    I have a losi tenacity, arrma senton and traxxas slash and I can't keep the senton straight. I've had to really fiddle with steering rates etc to get it dialed in but I think if I had only the Senton, I would get used to it. The Losi is the best for racing of the three and you can tell it's for racing it's geometry just works (imo) but more expensive. The Senton and Slash are somewhat bashable. The Senton just wants to bash, so it needs a bit of taming. All three are great trucks with the Losi being more of a one trick pony designed for racing and you can tell. I don't think I could point to any one of them and say it's the best because it really just depends on what you want. I love my Senton and I love the Tenacity I guess the Slash would be the odd one out. But it's a great truck.

    Short course trucks can be super cool. I always enjoy your observations. I am more of a crawler guy but my dog is all about hooning. We argue. He says Baja, I respond Dakar. We settled on King of The Hammers as a proving ground. But then Rango (the dog) said no (grrr) to 1/10 scale. You see, he himself has a 12.3" (313mm) wheelbase. Not to mention a limited budget. So we "went looking" In Chenghai district Shantou city Guangdong, China. Rango told me to forget everything I knew about intellectual property. "A clone with good DNA is golden" he whined, "and,1/12th scale I can live with". We took a left into a long passageway that glowed in a ghostly industrial green. We joined the queue and waited with an amazing array of characters. At the blue window I was given two flimsy boxes for $300 and shooed away towards the exit. Rango was spot on. The cars are quite good not brilliant. Good DNA. Still, mongrel underdogs in comparison to the Big Dogs. Alpha dogs being the Losi Baja Rey and Rock Rey. 1/10 scale is too big for us so I am happy to have found a 1/12 scale that works as a rock racer and as a trophy/baja style truck. Rango loves them both. We love the big dogs too, just from a distance. Keep up the good work!

Both were preventable. I'd say it's been an absolute tank so far, well exceeding my expectations for durability to an astonishing level.

    It’s funny you made this video I’ve been thinking about a short course truck & I truly believe everyone should have at least one fast RC even the hard core crawler fans. All my RC’s have been crawlers till I purchased the Windigo. After adding my mods & extending the wheel base so it’s more stable it’s just a blast to take out. I can tell you this these fast RC’s are getting broken all the time no matter what brand or model. It just goes with that speed. I was out with the Windigo & I was telling myself yep I think I have it tuned up & ready to just go out & have fun. Then my first thought was you just jinxed yourself. We’ll need I say more. I was moving along at a good clip & one tire’s hit a log on the ground & snapped off the wheel & broke the axle. It was my fault 100%. But that old saying about RC’s “ Use break repair use break repair “over & over is so true. But as I stated everyone should have at least one fast RC. I take it with me crawl & then break it out & I have a permanent smile on my face the whole time. So much fun. I’m curious how the Redcat short track would do in comparison to the Traxxis & Arma. I’m just starting to take notice of the short track RC’s so I don’t know that much about them. It’s just a matter of time before one arrives at my doorstep. Nice to see you put it through its paces for us to see & judge for ourselves. Great looking truck for sure.👍

      @@RCTNT The Blitz was discontinued years ago. There are still parts out there for it though. I haven't needed them because it's so well made and robust. My main basher though is the Team Associated Rival MT10. Unlike the Arrma or Traxxas offerings it has a lot of metal parts and a center diff which is nice to see on a 1/10 vehicle.

    • @RCTNT

    Variety is the spice of life, so I feel it's great to have this for a change of pace. I already noted this and wass super welcome with the smaller RGT Crawler a couple of weeks back!
    I've always look intrigued into the "basher" type of rigs. Particularly, Losi's Super Baja Rey and their Monster Truck, LMT10. Those maybe need quite a huge track (Super Baja Rey) or bigger jumps (LMT10) to run them properly and be able to enjoy them at their best, but still, I would love to hear your take on those.
    This Arrma was a nice surprise, though! About your comment on sway ("anti-roll") bars, my take is to always start with a front one, never with a rear one. Your lateral spring rate tuning should always start with the front and only, -whether necessary, as not always the case-, fine tune with a rear one. Just my 0.02$!
    Thanks for the insight into an unknown (for now...) side of RC for me!!

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I instantly committed your opinion to memory on the anti roll bar config, thank you. I have limited experience with them!

    • @YoShImUrA53

      @@RCTNT haha, don't take me too seriously, though, for instance, if you remember a certain Gordon Murray (designer of the McLaren F1 and more recently, his own T50), he particularly hates rear sway bars in general... I suppose it's all a matter of personal preferences and styles, as I have particularly changed - IMO for the better handling- in both my AE86 and AW11 for track and road usage, respectively.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YoShImUrA53 fair enough. My experience is only with anti sway bars on the slash and Stampede. I've had good success with front and rear in particular, working together to categorically make the cars much more stable on the track. Like, hugely more! But that's about it!

    • @YoShImUrA53
      @YoShImUrA53 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RCTNT The only RC I've had sway bars on so far is the Tamiya XV01 (rally) chassis. So I'm no expert, by any means!
      In my vey limited experience, I learnt the most important part of sway bars proper function starts with a proper install. It's more delicate than most would think, and not all softer sway bars are as useless as some lead themselves to believe, to which I refer again to my proper install comment.
      Also, you did mention a great tip on this video about trying to be consistent. That'd be the first key for me for proper stepping stone for understanding setup changes, which could naturally lead into proper hotlapping.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’m a little late to the party but I just picked up one of these to give short course a go. I’ve only ran it on a track twice now but it’s super hard to keep this thing straight and coming out of a turn sucks cause either the steering linkage or the servo where it hits point in the turning where it speeds up super fast causing over steer, real bad. However I’m still learning how to drive it myself. I’m a crawler guy, this is my only speed vehicle so takes time on the wheel.

    • @RCTNT

      With practice you'll get better. But the skittish nature of this car in corners is probably its weakest point. They're otherwise very durable cars. A small gyro will also be helpful, depending on what you want from the car. I am a fan of this one: amzn.to/3YbjRPG

Why? Racing heritage and design in mind for this vehicle, while Arrma make (excellent) bashers, not racers.
      But really, find someone who has reviewed both with an eye for racing. I may get to this in the next few months but I've not had an SC10 yet so can't comment with first hand knowledge. Good luck with the decision!

      I don't think I ever blew a transmission, even on 4S brushless power. Your gear mesh may be too loose if you've done it twice.
      Some people use paper when they're setting it but I tend to just snug it right up then move it out the tiniest bit so there's just a hint of movement when you rock the spur gear back and forth.
      My Stampede had the slipper and diff inners from the X01. If it's helpful, this is my thread for the Stampede from a decade ago. Still full of relevant stuff!

    I have a modded 1/10 Slash, and just got a modded Senton Mega, that the fella installed a Spectrum 4s system in. To me, there's no comparison. The Senton is otherwise stock, and IMO the suspension is far superior to the Slash. I also have a Mojave 6s, and the little Senton is as smooth and silky and the monster Mojave. • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I reckon it can be made more controllable. It doesn't have to be like this - a middle diff would help keep the front wheels down, as would sway bars, but the simple band-aid solution would be a cheap little gyro on the steering channel with maybe 20% correction setting. I might have a play with that to see if it's more fun or not.

    How is your verdict? Slash or santon

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's taken a while to get to the follow up video of this but I'm hoping to make it soon. We'll put a Slash against the Senton and rate it for fun, reliability, performance, etc.
      The Senton is a fine choice and there's a reason the Slash sells so well. They're both good basic vehicles with room for upgrades and both can take a pounding.
      I think the Slash may be a little more durable out of the box with its drive shaft protection and better axle and wheel coupling, but the value for money is better with the Senton. The Senton could use a gyro for traction control for stability, which some of the nicer Slash models come with already, but that's a $20 addition if you think it's needed.
      So, if I was buying, I'd be looking at whichever of the two I could get in brushless 4x4 for less and then buy when it's on sale. You'll be happy with either.

    • @demofilm
      @demofilm 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @RCTNT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@demofilm thanks and welcome. I won't have this video up within the next week. I have much I'm already working on first and will need to schedule that video in.
      You may need to look around for other opinions if you're buying soon and are undecided. I'm confident you'll be happy with either vehicle. They're similar in performance and are both tough. I like the Arrma brushless system better than Traxxas' electronics, having had both.
      My personal choice would be the Senton at this stage, but it's close. If you can get a brushless 4x4 slash for a better price than the Senton 3s BLX, go for it.
      Lastly, if you're planning on running 2s rather than 3s lipos, if you buy the brushless version of either of these, it's possible you'll get by for even a couple of years without needing upgrades or any big repairs. I speak from experience with a stock Stampede VXL here that endured many hours of bashing with only sway bars installed as an after market accessory. On 2s it was nearly unbreakable, apart from the body, which slowly deteriorated with crashes. Another Stampede here had a bunch of money sunk into it and while it was awesome and quick, I did break stuff. Here's my thread (I'm cragv on forums and such) - www.ausrc.com/threads/dedicated-traxxas-stampede-4x4-vxl-thread-mods-breakages-upgrades-discussion.32757/
