Distracted is 100% believable. Only thing is a human totally ignorant of the situation what he is doing at that total excitement. It is spontaneous. How he fly the plane is subsequent event when your understanding of normal state, with the feelings spread in you cools your nerves. Yesterday I was at a shop. I was to pay 224. I gave 500, plus change of 24. But the person doesn't have change for 500. So I said ok I come from the market. I went away. In the market I picked the change then saw 3, 10coins. I wonder how come I gave 20+4 to him but no further 10 coin except the one I get as balance from this shop. My mind questions me. Then I come back to this shop and paid him 200. He asked me 24. I said I gave you. He said no, as there was no change you took everything. Then I said to him I was wondering how two10 coins come into my pocket as my memory is I gave you 24. Then I realized I didn't pay him and paid now. So I don't find the Pilot guilty. They should have seen the CCTV for human behavior of theft and and innocence and should have absolve him of any wrong doings. But his resignation anyhow is the end whether guilty or not guilty as this talk of shaming is not good for him to fly again.
Yes, Captain Rohit's excuse seems valid and sometimes it does happen that we get distracted whenever we get a phone call in the middle of doing something. He must be given a clean chit.

The pilot was obviously distracted on hearing the good news and proceeded towards the plane forgetting to pay. This cannot be considered as theft or shoplifting. Felt pity for the pilot.
It may happen that the call distracted him and he moved out of the shop without paying the amount for the wallet. It has happened once with me that after I picked and ate the item at an eatery got engaged in conversation with the owner at the counter and after I finished our conversation I forgot to pay for the food item. Later on after i returned home realising, that I didn't paid for the item I paid it online via UPI on his mobile number linked account. Also I called him to say sorry for my forgetfulness. But the funny part of that was,he was also surprised that who had made the payment when he listened to the voice for the payment made on the speaker when there wasn't anyone at the shop. So I don't think it was a shop lifting incident.

I think as Indians we need to take a stand and defend our people and not allow the world to make a mockery over such a minor mishap which is so damaging for the pilot, his career, family and airline. I love Air India even though I'm a third generation NRI. Pilot is human too ❤. He git the passengers home safely, who cares about some lousy wallet. Just mail it back to the store.
The aviation industry has made flying easier by producing automatic machines, preventing potential accidents. Absolutely credible explanation. Shopping on the street, I have myself made this mistake unintentionally on numerous occasions. Capt. Rohit Bhasin should be exonerated of all charges.
The pilot is only a human and getting distracted because of the sudden news is part of being a human. He was carried away in the moment and that's totally okay. To say he is mentally deficient or incapable solely based on this incident is a heavy allegation. If they said there was an investigation that took place then it needs to be investigated holistically that involves seeing this personality and background check, financial security, family background, history of conduct against all possible motives. If the investigation was rushed through (which I believe could have been the case) then the defamation is undeserved and it can cause lasting damages. They need to weigh all this against outcomes. This can happen,if he was true to his words ,he should be able to pay, thousands of people on the very high ranks do this every day. I feel that it was a genuine mistake. God bless him.
This is a sad situation. I want to believe Capt.Basin was a victim of bad luck. When a person's time is not in favour even King's fall from glory. We all should take this as a learning in life. God bless him and Family with the positivity and strength to go through this
he should have paid that money there itself at Sydney Airport instead of telling will pay in next visit . besides this he should not have allowed to fly aircraft in such a case from Sydney to delhi .
Whether he stole the wallet ornot is not the issue. He is a reputed pilot,& did nothing to jeapordise the safety of the aircraft & passengers. Investigationof the said, wallet should have been done privately & jin a just manner. Airline reputation is important,BUT it's not worth suspending the pilot, merely bcz Sydney accused him & demanded punishment.
Pilot ne jo explanation di vo sach ho sakti h. Kisi ke liye bhi grandparent ban-na ek bahut khushi ka moment hota h or is news milne ki khushi me possible h ki vo by mistake wallet ke liye pay karna bhul gye ho. Isko unnecessarily badi baat bnaya gya h aisa lag raha h. Baki agar aap apne video me cctv ki footage show krte to matter thoda or clear ho jata.
Desi mat appears to be khalistani , as he rarely covers large number of misdeeds of khalistani Sikh . The pilot appears to be through gentle man . Respect his forthright honesty and decision to quit .
It's quite possible. Forgetting something in a state of excitement is quite common. In such case the airline should check his past record and if he had clean dealings. He certainly cannot stake his entire career for one petty wallet. His story has almost 100% weitage.
Yes I agree he was distracted by the news.It is unbelievable a senior pilot should caught for stealing .This happened with me also .plz don't defame the pilot.
Very sad. Maybe due to overexcitement the pilot have definitely forgot to pay. Media is one who really blasts the reports. Plus point is that the pilot admitted his fault. Resignation is not the solution. I pray that he be taken back on job.
I really think this pilot is telling the truth. Any senior pilot will never steal a wallet, but how the duty-free anti theft electronic did not alert the pilot.
I too feel the phone call was so important and the good news distracted him from his present moment of purchasing a wallet, I guess it wasn’t intentional ❤
I have flown Air India and their service was very good they cared for my luggage on a long return connecting flight n flights food was good they were good
I think it was a genuine mistake. If his intention was to steal, he would have hidden the wallet in the cabin and not his jacket. Authorities should do proper investigation.
Technically it is considered as theft. Shoplifting. If it is an inadvertent act - which could well be the case, as mistakes happen, Air India should have considered solving this at their level quietly. One must take into account, that he is a Senior Pilot, and would be very foolish to do something as stupid as this.
To confirm Air India's pilot's statement it's very simple to verify phone calls received from India regarding the birth of a newly born grand son , note the timings and recording of the cell phone on the other hand verify record of the infant from the hospital if all the evidences are according to pilot's statement, then he should be given benefit of doubt and should be pardoned accordingly.

I really respect this senior pilot.May be he got distracted by the call from his family.i feel really sad for him.
Every pilot knew the rules he should control him self. Reason of dismissal was lake of control due to age. he understands this.
This is a sad situation. I want to believe Capt.Basin was a victim of bad luck. When a person's time is not in favour even King's fall from glory. We all should take this as a learning in life. God bless him and Family with the positivity and strength to go through this
What a sad story! It could have been a genuine mistake 😮. But why the resignation? Air India went too far, in my opinion.
C c TV ka video kya ye dikha Raha tha ki Mr. Bhasin phone per bat kar rahe the?
I like Air India. They did the largest evacuation during Gulf war. They are really improving. Will take some more time.
It’s the culture of the people not Air Indias fault
I'm sure after hearing this, other pilots of air India might think of changing their air line I would
An innocent mistake Because he was so excited after hearing the news
Yes I believe he is innocent because sometimes mistake can happens
That is possible when you get old and get distracted from other matters if you engage in multiple things, but suspending him was correct.
Could be .. benefit of doubt be given to pilot Bhasin….. provided he has no history
I agree that the pilot was telling the truth
he should have paid that money there itself at Sydney Airport instead of telling will pay in next visit . besides this he should not have allowed to fly aircraft in such a case from Sydney to delhi .
If he was distracted, he should have paid there and then. Not say I will pay next time. Shameful act.😡
He might be speaking the truth, the worse thing is that even his own airline didn't help him
Whether he stole the wallet ornot is not the issue.
If you are a pilot then you should have the nerves of steel. He shouldn’t be distracted easily.
The Pilot was distracted by the good news so he obviously made a mistake but they should give him a benefit of the doubt.🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Management was right on their decision and action .
It's a genuine mistake
Have seen this video long time ago, how do you mention 3 week ago.
A proper investigation could have helped the pilot to save his job.
Yes I agree he was distracted by the news.It is unbelievable a senior pilot should caught for stealing .This happened with me also .plz don't defame the pilot.
He can do by mistake but he should not have done it and be care full god save every body 🇵🇰
Did they check phone call from his wife, and did he become a grandfather. It can happen.
Very sad. Maybe due to overexcitement the pilot have definitely forgot to pay. Media is one who really blasts the reports. Plus point is that the pilot admitted his fault. Resignation is not the solution. I pray that he be taken back on job.
Brother this is Terrible Mistake unbelievable 🙏🙏🙏🙏 from Los Angeles California.
Welcome bro 🙏 Thank you for sharing your views 🙏
I really think this pilot is telling the truth. Any senior pilot will never steal a wallet, but how the duty-free anti theft electronic did not alert the pilot.
I too feel the phone call was so important and the good news distracted him from his present moment of purchasing a wallet, I guess it wasn’t intentional ❤
I agree, Thank you for your comment 🙏
I think it was the call that distracted him. This Mobil phones are a disaster
This may be possible. Some time distraction can lead to such events.
I have flown Air India and their service was very good they cared for my luggage on a long return connecting flight n flights food was good they were good
Honest mistake. Air India shouldn’t take this seriously. Should give him chance.
Agree
Felt like it was the genuine mistake, but he took it lightly when he said I will pay next time, he could pay immediately to avoid this issue.
I think it was a genuine mistake. If his intention was to steal, he would have hidden the wallet in the cabin and not his jacket. Authorities should do proper investigation.
That's why I believe, Thank you for sharing your views 🙏
He was used to politicians doing this when it was in govt hands…now it’s TATA reputation
मेरा भारत महान,
१०० में से ९९ बेईमान 😂😂😂😂😂
It is possible ! We tend to be forgetful !
His reasoning is not acceptable , he did the right thing to resign and apologize for stealing.
horrible Management by Air India ..
