I think personally we are in a very intriguing era in the game’s development. Everyone is starting to become more adept at handling the ball and shooting. I think it will get to the point where taller players will be not as utilized, but it will still be an advantage if you are a hell of a ball handler and shooter. Mark The Tenor I agree with that too a point. I feel as though we will start seeing more and more Kevin Durant type of player. Not no where near that level but more fowards and 7 footers will be able to put the ball on the floor and facilitate and shoot like KAT, Jokic, and Embiid
Have positions really ever mattered? I’ve always thought here were three positions. Ball Handler,Wing, and post. Point guards are always ball handlers. Centers are always posts. Let’s take Harden and Klay into example. Both are Shooting Guards, but Harden is a ball handler, and Klay is a wing. Jayson Tatum and Anthony Davis. They did, but unfortunately for the wrong reasons. Almost every player used to be put at whatever position was suited to their height more than anything, and the roles that were given to each position were much more rigid.
@bojo perez Yeah exactly. There have been instances of guards playing out of the post like Jordan and Kobe, but many instances now of post players being able to handle the ball, especially in transition, and distribute like DeMarcus Cousins, Anthony Davis, and you even have people with the height of bugs who simply play a bit more like wings like KD, Bol Bol, and Kristaps
Funny thing is, that's not a bad discussion. You have players like LeBron where in his prime you could put a brain dead sheep as the coach and he could still drag them to the finals. But on the other hand players like Steph and Jordan can see an extreme improvement in winning and efficiency when the right coach impliments the right system.
A good coach can get you to the playoffs. A great coach can get you a championship. There aren't many "great" caliber coaches in the league. I'd say there are around 6 or 7.
Next Week: “Does coaching even matter anymore?” 2 weeks from now: “Do quarters even matter anymore?” 3 weeks from now: “Does basketball even matter anymore?”
The game is going smaller. There is a huge emphasize on versatility & shooting. I think this will continue being the trend until a Shaq or Hakeem or Kareem caliber center is drafted.
Dean simmons The game isn’t going smaller. It’s going more skilled. Getting smaller is a consequence of the emphasis on skill. Is Giannis small? He’s much bigger and stronger than Bill Russell ever was. His hands are of the 5 largest in NBA history. He grew to 7 ft (with shoes) with a 7 ft 5 wingspan. Kevin Durant’s size is a huge advantage. Have you seen the all star game with LeBron, Durant, Kawhi, Davis, and Harden? That’s not a small lineup.
Matthew Jones Shooting and dribbling are a part of skill sets. Isiah Thomas was probably the first guy who had handles. Magic and Bird were the only truly skilled players in the early 80s. Michael Jordan came into the league and was the best basketball player in the world as a rookie and everyone already knew it - especially the pros! Many players in the NBA couldn’t shoot, dribble or pass during that time, and they weren’t even that great of athletes. The talent in the league has gone up leaps and bounds. All the best young athletes, especially if they’ve got size and coordination, dream of playing basketball. Compare the NFL from now to 40 years ago - much more competitive with more skills involved now. The days of Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders playing two pro sports are over - and it’s Bo Jackson saying this - the sports are just that much more competitive with deeper talent and skills these days. Look at the marathon runner running under 3 minutes and prime Usain Bolt for the 100M and 200M. More skills, more talent, more athleticism, more nutrition and scientific training, and much better coaching systems.
Keith Isaiah wasnt the only one to have handles but he just tested the limit of the carrying rule. Crossovers were considered carrying and Isaiah got criticized a lot for it back then. Hell even Iversons famous cross was back then considered by many a carry and that legendary crossover just wouldnt have ever happened if Iverson played in the 70's Also the lack of handchecking makes face up dribbling a lot easier. If they'd install the same rules today, you'll again see players looking like 70's players. Lol hell the spin move wasnt even allowed because that was a carry too. You had to dribble while spinning and if you did not switch up on hands, it was a carry also. So yea players are and seem more skilled because they actually were capable of trying skills due to rule changes. Doesnt mean that when players were off-court, that they couldnt crossover or spin with the ball like they do today.
Herosennin Stop romanticizing the past. Yes, the rules are more lenient today because people were pushing the boundaries of the rules. Back then people didn’t have the skill sets so it looked awkward and therefore was called for the violations. Name one player that had handles like Isiah prior to him. Bob Cousy? If hand checking stopped the handles, then why didn’t anyone stop little Tim Hardaway or Allen Iverson? Get real. The training, systems, fundamentals, nutrition, and skills are at much higher levels because there is so much more money in it. Look at BBALLBREAKDOWN on their analysis on hand checking and hard fouls. While there were more flagrant fouls that were called normal fouls, he destroyed the myth that Jordan was fouled all the time. In fact, everyone at the time complained that Jordan got so many touch fouls.
Keith How am I romantizing the past if I merely repeat Adam Silver and David Stern. In their words, virtually any rule change they made was to kill the dominance of big men and open up the game for smaller, quicker players. The relinquished dominance of bigmen and the dominance of smaller players. And no this is such utter bullshit. EVERY CROSSOVER would be a carry back then because a crossover WAS a carry back then. It had nothing to do with skill if you were NOT ALLOWED to palm the ball at all like now or how like you said Isaiah was pushing the boundaries. Hell the very fact that there ARE boundaries that players pushed shows how illegal even the most regular moves players nowadays use were. It seems that you dont understand that if you'd put Kyrie back in that era virtually 90% of his skillset would end right there. You cant just face up dribble and drop a 3 when someone is actually allowed to put their hands on you. I mean have you ever fucking played streetbal? Then you know what its like to be handchecked since they still somewhat do on the streets and its 10 times harder creating a shot when you are. That Iverson and Hardaway had less problems was BECAUSE they were allowed more and by the way, both were low efficiency scorers most of their career for the very same reason and barely kept it above 40%. Hell MOST GUARDS before this shit changed RARELY shot 45% and were most of the times around 40-42%. If there is also one player that was even more considered a rule breaker, it was Iverson and his crossover. Just like with Isaiah the entire league and other players were constantly complaining about both of them breaking the carry rule. You just seem to have a lack of historical basketbal perspective. And MJ at some point in his career as the posterboy of the NBA got fouls easier. That doesnt mean he was the standard for an entire league lol. Same with Iverson and Hardaway acting like every player in the 90's had crazy handling whereas it was basically 3 players that did lol, again, because they just werent allowed a lot.
I actually don’t think so I think for point guards being 6’3 will be like being 5’9 but the other postions are postionless so 6’5 won’t be that small for other postions also I think in around 10 years A Lot of players will have to be picked up at half court and 3 and D roleplayers will be as valuable as the lower tier all stars and Robert Covington type player will be super valuable
@@joaquin.diazzzz For PGs the average height may not change so much, but for SG it will and for SF is already happening But 3 and D players like Covington and Danny Green already have more value than guys like Derozan, Whiteside or Melo
I remember watching Draymond at Mich St. he was basically their PG. (I’m from Big Ten Country) So I’m not surprised at when watching GS. The Draymond PnR is a beast. He can finish at the rim on the roll, he can shoot on the pop and he can handle and make the assist if he has to on a closeout or a fast break. The last point being why he is a good defender. He’s a good mental defender. Then he gets the rebound and pushes it, a traditional big man can’t run with him. Therefore, half of his defense is making the opposing big man unplayable. Which is already happening because of the long rebounds. Add his speed and ball handling, the opposing big man is FUCKED
The argument that Draymond "wouldn't be good without Klay and Steph" needs to STOP. Of course he woulndt be good on his own he's a ROLEPLAYER. But same is true in the opposite direction. Put a star scoring-forward like Carmelo, instead of Draymond, and *the warriors don't get better they get worse*. I think Draymond deserves as much recognition for what he did with GS, as Kemba carrying the hornets to a 8-9 seed for 4 straight years. (Of course you can be a good star and a good roleplayer, most Greats are)
Jalen Rose said years ago that positions were made for novices to keep up with the game. Anybody can initiate the offense. Anybody can protect the rim. Steal the ball. Post up. Basically anything that can be done on a basketball court can be done by any player. Based on the lineup certain players play certain roles but it only makes sense that labeling them by positions only make sense for novices. It’s not like football where certain positions only do certain things.
I love how Draymond is only considered an all star when curry haters wanna argue that he had too much help. In literally any other context, he is considered trash (which is also dumb to think that)
Dallas still has a lot of weapons along with Finney-Smith. Brunson and Kleber are two fairly underrated bench guys, Curry is a good floor spacer and Powell is really good in the pick and roll
alipareedanse12 Brunson a good scorer and passer in 2K. I now this means nothing IRL but I just like him. Him and Luka could be a good backcourt duo with their shooting and passing
The thing is going small ball is a way of being more versatile if you have a team of 6'11 players just as versatile (like how players are transitioning to be) you might be in a better position because size still matters
Positionless basketball is why the Warriors were so successful, not just shooting 3's. They could switch defend on anyone with a mixture of Livingston and Iguadala off of the bench. Everyone on that team moves off of the ball. High post elbow passes to cutters from Draymond and even Iguadala makes their offense flow. They can also run conventional pick and roll. Their offense is really versatile because their line up is versatile enough to handle it.
Crazy thing is that big men will start becoming better three point shooters like Porzingas. And since you can’t gaurd a 7 foot guy I feel that maybe the league will go back to that. The lack is constantly changing
There are some positions that will prevail. There will be many centers, but only in defense. There will still be point guard, except it will only be "point" cause there will also be centers and forwards running the point.
This is really why I look at the draft and scratch my head as to why a team like the Timberwolves wouldn’t want a 6’7 point guard like Lamelo Ball because D’Lo and Beasley are a young backcourt with upside
PostBoi Birdie they have Dlo? LaMelo would either play on the bench or at the two, which isn’t his traditional position. Also DLo and Beasley are enough scoring with KAT, the best player for them would be Isaac Okoro to lead the defense
They need a defensive star on that team. Kat, DLo, & Beasley can become a great offensive trio. What good to great defensive minded pieces do they have? Okogie? What else?
I think its that positions dont matter, but the idea of roles have taken over. Having wings, spot-up shooters, playmakers, cutters, and someone who can consistently score inside are some offensive roles, and then there are defensive roles like rim protectors, perimeter defenders, etc. So it’s just building a team with certain players for certain roles to match whatever gameplan you’re going by. At least that’s how I see it.
If we're gonna be honest, he's definitely over paid. U know damn well ur overpaid if only ur current team will pay u that much money. And honestly he's just talking too much rn. Like the fact that he was so bad this year just makes him look like a clown when he comes out sayin he revolutionized the game and all that shit.
@@adrianadavis5514 He's paid what his value is to that team. The versatility he allows them, the fact he's one of the most versatile defenders ever, the fact that GS would have been worse without him, that's why he got paid like he did. Let's not forget MICHAEL CONLEY JR was the highest paid player in the league at one point because Memphis valued him that much. Just like any other job, they're gonna pay you what your value to the company is.
@Andre Ricardo Bryant Dude Draymond was a good play maker and can drop 30 at a very hot lucky day, Back then he can spot up idk about now. That's as far as his offensive game goes. You can't expect a man of inconsistent offensive ability and offense that heavily relies on ball movement to up his points just because he is the first option. That was never what he signed for.
I think it was Brad Stevens that said not too long ago that there are pretty much only three positions in basketball now. Ball handler(point guard), Wing(shooting guard and small forward) and Big(Power Forward and Center)
They seemingly don't matter as much but the game was never meant to be played by hybrid forwards who can fill the stat sheet. The 3 has changed the game seemingly indelibly, but position specialization is there for a reason. Very few if any are able to elitely and ably fill the stat sheet to the ultimate goal of winning.
I think it’s awesome that we get new topics from this channel almost everyday, but shows like undisputed and first take talk about the same thing everyday
There are guards, wings, and bigs now. Some teams start 1 guard, 2 wings, 2 bigs, some have 1 guard, 3 wings, 1 big, some have 2 guards, 2 wings, 1 big, some have 2 guards, 1 wing, 2 bigs, and the Rockets have 2 guards and 3 wings
At the 1 - Giannis/LeBron/Luka At the 2 - Kawhi/JB/Middleton At the 3 - Paul George/Tatum/Ingram At the 4 - KD At the 5 - Siakim/Draymond (before he forgot how to shoot)/AD/Kristaps/Al Horford, but 2 years ago A point forward A bunch of versatile wings 6’6” to 6’11” A small ball center
Nobody ever talks about how Draymond steps up in the playoffs hes clutch whether you like it or not go look at his game 7 stats in 2016 Draymond is severly underrated because of dumb 12 year olds who think they know basketball
The most important player in basketball is the point forward two way player who can play all 5 positions- Lebron is of a higher class in this with no big weakness . Giannis if he develops his handles ,jump shot and IQ and Simmons if he can fucking shoot. The second most important player is the high scoring 2 way wing- KD, Kawhi ,Taytum if he develops a little more on both ends ,PG if he doesn't choke The third most important player is the well rounded offensive engine - Harden ,Steph Luka and maybe Jokic The fourth most important player is the 2 way big man who can move fast and score ,defend at a high level but can't create his own shot - Giannis is currently here more than in the 1st level, AD, Porzingis when healthy, Embiid .
Basketball is a generalists sport. Specialists are back up players or 5th starters in today's league with so many players good at so many things. Roles are also entirely different and vary depending on the system.
I’ve always said people really do not understand how vital draymond is to that warriors team almost all the scoring is made from a draymond set up and he’s soo good at help d and communication.
About rebounding it's obvious that if you have shooters around the 3pt line you have less chance to get offensive rebound because their just to far from the basket
I think positions depend on the players you have. For example Aaron Gordon is a 4, and he is only a 4, he can't play anything else. So if you have him on your team, you have to take his possition into acount. The same can be said for Gobert or Embiid, they are 5s, and they can't play any other position, but they are good enought you will always start them even if they lack flexibility. Then you have most guard playing both the 1 and 2 spots, some even the 3, but not all of them can do that. Lonzo is a 1, at least if you want to get 100% from him. So in the end you have players who fit one role (ball handler, wing, big man) like Leonard, players like Giannis or Lebron that can fit multiple roles, and then you have players that can only fit one position in the 1-5. And that's not taking the defensive scheme into account. The coach has to take all that and create a team around it. I doubt positions dissapear because I don't see a coach looking at a player like Gobert and saying "sure, he is a DPOY, but he can only play center, so I don't need him" unless said coach alredy has a better player that is incompatible with him. But that's another issue entirely.
There's a correlation between weight and accuracy so I wouldn't expect the NBA to ever be filled with 7 footer who shoot over 40% from 3. Size isn't an unlimited plus side.
Great video man one your better ones. I think though that positions still matter because there are plenty of players who dont make it in the league because they don't fit a role ex. Small SG's, slow PF, non defensive C's. Two examples in derrick williams and michael beasly who a few years ago would be starting SF's, but now would play pf but they dont fit that role. And please no David lee slander lol
Positions now are initiator/ball handler, play finisher/roll man, and floor spacer/shooter. And defensively you’re either a point of attack defender/perimeter defender or rim protector. The tricky part is some guys look like they should be one position but are better suited for another position like Karl Anthony Towns. KAT is used as a rim protector but better used on the perimeter and offensively is a floor spacer/initiator, not a play finisher or roll man. So for the Wolves they better find a real Center if they ever want to win.
My idea of a perfect lineup in today's game: A point guard who can score, playmake, has a good ball handling ability, decent defender, athletic, maybe 6'4 or 6'5 A shooting guard who can shoot at an elite level and play good defense, maybe 6'6' or 6'7 A small forward with great shooting ability, great defender and also grab boards, preferably around 6'8 or 6'10 A power forward who can stretch the floor and be a decent rim protecter, maybe around 6'11 to 7 feet A center who can stretch the floor, is an elite rebounder and rim protecter, has good post up ability, preferably around 6'10
Its less about positions and more about roles in the offense and defense Ie primary playmaker and ball handler who can score 3&d wing Elite scorer Secondary playmaker and scorer
I agree with what draymond green did foe the warriors but i think david lee also needs credit here he kind took the warriors offese a level up when he just started catching rhe ball off the roll and making the pass alot
I feel like the nba will turn into the second option in about 5 years or so. With it being 4 KD's and one Giannis. If you're going to be under 6'4 then you better pack a vertical leap of a Derrick Jones Jr, or Dennis Smith Jr. Which like you said is unfortunate for someone like me is only 5'7 lol. Excellent points throughout the entire video! Major respect 🙌.
“Slow post-ups”. I feel like no one ever brings this up about old-school/classic basketball, don’t get me wrong I’ll watch any basketball, but watching Big men take up 80% of the game backing down is sometimes mind numbing
First Video: Does Rebounding Matter in the NBA anymore? Second Video: Do Positions Matter in The NBA Anymore? Third Video: Does Basketball Really Matter in The NBA Anymore?
I remember Anthony Mason used to handle the ball from the four in New York. I also remember Kevin Garnett and Lamar Oden doing it as well. This is nothing new.
Technically the Dallas Mavericks are a small ball team on a versatility standpoint but not a size standpoint because of porzingis being able to take people off the dribble at 7’3
Chris Bosh isn't undersized he 6'11 and neither was Lebron at PF but I get your point. PJ Tucker is nowhere near as effective as draymond green. Green changed game by out running centers and passing. Modern day NBA centers don't half to shoot 3s to be effective. they just can't stay in the paint all the time anymore. the only thing a center has to do is set screens, roll to basket rebound and block shots. Draymond green was impactful but so was kevon looney. Looney can't shoot but he was still an important piece for warriors dynasty. I don't believe centers will half to shoot 3s but they can't brick free throws.
Rockets were about a decade too early in signing Josh Smith, think about it in his prime he’d be perfect as a 5 man for the current Rockets. Wonder who they’d find to be the poor man’s equivalent of that who can give them like 20 minutes a night, maybe look for a Chris Boucher type in the 2nd round
Houston Rockets use of 6'5 P.J. Tucker at Center during periods of the game was to counter the Golden State Warriors using 6'7 Draymond Green at Center. Small-Ball 5-spot
I got in an argument with someone the other day who thought Rodman was better than draymond by a mile, and a bunch of casuals started agreeing with him. People sleep on draymond bruh
Mastni Burek they did.... said he was trash without Steph and klay because he averaged a triple single this season. Just lets us know they don’t know what they’re talking about. Most people don’t watch a minute of ball and act like they’re geniuses.
Positions don’t matter but you need two ball handlers/playmakers, a minimum of two quality 3PT shooters who can also play perimeter defense & one player who can lock down the paint, dunk alleys & play perimeter D
Big guys can only break people down off dribble now because defense isn't allowed to be played. If any of the "big guys with handles" now tried that in the 90's they'd be ripped in 30 secs.
look, it's one thing to not like this position-less, glorified shooting contest type of a game, BUT: to deny it is what it is, is INSANE. the game HAS changed and one has always the choice not to watch it anymore. liked. your long-time subscriber and coach pop-level grumpy old 90s NBA fan
I think in today's NBA the answer is no, but they do put an emphasis on size and skills. On size teams want guards to be generally taller and Centers to not exceed 7 feet tall, so basically a team consisting of heights that range from 6"5 to 7"0. Why I said that centers not to exceed 7 feet tall is because I'm generalizing that more size would mean lesser speed and versatility. Skills however is the most important determining factor, and the most important skill of them all in today's nba is shooting.
Please don't kick me in the dick Draymond...

Hell even Iversons famous cross was back then considered by many a carry and that legendary crossover just wouldnt have ever happened if Iverson played in the 70's
Also the lack of handchecking makes face up dribbling a lot easier.
I like the Blake shoutout. He doesn't get enough credit for expanding his game.
Position does not matter
But size still is
That’s what she said
Lmao
In 10 years being 6'5 will be like 5'9 In today NBA
Fr 6 5 and up point guards are damn near normal
I actually don’t think so I think for point guards being 6’3 will be like being 5’9 but the other postions are postionless so 6’5 won’t be that small for other postions also I think in around 10 years A Lot of players will have to be picked up at half court and 3 and D roleplayers will be as valuable as the lower tier all stars and Robert Covington type player will be super valuable
@@joaquin.diazzzz For PGs the average height may not change so much, but for SG it will and for SF is already happening
But 3 and D players like Covington and Danny Green already have more value than guys like Derozan, Whiteside or Melo
Lil Penguin basically but the three point shooting Just going get better people in around 10-15 years will be consistently pulling for the logo
__ but I think they’ll became more valuable

‘Used to be that 6’8” players weren’t dictating the offence”
*Magic Johnson loudly coughs*
yes but he is an outlier lol
I remember watching Draymond at Mich St. he was basically their PG. (I’m from Big Ten Country)
So I’m not surprised at when watching GS.
Long intro Buckets
Next video: “Do boomers matter anymore?”
Unless they're in some sort of Government or Corporate leadership position, that could be a legit question.
(Of course you can be a good star and a good roleplayer, most Greats are)
I think Draymond was the difference in the Portland series. Put him in with Dame and CJ and they would have beaten the Warriors.
Honestly Draymond doo doo without steph and klay
The rockets definetly dont think so
Coming from a Rockets fan, this is true
Jalen Rose said years ago that positions were made for novices to keep up with the game. Anybody can initiate the offense. Anybody can protect the rim. Steal the ball. Post up. Basically anything that can be done on a basketball court can be done by any player. Based on the lineup certain players play certain roles but it only makes sense that labeling them by positions only make sense for novices. It’s not like football where certain positions only do certain things.
I love how Draymond is only considered an all star when curry haters wanna argue that he had too much help. In literally any other context, he is considered trash (which is also dumb to think that)
Thank you

Dallas is going the tall versatile way. I just hope Finney-Smith improves on the offensive side
You are the most passive-aggressive basketball TH-camr I’ve ever seen. That was a hateful compliment.👍
Okogie? What else?
Rusty being 6'3 is now a icon of society
I think its that positions dont matter, but the idea of roles have taken over. Having wings, spot-up shooters, playmakers, cutters, and someone who can consistently score inside are some offensive roles, and then there are defensive roles like rim protectors, perimeter defenders, etc. So it’s just building a team with certain players for certain roles to match whatever gameplan you’re going by. At least that’s how I see it.
People who think Dray sucks literally only look at the box score and don't watch the game.
@Andre Ricardo Bryant He's not a scorer. Regardless of who he plays with, that's not his strength.
@Andre Ricardo Bryant He'll never be a 20 and 10 guy, that's not what Draymond does. He'll l give you like 10 and 10 with some steals and blocks
I think it was Brad Stevens that said not too long ago that there are pretty much only three positions in basketball now. Ball handler(point guard), Wing(shooting guard and small forward) and Big(Power Forward and Center)
Yeah and another group he calls swings which are capable of performing in more than one of those roles. Wings, swings, bigs and ballhandlers
Positionless basketball is way more fun to watch.
You right
They seemingly don't matter as much but the game was never meant to be played by hybrid forwards who can fill the stat sheet.
The 3 has changed the game seemingly indelibly, but position specialization is there for a reason.
Very few if any are able to elitely and ably fill the stat sheet to the ultimate goal of winning.
I didn’t see your last video but no matter what era rebounds are always going to be extremely important.
At the 1 - Giannis/LeBron/Luka
At the 2 - Kawhi/JB/Middleton
At the 3 - Paul George/Tatum/Ingram
At the 4 - KD
At the 5 - Siakim/Draymond (before he forgot how to shoot)/AD/Kristaps/Al Horford, but 2 years ago
A point forward
A bunch of versatile wings 6’6” to 6’11”
A small ball center
You’re so calm, u get ur points across by being funny asf at the same time 😂💯
I feel like after a long time it’s just gonna be matchups.
So like it won’t be center vs center or power forward vs power forward
I think NBA ratings decline show that the fans don't like this new style of play. The NBA will make rule changes to re enforce positions.
7:05 joke earned you a like😂
Basically everything he said are facts. But am I the only one bothered by how he ties the af1’s?
whats wrong with it?
Laces are just too long tbh
Nobody ever talks about how Draymond steps up in the playoffs hes clutch whether you like it or not go look at his game 7 stats in 2016 Draymond is severly underrated because of dumb 12 year olds who think they know basketball
The most important player in basketball is the point forward two way player who can play all 5 positions- Lebron is of a higher class in this with no big weakness . Giannis if he develops his handles ,jump shot and IQ and Simmons if he can fucking shoot.
The second most important player is the high scoring 2 way wing- KD, Kawhi ,Taytum if he develops a little more on both ends ,PG if he doesn't choke
The third most important player is the well rounded offensive engine - Harden ,Steph Luka and maybe Jokic
The fourth most important player is the 2 way big man who can move fast and score ,defend at a high level but can't create his own shot - Giannis is currently here more than in the 1st level, AD, Porzingis when healthy, Embiid .
Once the League goes to small ball wont traditional centers become unstoppable bc there aren’t many players still in there that can stop then
Basketball is a generalists sport. Specialists are back up players or 5th starters in today's league with so many players good at so many things. Roles are also entirely different and vary depending on the system.
All you need is a point guard and a bunch of versatile shooting wings
WhAt A lOnG aSS iNtRo..... honestly you do you bro love the content
Good video, I absolutely agree with your stance on Draymond Green, thank you for putting my thoughts into words.
love u man
I’ve always said people really do not understand how vital draymond is to that warriors team almost all the scoring is made from a draymond set up and he’s soo good at help d and communication.
Rusty: I'm 6ft 3
Me: You still can't dunk....
Shit he admitted he can't even touch the rim. How is that possible? I have no clue.
short arms, 12 inch vertical
@@rustybuckets you were meant for greatness elsewhere.
Yes. Try not to think of them so much as being "positions" but rather the functions they perform. Each one has its responsibilities
No mention of Toni Kukoc??
Positions now are initiator/ball handler, play finisher/roll man, and floor spacer/shooter. And defensively you’re either a point of attack defender/perimeter defender or rim protector. The tricky part is some guys look like they should be one position but are better suited for another position like Karl Anthony Towns. KAT is used as a rim protector but better used on the perimeter and offensively is a floor spacer/initiator, not a play finisher or roll man. So for the Wolves they better find a real Center if they ever want to win.
That. intro. was. amazing.
My idea of a perfect lineup in today's game:
A point guard who can score, playmake, has a good ball handling ability, decent defender, athletic, maybe 6'4 or 6'5
A shooting guard who can shoot at an elite level and play good defense, maybe 6'6' or 6'7
A small forward with great shooting ability, great defender and also grab boards, preferably around 6'8 or 6'10
A power forward who can stretch the floor and be a decent rim protecter, maybe around 6'11 to 7 feet
A center who can stretch the floor, is an elite rebounder and rim protecter, has good post up ability, preferably around 6'10
randomrocketsfan y do u want ur power forward taller than ur center
The power forward is taller than the center?
@@mantgrta9728 Since I want him stretching the floor, he could shoot over smaller forwards that guard him
randomrocketsfan 6 10 is still tall
Its less about positions and more about roles in the offense and defense
Ie primary playmaker and ball handler who can score
3&d wing
Elite scorer
Secondary playmaker and scorer
Facts
I agree with what draymond green did foe the warriors but i think david lee also needs credit here he kind took the warriors offese a level up when he just started catching rhe ball off the roll and making the pass alot
I feel like the nba will turn into the second option in about 5 years or so. With it being 4 KD's and one Giannis. If you're going to be under 6'4 then you better pack a vertical leap of a Derrick Jones Jr, or Dennis Smith Jr. Which like you said is unfortunate for someone like me is only 5'7 lol. Excellent points throughout the entire video! Major respect 🙌.
Every point you made was spot on
The only to fix the game is to either eliminate 3's or move the line way back.
“Slow post-ups”. I feel like no one ever brings this up about old-school/classic basketball, don’t get me wrong I’ll watch any basketball, but watching Big men take up 80% of the game backing down is sometimes mind numbing
Cameron Davis what about Dirk? Shaq? Garnett? Or Duncan?
I understand about your case with Amare Stoudemire, Dwight Howard, and Andre Drummond.

Lamar Oden is if Greg Oden and Lamar Odom had a fusion.

Technically the Dallas Mavericks are a small ball team on a versatility standpoint but not a size standpoint because of porzingis being able to take people off the dribble at 7’3
You look 47 and 5 foot 8
I don't think he shot well enough
Keep Em coming
positions don't matter, matchups do.
Houston Rockets use of 6'5 P.J. Tucker at Center during periods of the game was to counter the Golden State Warriors using 6'7 Draymond Green at Center.
Small-Ball 5-spot
I couldn’t agree with you more about draymond one of the most underrated players in nba history, his assists say it all
I got in an argument with someone the other day who thought Rodman was better than draymond by a mile, and a bunch of casuals started agreeing with him. People sleep on draymond bruh
They also said draymond couldn’t pass or shoot
RZekek hate people like that they probably also argued that draymond was just a system player
Mastni Burek they did.... said he was trash without Steph and klay because he averaged a triple single this season. Just lets us know they don’t know what they’re talking about. Most people don’t watch a minute of ball and act like they’re geniuses.
So basically turning into hs ball
Positions don’t matter but you need two ball handlers/playmakers, a minimum of two quality 3PT shooters who can also play perimeter defense & one player who can lock down the paint, dunk alleys & play perimeter D
Positions don't matter, but match ups absolutely do
Big guys can only break people down off dribble now because defense isn't allowed to be played. If any of the "big guys with handles" now tried that in the 90's they'd be ripped in 30 secs.
You and Dom2k made a very similar video I’m glad a few great minds are giving credit where credit is good.
look, it's one thing to not like this position-less, glorified shooting contest type of a game, BUT:
to deny it is what it is, is INSANE. the game HAS changed and one has always the choice not to watch it anymore.

your long-time subscriber and coach pop-level grumpy old 90s NBA fan
I think in today's NBA the answer is no, but they do put an emphasis on size and skills. On size teams want guards to be generally taller and Centers to not exceed 7 feet tall, so basically a team consisting of heights that range from 6"5 to 7"0. Why I said that centers not to exceed 7 feet tall is because I'm generalizing that more size would mean lesser speed and versatility. Skills however is the most important determining factor, and the most important skill of them all in today's nba is shooting.
Thank you I’m tired of my favorite power forward Mr. Green getting hated on 😤 💪🏾 ✅ 📈✍🏾
Does anything matter anymore😂
Draymond is the only guy to ever win defensive player of the year and lead his team in assists as a power forward. This guy is so versatile.
He got the greatest shooters in his team, so it's easy to rack up assist. His defense is really versitile though.
@Tomas Bell he's a decent passer at best, but that decent passing of him have been lethal because of the guys he's throwing the rock to.
He's an average to good passer.
Playing alongside two elite off ball catch & shoot shooters in Steph & Klay boost his assist numbers a lot.
As for his defense it is elite.
People undervalue his defensive IQ.
