- Pilot's first UK Hit From their first album, 1974
Lyrics:
Any time you like to get next to me
any time,
I could easily make you mine, any time,
if you ever end needing a loving care
I'll be there
this is something we can share
any time
(chorus)
Just a smile, just a lonely smile
lets me know where I belong
don't you know you're turning me on
turn me on,
Finding out what it's all about
reaching up to the sky
don't you know you're getting me high
oh too high.
Everybody likes to have someone else
to get by
there's nobody else but you,
you and I
any time you like to get next to me,
any time
nobody can deny, we'll get by
(chorus)
Just a smile just a lonely smile
lets me know where I belong
don't you know you're turning me on
turn me on
Finding out what it's all about
reaching up to the sky
don't you know you're getting me high
oh too high.
(chorus)
Just a smile just a lonely smile
lets me know where I belong
don't you know you're turning me on
turn me on
Finding out what it's all about
reaching up to the sky
don't you know you're getting me high
oh too high.
(chorus)
Just a smile just a lonely smile
lets me know where I belong
don't you know you're turning me on
turn me on..................... - เพลง
VERY happy memories of this and many other songs from that era.....I love music, pity that youngsters have no clue of the pleasure it can bring...
May 24, and still this song sounds so fresh. So many happy memories of my teenage years. Thank you guys. ❤️❤️❤️🏴🏴🏴
August '23 and still loving this brilliant tune by Pilot what a great band of the '70's
Every now and then a song comes along and gives you a hug - this is one of those songs
Love it when his Scottish accent creeps out when singing ‘lonely’
I would go back to these times in a heartbeat, when the world was sane.
My thoughts entirely
same here...
I adore this song. Brings a little tear to the corner of the eye.
In a conversation with David Paton I told him it was the ideal 3min single in those days. We were into Led Zeppelin, Mott the Hoople and Pink Floyd but it got to us!
Possibly the best songsmith to come out of Edinburgh. I loved this song when i was at School.
I recall this song by Pilot very well back in the 1970s & of course their mega hit "January" from early 1975, too. Brings back many happy memories, indeed.
What a voice he had. Effortlessly high, stylish and with a poignant tone.
When I look back on that era, I am overcome by nostalgia and a wistful sense of loss. I know it wasn’t all that great at the time, but I was young and still had some optimism.
Love the slight Edinburgh tone in his voice..I used to have that lilt too.but couldn't sing like David ..Great song even in2022
Just a beautiful song ,sing by a beautiful person.this song reduces me to tears ,I don't know why ,but heh there you go.
Me too
Oh my God... I love this song... so much... Takes me back to a time when I was young and happy - and good-looking! Could you book me on the next trip back in time - Please! 📡
A great song huh? 😊
I asked my late sister what her favourite record was and she said this one.
Can I go also??
What a great voice
July 75, ahhhhh
Can't believe this song didnt get in top 30,should have been top 10
I'd go far as 1.
I've been enjoying this song for the last 45 years. Just a while. Just a little smile..
The simplicity of this song with its uplifting chorus makes it their finest.
I just wonder if you own all of their albums? I agree with the first part of what you say, but it is not their finest for me. Several tracks on Morin Heights and Two's a Crowd beat this.
@@grimupnorthi have all their albums😊😊😊 and i enjoy a lot of their songs.
Even songs David Paton have made the last years, there are many very beautiful ones!! They didn't become hits worldwide but you recognize his style and feel his love for music true his songs.
Y'know, I think this may be my favourite pop record. A beautiful melodic tune and a fantastic arrangement and production. It's so damned good.
Classic from the best era of music 1975
My favourite Pilot Song, I could listen to this all day long
Mee too, it is perfect.
@@paulsimpson2060 He is gorgeous too.
wot a song wud crawl on my hands and knees to get back to the 1970s
me too :((
So would I.
Hermosa canción. Recién casados con mi amada la escuchábamos. Nostalgia esto era música.
David’s eyes, smile, and beautiful voice still turn me on! 😍😘
Oh the memories from 1974 I just love this song
Pilot and this song did have a certain charm...
Just a smile? Killing me! Pretty guy!!!! (heart's melting) ROMY all yours!💓
Oh how i miss the 70s,what a decade for music..!!!...65 years old grown man,and this song just brings me to tears...fantastic..!!!
You're not alone. I'm 68 now and I remember recording this off the radio and playing it over and over. It's just perfect and it can easily bring me to tears of pure joy. David Paton (bassist/singer) wrote the song and it was produced by Alan Parsons. David went on to join Parsons' 'Project' which produced some fantastic songs. Go careful.
Even if you are 62 years old here it has the same effect beautiful song.
I asked my late sister what her favourite song was and this was it.
Takes me back to a time
I first heard this song when it came out then again sometime during the early 2000s, I'd forgotten all about it but as soon as I heard it, it immediately
came back to me, sad those happy days are gone forever.
Great song for great times gone...hit from Radio Luxembourg...do you still remember?
So do remember 208 radio Luxembourg 😍
@@sharonhill349 we really heard things on another level.... thanks for sharing💐th-cam.com/video/1hulUQv7zGE/w-d-xo.html

This song randomly popped into my head just now. Thank goodness for TH-cam - thank you!
Great song, still play their songs today! Timeless.
Dedicated to my beautiful Linda. I miss you bub. x
Magic is the best.
Another great pilot song😍🆗
I can easily make you "mine" anytime , a great Valintines song for your ms.😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤ great song , great melody 🎶🎶🎶
Always liked their music
PiLot had a knack for a catchy hook with great lyrics - testimony to the musicianship and song writing of lead David Paton.
'Just a Smile' (UK #31), isn't really considered a hit but is every bit as good as their UK #1, 'January'.
part of my teenager life!!, ja
Same as Lisa linger.this and here I go again by archie bell and the drells.i never tire of listening to
David such a lovely voice
great voice and wot a band
Second only to Alan Williams! 😍
Had forgotten about this song until it popped up on a 70s collection I was listening to the other day, such an upbeat and joyful tune.
Love this song! ❤️❤️❤️
David is a cousin of Derek and Alan Longmuir of Bay City Rollers fame . Now Alan's son Jordan is making a record in Los Angeles as of Oct 16 2023 . Talent runs in the family it seems
Can't stop playing this song
My first crush at 13 was Billy Lyall. How gorgeous he was. Still miss him. ❤💔
Yes, he was a very beautiful guy. It’s a shame he passed away at the young age of 36. But at least we can see him in videos and see his beautiful face
@Debbie Scott well that's observant..lmao!! Not to mention; how much OLDER than me was he?? My opionion still stands; he was gorgeous & melted my 13 yo heart, just like the millions of women who crushed on Rock Hudson , Freddie Mercury & the thousands of others who were either gay or married.
He died from AIDS if I remember correctly
It's strange how the 1970s was already doing the 1980s.
A french duo and band called Air which is still together I believe borrowed a lot or was inspired by 1970s pop sound; especially Pilot.
Simply brilliant 👏🏿👏🏿
The Grimleys 😊
Perfection.
🎱 HI AMIGO DAVID 🎶🎤🎸🙏🏴💙🔺️
Sólo una sonrisa... que gran verdad !!
The best band to come out from Edinburgh.
--yes-- but I was a very, very big fan of the "Bay City Rollers" from Scotland too ---- I bought all the BCR vinyl records when I was young --- now I am 63 years old -- how old are you, appreciated "paulwilson" and are you scottish ? ---
@@antoniodipalma492 I'm just turned 64 last week and I'm Scottish. Tam Paton managed both bands but he focused mainly on the BCR but in my view Pilot were better, another good Edinburgh band was The Head boys they had a great song called The shape of things to come defo worth a listen
---hallo Paul again --no---the "Bay City Rollers" had so many more wonderful hits than "PILOT" --- I have all the antigue german BRAVOS magazines in "best condition" from the 70ies with BCR --- where are the still living original members of BCR living in Scotland now ? ---Do you know it maybe,Paul ? ---me and my mother "Elfriede" want to make a nice hotel holiday in Edinburgh-Scotland-we love the fresh air of Scotland--------my mother Elfriede(88 years old) is BCR fan too ---
@@antoniodipalma492 Only because Paton put all his attention into the BCR. Pilot just weren't a Girly Band like the BCR who weren't at first either. As far as I know Stuart Wood (Woody) is the only surviving original member.
David patin. Just a smile
Hermosa canción..!
Que cosita más divina él y su música, amoooo 🌹❤
I thought MAGIC (November 74) was the first hit, then JANUARY (February 75), then this in July 75 (only got to 38).
MY FRIEND DAVID PATON, FANTASTIC
SONG 🎯🎼🎤🎸🎹🥁🎓👑🍷💜🖤💙🏴🇨🇱💚🔺️
Nice memories back in the 70's❤
I could listen to this forever in a land of bliss 😍😍😍
🎱HI PILOT PROYECT. TELL ME SOMETHING DAVID PATON WRITE NOW OK ...
YEAH YEAH YEAH, JUST SMILE ONLY SMILE FOR EVER AND EVER 🎤🎸🏴🔝🇨🇱🔺️
So catchy
In America, they are considered one hit wonders which to me is so inaccurate. This beautiful tune and the great January, are two songs that should have been big hits in the US, but incredibly were not.
January was a Hot 100 hit (98 I think), which is not bad in a Country of your size.
@@grimupnorth unfortunately in the US, if the record doesn’t make the Top 40 playlists, then more likely then not the record is not getting enough airplay to reach the masses. Mind you, this is relative to the 70’s pop radio landscape. Thanks for the info though.
Sad for America that their business was mismanaged and withheld the music!
great song from another time, sounds abit like breakaway by the beachboys
prob there best song...better than january
just
Ez nekem meg DVD-en is meg van. Meg ennel is jobb a kepminosege.
' Magic ' was brilliant, but this and ' Call me round ' were far better.
I love both!
😍❤
They were not a one hit wonder. They were a 3 hit wonder
Indeed - but actually more than three- wonderful all. January, Magic, Call me round, Just a smile ++
Better than the bay city rollers
@@garycheyne199 That's definitely what you'd call 'damning with faint praise'!
Only music......
It's too bad this song didn't score higher on Billboard. #90, Fall '75.
Highly gifted band. What became of them?
still going
I was a lad in the 60s. Great music and cars same with the 70s. To my parents the 50s represented the same. I honestly can’t see today’s generation looking back on today’s music the same way. As for the cars , they all look the same. Electronic overpriced garbage.
I never read the real story behind Lyall leaving.
Where HD??? ITS VHS VIDEO😅😅😅😅
