Can't believe right now, out of 144k people who've seen this, there's only 63 comments from people who had anything to say and share about it. I watch so many various TH-cam videos on lots of stuff every day (too much time on it really) and yet this one and other ghost town videos of seemingly nothing, now mean so much to me. These kind of videos really hold a great substance of mystery and intrigue for me as an interesting look into the not so distant past. Amazing how much has happened in the last 135 years and this history is something that should be respected and preserved.
Born and raised in El Paso county. Haven’t left yet, tho none can deny its becoming harder and harder to keep from quite literally being pushed and priced out of our home. Nowadays i rarely come across a local let alone someone who’s lives here maybe just a decade. There all transplants, and it’s not uncommon they bring their politics with them. Oh how I’d cherish the most fond memories, say about 1999 or so. I had no clue what was to come.
I'm from SLC and I wish Utah had a series like this....... as a 26 year old I'm amazed by the love of Colorado History this program has. pretty cool. thanks.
Utah’s mountains 🏔 have always impressed me more the Colorado’s mountains 🏔 to be honest. I found Utah’s mountains to be of higher quality and Utah also steeper mountains it seems like and they are so big in width to
But as you all know California is America’s most mountainous state and Alaska has the tallest mountains even states you think would be a desert like Utah or New Mexico you would be mistake because even New Mexico and Utah have the Rocky Mountains to so does Idaho and Wyoming not just Colorado but Colorado has good weed so there’s that
To grow up around these abandoned hamlets and actually have family gatherings at these historic places must've been such a rich way to grow up. I'm so envious!
The last young lady’s statement about how they are the protectors of the land, environment and structures now, shocked me as my forefathers also stated this many times to the people coming into our lands. Now a few understand but most are still wanting for themselves and not for all. Unfortunately history repeats when we as society don’t comprehend what was provided to us 😢
Thank you RMPBS for this wonderful video and the history behind these sites. I've visited two of the three sites and I'm putting Ashcroft on my list for the next visit out. I'll linger at these sites and try to imagine what life was like when the towns were "alive." This video feeds my ability to better imagine the experiences of the Native Americans forced off the land and those settlers that followed. My problem is that there is so much of Colorado to see but not enough time to experience it all.
I was down to Victorville museum, I went to the rest room and saw signs in 3 languages: English, Swedish, & Finnish. That excited me because I am Finnish-American! The politicians in this country can be corrupted with ease.
Sometimes . . . wish I had not left Colorado, back in 89'. Lived at Denver-YMCA, Denver-Capitol Hill (East Colfax), Golden, Boulder & Greeley. As everywhere, expenses have inevitably gone up . . . 😎🇺🇸
Colorado is special, for sure. Love how they show the Goddess Columbia picture. Kind of like Mon tana, or Moon Goddess. Interesting for fun, take a satellite image of the weather from those bad floods a few years ago, then take an image of the moons Schrodinger basin, flip it, then overlay the two images. Have fun. You'll see why that big C for Colorado is round.
Yeah, my buddies where i live now thought i lived close to a singular ghost town cause i have so many stories...my grandpa in the 80's was all about going to as many as we could find...lol😅
Once bustling when mining of various minerals is highest loss shine mines r exhausted. Workers loose jobs, leave area, business squeeze. New industry new technology grow in another area.
Thanks ... been to all of these , Several times , Ashcroft is one of my most favorite ones ... Over Express creek , an up the hill (over it ) 2Nd founded Town in Colorado ( according to Bob Terrell State wild life Officer ; Deceased ) Been some disputes over that for 10s of decades Independence didn't even get a mention ??? ( Fishins good too over ruby way ) an then on over to Crusty butt ... Its out there in Colorful Colorado , ... an well theres Leadville ( ONE of the disputed first 4 founded towns in Colorado

In my opinion we should take what Colorado has done to a federal level, and use the taxes to restore and preserve our national parks and historic sites more effectively. I've seen first hand what the state taxes alone from marijuana sales has produced, clean smooth nice roads, nice looking towns, people are friendly.... to a extent avoid Denver. was walking down the street all I heard was POP POP POP POP! Then a ambulance flies bye mins later all I thought was umm this isn't where I parked my car im the Fook outta here!
It's crazy to hear a white person talk about preserving one's heritage and to leave everything alone but then turn around and go to a native Americans native Americans area spot whatever and whatever and take whatever they want

The Native plug at the end was not needed. Everyone born here is Native and no people are indigenous. Indians drew from the land what they too wanted. There was also constant warring among and by warring tribes wanting ever more land and power and dominion and the peaceful tribes that just wanted to be left alone.

Denver is 45 minutes from the Rockies SLC is only 4 minutes so yeah

Probably through written documentation and accounts.

What the ghost towns mean to me is that the people who came to Colorado were workers and not thinkers.

Dirt bikes and side by sides are ruining the wilderness. Too many, too noisy and too many obnoxious people that care nothing for the environment.
