I saw Amazon tree boas on that list and it broke my heart because they're one of the easiest arboreal snakes to keep! They're super intelligent, not nearly as defensive as people think, and are so beautiful.
I kept a cotton mouth when I was a child until my father made me release him. Venomous snakes can be safely kept, and even handled, but it takes time training them. All snakes strike out of fear or food response. Some are more bitey than others, venomous snakes that lose their fear do not strike. I stick trained the cotton mouth until he calmed down and trusted me. There are people who handle king cobras with no issue, it takes a LOT of time training to get that trust. Most people do NOT have that patience to wait a year, or more before free handling a snake. Arboreal snakes can be trained with a scented piece of clothing, or a tennis ball with your scent, along with hook training. I also rub the hook really well when using it so it has my scent, and is warmed up. All in all I do advise against dangerous venomous snakes for most people, they just don't have the patience.
I know someone who handles a king Cobra for, I believe all of its life, and it will still attack. If you think snakes can be tamed, sorry to tell you but they can't. If they have the ability to bite, they can bite. It's a good thing your father made you release it because you're not mature enough to handle a snake if you can be that complacent. Yes, snakes can get used to people, not saying they can't. But one wrong move and they will have you for dinner, or strike out of fear. It doesn't matter how long you have known a snake, if you cause it to feel fear or threatened in any way, they will strike. You should listen to your own advice and not get anymore venomous or poisonous snakes.
@@wintermoon7003 Have you ever seen a venomous snake bite a cow in cold weather? They can, but they don't, they feel safe lying next to the cow for warmth. It's only a hobby for the dedicated, if the person you know has had a snake of any type for years, and it is still biting he is doing something wrong. Snakes do not have emotions like parrots, and dogs. Both can bite just for spite or jealousy even after years. Those are emotions that snakes just do not have. Snakes know that if they bite the wrong animal they may die, even if the bite is fatal. I have rescued snakes that got caught in netting, and fencing, or other tight spots, and once the snakes trusted me and knew no harm was coming to them they let me free them. I spent my summers on a dairy farm, and had even young a lot of experience with snakes. The cotton mouth was a rescue from chicken wire. The closest I came to dying was being mauled by a dog. I love dogs, but am more fearful of a dog I don't know than a snake.

Favourite morph of Bearded Dragon is rescued!😁 And you make the Chuckwalla face at some point every video? I definitely need more of that in my life. 😂❤
That is the correct answer! ❤ I have absolutely minimal experience with reptiles, but as the resident behaviorist at my shelter I ended up getting saddled with a gator who was raised in a meth van for awhile, since I'm the go-to for, uh, fractious animals in general. She was a Mississippi mud morph, as far as I know. 😂
There was a gorgeous dark red bearded dragon at my local animal shelter… I was soooo tempted to adopt him but the tank I wanted was $1k without any decor/substrate/lamps and I can’t afford that rn. I hope whoever rescued him gives him a great life
My jeweled lacerta is a blast! He’s about 1.5 years old now and finally starting to let me touch him. But he’s incredibly entertaining with his antics and insane feeding response! Also I really want a chuck!
I would love a chuckwalla or a jeweled lacerta - in New York there are introduced Italian Wall Lizards that are smaller relatives of Jeweled Lacertas and they look beautiful - I love seeing them when i visit the city - usually in the summer you see them in cemeteries

I have so much fun interacting with my snakes, especially my king cobras. There's just nothing more thrilling. However, you should ALWAYS take as many precautions as you can, and never get too comfortable.. or it could be the end of your life. Keep making great content! You're one of my new favorite TH-camr's I've discovered!
We wanted a chuckwalla so bad, but they're hard to find. We got a uromastyx instead, and she's amazing. I would still love to get one, though. Same. I'm limited to what I can put time into, so I don't want animals that take more work than a Crested Gecko, snake, or American Toad. I love the animals on the list and think they are really cool. If I had time and energy I would get some of them. I just can't responsibly do it.
@1faithchick7 exactly. I've kept a black and white tegu in the past, and would love a red tegu, but the biggest tank I currently have available is a 29 gallon. 😂
There's a really neat video out there of emerald tree Boa breeders who have a whole room set up to have the Boas hang out, outside of their enclosures. Some of what they talked about for boas in general really helped me interact a little better with my BRB. Stuff like it being better to try and handle the they are closer to their next feeding time instead of after the digestion period of their last meal, as they are more curious when more hungry so are more willing to explore/interact. Kind of different thinking than with the other species I currently keep.
@@misomie Okay I believe I found the interview done by the channel Animals at Home. Interview is named: An Ayahuasca vision called her to the Jungle to find snakes | Amy Benzi. I would absolutely love a Chuckwalla. It was actually my preference over my beardie (even though I love him and don't regret getting him) BUT they are now PROTECTED. This means they can not be shipped along state lines so I had to admit to myself I couldn't drive across the country to find a breeder not to mention getting it back alive. I think if you live in the Sourth West USA they are probably a lot more common but outside of that good luck.
I have an empty 48x24x24 enclosure in my office. Haven’t used it since my beardie passed about 15 years ago. I am now looking to build a bioactive enclosure for either a leopard gecko or a community of P. terribilis. I know the Leo will be more interactive but the thought of 8-10 mints really compels me. I’ve never kept dart frogs tho I do adore Leo’s. Any thoughts??
I'm currently almost half way to having an enclosure for a Brazilian Rainbow Boa. I'm starting with the enclosure and misting system, then I'm gonna get everything for inside the enclosure when I get my income taxes once I've filed them. After that it's just gonna be a matter of ordering my boa. It has taken a fair bit of saving up and preparing, but I can't wait till I've got everything prepared and saved up. They're such incredible animals, it's going to be well worth all the work it's going to take.
One reptile I would never keep is the Horned Lizard (AKA Horned Toads). Apparently, they only eat ants, which makes them impractical to keep in captivity. PS) Chuckwallas are fairly common in zoo collections. I've seen them housed with other desert lizards, desert box turtles and even quail.
Horned toads are awesome, I've come across a few keepers that have them. They also have several ant colonies they keep going too. Even with that, I'd pass on the challenge
I have a amazing bioactive enclosure. I was wanting to do dart frogs but didn't want to mess with fruit flies. Thanks for the info. I also have 2 bearded dragons. My favorite is my bright orange/red male I purchased from a local breeder, he is the color of a flaming hot Cheeto so we named him Mr. Cheeto.
All animals, reptiles and amphibians are amazing on so many levels. Just wish I had the money to get what I want and need . Love the content as always and I love seeing diamond such a cutie pie. See you again on Thursday Which is jerzday woo-hoo
"Mildly" venomous pit vipers might not kill you, but it really, really sucks. My buddy got bitten by a hog-nosed viper and was pretty unhappy for the rest of the trip (Costa Rica).
I wouldn't keep a mainland recti or burm...they just get way too big for me. Don't get me wrong I think both are gorgeous and amazing animals....but the size is just crazy.
They are not for me either, BUT I think it is ridiculous for FL to ban transporting them to Northern states where they can be kept as pets. If python hunters can get the bounty, and then sell the snakes to snake keepers up north, a lot more people would get into Everglades python hunting.
Thanks for the video and the advice at the end, WWR! On my way to upgrade from my leopard gecko to a boomslang! Can't wait to show my grandparents and family dogs!
I’ll never keep a bearded dragon… because my husband bears a grudge against them. A friend had one, and every time my husband touched it, it would poop on him without fail. So. Grudge.
don't ever get a sunbeam snake, they are beautiful and great to handle, but they are completely subterranean if you provide enough substrate (which you really should). so, you just have a tank of dirt, and they move through it so fast it's always a stressful experience for everyone involved to get them out. so, the only time you see them is when you replace the substrate, which you will need to do often because the humidity needs to be super high, and the snake will be pooping willy nilly in the 40+ gallons of dirt. I kept one for 2 or 3 years and had to do several rounds of antibiotics, even monthly substrate changes weren't enough to keep that environment from being a 40-gallon petri dish.
I love arboreal snakes, whenever I can get a snake I'm dead set on having an arboreal or semi-arboreal boa for my first snake. I think they are underappreciated in the hobby
I'm happy to see Jeweled Lacerta's on this list. I'm absolutely in love with mine, such intelligent creatures! Great display animals once they are comfortable in your home.
Three thoughts. 1. Since you often post amphibians in your top 5 reptile lists, annoying folks who are literalists by devoting 20% of your videos to non- reptiles, just change your titles to top 5 _______ herps. Problem solved. 2. Have kept dartfrogs and mantellas for decades. You often state fruitflies as the food of choice for smaller species. This makes me laugh any time it is espoused as a staple for smaller frogs. Allow me to share with you, pinhead crickets. Easy to keep, cheap, slightly bigger than fruitflies, and very few escapees, if ever. Plus they are easily dusted. Leucomelas and other smaller species like golfodulcean frogs love them. I only use fruitflies or springtails for tiny babies. Midsized to adult frogs are easily fed pinhead crickets. 3. Trouble animals are only trouble if a person hasn't done their homework and figured out what the animal needs, if it is safe to keep, and whether it can or is inclined to harm or k¡ll you when it reaches full adult size. There's no such thing as bad herps. There are bad choices and bad results. But that's it.
A reptile I'd never keep? Well.... Anaconda. Green Anaconda. I have small ass room with barely enough place for African House Snake, Ball Python and a free space that could possibly house something up to the size of big spider (no utricating hair, please, I don't wish to go around looking like a final version of the villain guy from "Slither" LOL) The rest of the house is for the cat... And she doesn't take "no" for an answer 😂 Plus, I have zero space for large ass waterpool and I don't want to abuse my pets... I could if I moved out into a one-store house with external patio with large-ass waterpool cornered from all the sides with additional internal heating on the "woliere"... And since I have no money for either... That's no for me... I don't abuse my pets, period 😂😂😂😂
I would never keep a Green Iguana again. They're just too big and unpredictable, I would also never keep a Nile Monitor, Water Monitor or Sulcata Tortoise because they also need a lot of space.
I wouldn't keep hot venomous snakes or birds. Amphibians like frogs are a "Maybe but probably not." I'm not that into bearded dragons myself or really most lizards (but tokay geckos are hilarious and I would keep one.) Basically: I like snakes.
10:28 The part that had me most attentive. 👀 Venomous snakes! ☠🐍 12:24 What reptiles would I never keep? 🤔 There is a fair bit, but things that immediately come to mind would be crocodiles, Komodo dragons, and marine reptiles. 🐊
Chuckwallas are by far my favorite lizard. It really sucks they’re so hard to find captive bred. I’ve missed out a couple times on morph market. Hopefully one day. I also love Jeweled Lacertas.
My fav bearded dragon USED TO BE Zeros until the one I got was Diagnosed with failure to thrive and my vet said it wasnt the first Zero thats shes seen like that due to being so inbred so I'll just stick with reds
I've got a bunch of jeweled lacertas in my backyard. They're called "sardão" for singular and "sardões" for plural. Some of them get big and feisty. But even the wild ones can eat off of your hand and they are really stunning with those yellow and blues. Here's a video of some dude feeding one bread (I didn't expect them to eat bread either): th-cam.com/video/Nz_9NKIypGA/w-d-xo.html
I'd never keep a venomous snake - and I'm talking about the kind you mean. I'd so keep a hognose or false water cobra (IF I had the space!). Nor would I keep any of the long-lived, like tortoises. I'm 62. A tortoise is going to outlive me. I have no one to leave it to after I'm gone. So, yeah, long-lifers are a no.
Falsies, best snake ever. Highly intelligent, interactive with their environment, usually pretty chill, and inpressive as hell. They do have pretty big space requirements mind. And like most reptiles can be overwelming when not handled often. They can be pretty big depending on what you define as a 'big' snake. My female is about 8.5 ft and my male is just under 8 ft. Still, the best snakes ive ever owned or worked with by far.
CB chuckwallas are starting to show up more now since they no longer can be taken out of arizona (not 100% sure about this but that is what I read once.) I'm attempting to breed common chuckwallas, and I think my female may be gravid.
You have become my "reptile guy", since the unfortunate passing of Brian B. I've been searching for someone to fill the huge void he left. Unfortunately Brian's son doesn't produce the same quantity of videos his father did. My family will be watching you
I can't be keeping lizards myself- or anything but snakes and some beetles, really. Pets who need daily feeding and aren't my dog are just not great for me. Snakes are suitably lower maintenance, where I can do all the proper things for them one day, then have a day or two where all I do is glance into their enclosures, and otherwise do nothing at all. I have unreliable health, but I can still provide my snakes everything they need and then some. The Chuckwalla impression there was ADORABLE btw. My fave bearded dragon morph is probably the darkest red ones. If I had that kind of a space, though, I'd put some sort of active clownish skinks in there, or a really vivid cornsnake, so guests could admire it.
Garter snakes. They are absolutely hilarious clowns. most of mine love to come out and play on my desk or on me. Mine are all florida blue's, with one granite coloured black neck garter. I cannot stress enough how wonderful of a pet snake a garter snake can be. I come home from work and check them, they will ALL be doing little scopes to watch me and will beg to come out and just chill in the room near me. My boy Koya likes to sit on the desk and do a scope and actively play with me doing funny staring contests, moving our heads together to music, playing ninja peek-a-boo (i cover my eyes and he will move closer , i say PEEKA BOO and he goes still as a rock. ) HE'S A SNAKE and does this and it's hilarious

Venomous keeper here. I still watch your channel and I have a bunch of hots lol.
I appreciate you!
I’ll never keep a bearded dragon… because my husband bears a grudge against them. A friend had one, and every time my husband touched it, it would poop on him without fail. So. Grudge.
hahhahahaha!
Try coming to the UK, it's 70% during the winter
lol it’s 90+% here all winter
don't ever get a sunbeam snake, they are beautiful and great to handle, but they are completely subterranean if you provide enough substrate (which you really should). so, you just have a tank of dirt, and they move through it so fast it's always a stressful experience for everyone involved to get them out. so, the only time you see them is when you replace the substrate, which you will need to do often because the humidity needs to be super high, and the snake will be pooping willy nilly in the 40+ gallons of dirt. I kept one for 2 or 3 years and had to do several rounds of antibiotics, even monthly substrate changes weren't enough to keep that environment from being a 40-gallon petri dish.
Absolutely
I feel like I should make a retaliation video on why turtles are so amazing (also, what shirt are you wearing? New merch??)
a shirt that will drop next month maybe ....
Nobody ever talks about green amievas
you forgot garter snakes there venomous as well
I love chuckwallas! I wish they were more popular and easy to find cb!❤ Love this video subject too!
I love arboreal snakes, whenever I can get a snake I'm dead set on having an arboreal or semi-arboreal boa for my first snake. I think they are underappreciated in the hobby
I love them too
Get a German giant bearded dragon
Wicked morph!
I'm happy to see Jeweled Lacerta's on this list. I'm absolutely in love with mine, such intelligent creatures! Great display animals once they are comfortable in your home.
Love these videos Adam, much love from Scotland 🇬🇧
Much love
Reptile is not suck when u really love them and have money to take care them properly.
For sure
Bad news bears IS the cutest saying of 2024
Hahahaha
I think jungle carpet python can be as pretty and are very arboreal. Still can be bitey but at handleable.
For sure!
A reptile I'd never keep?
Well....
Anaconda. Green Anaconda.
I have small ass room with barely enough place for African House Snake, Ball Python and a free space that could possibly house something up to the size of big spider (no utricating hair, please, I don't wish to go around looking like a final version of the villain guy from "Slither" LOL)
The rest of the house is for the cat... And she doesn't take "no" for an answer 😂
Plus, I have zero space for large ass waterpool and I don't want to abuse my pets...
I could if I moved out into a one-store house with external patio with large-ass waterpool cornered from all the sides with additional internal heating on the "woliere"...
And since I have no money for either...
That's no for me...
I don't abuse my pets, period 😂😂😂😂
Get something in leucistic!
The only thing putting me off darts is the noise, will I be able to sleep
Well, most are near silent and all of them sleep at night, so, yes
I would never keep a Green Iguana again. They're just too big and unpredictable, I would also never keep a Nile Monitor, Water Monitor or Sulcata Tortoise because they also need a lot of space.
love ur content
Thank you so much
I feel like the size of the adult Tegu is the whole appeal! I've never really gravitated towards small animals.
Day 4 of commenting until adam gets an emerald tree monitor
Hahahahaha one day maybe
Favorite bearded dragon is… elephant tree trunk snake!
Get a chuckwalla instead of a beardie for the 150gall tank instead!!!
If you can even find one
I wouldn't keep hot venomous snakes or birds. Amphibians like frogs are a "Maybe but probably not." I'm not that into bearded dragons myself or really most lizards (but tokay geckos are hilarious and I would keep one.) Basically: I like snakes.
10:28 The part that had me most attentive. 👀 Venomous snakes! ☠🐍
12:24 What reptiles would I never keep? 🤔 There is a fair bit, but things that immediately come to mind would be crocodiles, Komodo dragons, and marine reptiles. 🐊
I don’t see how chuckwallas could have any haters. They’re such interesting, cute animals. Definitely a dream species of mine.
Saw the thumbnail, was baited in for the rainbow boa content. The boa is a lie, Adam! 😋🌈🐍
I do have a rainbow boa!
@@WickensWickedReptiles the path is clear then. :P more Brb content please.
The Rattlesnake Conservancy gives venomous snake handling and keeping classes, just saying......
The emerald tree boa’s are soo amazing and are my favorite reptile since i was a child. I got sooo excited to see that you got two of those badboys 🔥
As for fave Beardie morph. I love the wild morph for the Eastern Bearded Dragon (Pogona barbata). Some might say that's boring, but I like them.
I really miss my bearded dragon.😢
I love mine
35 degrees In February? How? That’s like mid summer temps!
You are the best TH-cam ever have a super day have a great day have a nice day Wicked wickens reptile
You rock!
Personally I think the worst reptile is the Green Iguana.
They can be a lot
@@WickensWickedReptiles I already have an animal that has taken over my house and bosses me around and is plotting my demise: a cat
I'm happy Scrubs didn't make the list. I got a captive bred barneck and he's been a dream. 100% my big snake of choice now.
I've got a bunch of jeweled lacertas in my backyard. They're called "sardão" for singular and "sardões" for plural. Some of them get big and feisty. But even the wild ones can eat off of your hand and they are really stunning with those yellow and blues. Here's a video of some dude feeding one bread (I didn't expect them to eat bread either):

Equally beautiful but potentially more handleable (not sure because I don’t keep one) Red-tailed green ratsnake? They’re soooo beautiful 😍
I think your newly empty enclosure would be best served by keeping a group of Garter Snakes or, you said it yourself, a Chuckwalla.
