  • On July 17, I began an attempted thru-hike (with a few detours) of the Colorado Trail. I’m heading southbound from Denver to Durango.
This is Episode 9 in the series in which I hike from Lake City to Silverton, CO. The Colorado Trail segments included in this video are Segment 22 (Spring Creek Pass Trailhead to Carson Saddle); Segment 23 (Carson Saddle to Stony Pass Trailhead); and Segment 24 (Stony Pass Trailhead to Molas Pass).
Total trip days in this video: Day 26 to Day 29.
This video includes the first part (and the most scenic?) of the San Juan Mountains. The San Juans continue in the next video, CT #10.
Liz is making videos too. At TH-cam: “Liz Kidder”

Aren't the San Juans so rugged, remote and just gorgeous!!!! ❤❤❤ Brings back the memories from my 2021 thruhike. 😊
Also I'm from the middle of Missouri!

Excellent as always! I was a little sad to see you part ways with Joel and Taco! They seemed like great trail buddies. I’m going to be bummed when this hike is over. I love watching Liz’s and your videos!

Dealing with that kind of cold, my joints would not work, but with the rain too, that would be the deal breaker for me. So glad you could do it! Bye to Joel and Taco!😢

Been on that road, but not hiking, I was in the Durango area for a couple of weeks in 2017, before crazy broke loose in the world. Went up to Silverton and Ouray before cutting through the mountains over towards the east of Colorado and heading home to Florida. It is a really beautiful range of Mountains and they do the Ice festivals there near Ouray in the winter, they can keep that stuff, LOL. Mountains right in town go straight up, ice? Nope

Another memorable section of the CT. The spot where you set up for the evening at about 16:25 is the same spot my 2008 CTF crew set up camp for a few days of trail work. The segment starting at about 19:11 is a section I worked in 2006 with the CTF. Enjoyed seeing all that scenery between Lake City and Stony Pass again after all these years.

This has to be, by far, my favorite section. The San Juans are gorgeous. I don't believe that I have seen anything quite like it in the US before. On a side note, I have taken that train you were talking about. I was wondering how the water carries have been going through the mountains? Thank you for all your hard work you have been putting in to share your trip with all of us. I saw in Liz's video that you were editing while hiking, like a boss. Take care and God bless Evan.

The water was pretty easy to find. The snow is still melting. Lots of snow earlier this year.

Love your videos, beautiful scenery, very courageous /dangerous Joel taking taco out on the trail not knowing what to expect up ahead bad enough just doing it by yourself specially, with the snow, terrain ,rocks hills, but he’s doing it.
What a great group you have together .jay RI

That was courageous. Every blowdown (for example) was another challenge for the horse

Another great video, Evan. It's impressive that you can do all that daily life on the trail requires AND edit top-notch videos.
I imagine you'll soon be en route to TN, a joyful reunion with Andrea, and a belated birthday celebration. I'm sure you'll be eager to see your new grandson, as well!
I'm going to miss your videos after you and Liz reach Durango. Thanks so much for sharing!

You do some of your best work in freezing cold, in the middle of the night. For a comment though, I bet you would benefit from a nice new tarp ! You’ve def gotten your money out of your AT one!

Thanks for the video the views were unreal. I know you had some cold wet weather which was not too good. Like I said before those views were killer. I was out in there last year.. If I get out there this year. I am definitely gonna take a little hike. Plus maybe take a train ride.

Great videos as always. How do the sandals work in rainy freezing weather? Or did I miss that you switched to something else for your feet?

    • @EvansBackpackingVideos
      @EvansBackpackingVideos  ปีที่แล้ว +1

In rain I wear socks. It can get pretty cold because with sandals your toes are engaged and your feet stay warm

I rode the Durango to Silverton steam train. I stops for hikers that stick out their thumb.
