Our chickens went to bed thinking it was night. There was a crow chilling beside us that looked like he was watching with us, stayed until it finished. Also we had a bunch of coyotes and dogs nearby howling and barking and then they all went quiet... It was cool but creepy. I wonder if they were reacting to people making noise or something. As soon as it ended birds started tweeting again the coyotes and dogs stopped, the chickens came back out and the cars on the streets started back up. Our own dog didn't seem to care :p and man did it get cold fast. Glad we bought some solar glasses for the occasion though

Really? We were in the 90-95% totality area so pretty darkish, and my chickens didnt even go into the enclosed area (they free range the backyard) literally was waiting for them to go to their coop or Atleast for the roosters to start crowing when the sun came back....nothing. My dog, a black lab, suddenly grew apprehensive. Usually if I am out in yard she is delighted but suddenly when totality hit she ran up onto covered porch and began scratching at the door begging to go inside. She would not leave porch, hesitantly peeking out occasionally. She remained glued to door till I let her in. Love Fort Worth Zoo. Went there for years raising my sons.

    I'm in central N.C.
When the eclipse had begun, I looked out my window and saw two squirrels in my backyard standing upright just looking toward the west (where the sun was).
They stayed, standing upright, for a good two minutes.
    If was curious to me.
It really made me think that they were sensing the decreasing sunlight.
They just stood there on their hind legs, looking up.
Of course, by the time I reached for my camera, they had disappeared.
But, it was hilarious to see.

Many news outlets covered the animal aspect of this eclipse...
Problem is, most of the outlets only " talked" about what to expect, and/or DESCRIBED the animals' reactions during the eclipse, BUT almost all of their videos so far - and this video is no different - didn't SHOW videos OF the animals' reactions at ALL...
...They either showed the animals before/after totality - but not DURING totality...
...or they focused on the HUMANS INSTEAD of the animals during totality.
This video didn't show one animal during the tiny 2 minute window of totality - it showed the humans watching the sky...
...but this video is SUPPOSED to be about how animals OTHER than humans, reacted.

My family was not talking because we know this is a day of mourning. It's a day when The moon and The Sun will connect to the Earth in privacy and we show sympathy in silence.

I've been paying attention to that every eclipse whether overhead or far. This time it was far in the Caribbean. I note natural wildness. Always notably the birds, dogs, insects, crickets, every being generally a lot quieter. Conclusion: Every living being knows. Not at the superficial level you ponder to take notes but at a deeper spiritual level beyond "knowledge".

Where I was it was overcast; 100% cloud coverage in every direction. But all the birds stated cawing like "Honey, GET YO ASS OVER HERE, NOW!"
What was interesting was they started that evening group huddle behavior 10 minutes _before_ the sky got visibly darker. Total cloud coverage, it was already a gloomy dark day; but something about them UVs must've triggered their night response way before us humans could notice any darkening.
