boxer.
Mark Thomas bottom he didn’t and there were some great black Boxing heavyweights our back than !!!! He has no noticeable opponents
@@samowins9931 does not mean he was not the hardest hiter

The sparring footage starting at about 19:50. Where is it from? How can I access it?

There is something sbout that tunnel underneath Denver Airport in Colorado?
He won against Tunney. That is obvious. The evil powers surrounding and controlling boxing at that time robbed him for reasons I will not speak of.
Dempsey was Tyson before Tyson!
Oh yes, the Tyson myth
So many urban legends .
Willard didn’t have a broken jaw, teeth, cheekbone, etc. In fact, he was fine in a few days. Moreover, he was not a heavy favorite going into the bout. He was a slight favorite.
Why does max schmelling look exactly like Jack?
